I just switched over to Ubuntu this week due to problems with my previous OS. I have an M-audio Keystation 88es that I was using with Live 8.1.1 on Windows XP, but when I tried to install Live on the new OS I couldn't. Is there an Ubuntu compatible software/drivers that will allow me to manage/play my midi keyboard? I've tried a few programs but with no luck so far

I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
my problem is regarding .asx live streams. Up till 2-3 weeks ago I was able to listen to [URL] perfectly well with Totem under Ubuntu 9.10.
Since then whenever I want to start the stream, Totem darkens and nothing happens. I've tried Mplayer and VLC as well but neither of them work (but that's not news because they didn't work when Totem did either).
I had a look at the recent package updates in Synaptic to see if any audio-related ones had been changed and I have downgraded libaudiofile0 (to version 0.2.6-7ubuntu2) and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (to version 0.10.14-4ubuntu1). The problem still remained, so I updated them again.
The radio chanel works perfectly under Windows, and other .asx streams (for example [URL]) are working fine with Totem in Ubuntu.
Does anyone know of a program that can create effects like reverb/echo during a live performance? I like Audacity, but it seems you can only do this kind of stuff to audio that has already been recorded, not while you are performing it live.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been successfully using Elluminate Live online meeting space (Java-based) on previous releases of Ubuntu.By upgrading to Maverick 10.10., all audio features of that application became dysfunctional. Obviously, the Java application that is used to connect to Elluminate Live doesn't recognize audio devices (audio setup wizard of the same application doesn't list any devices).Contacting Elluminate's support didn't help because accoring to them Ubuntu 10.10 is not a supported distro for Elluminate.

i got 2 live cds with 5 distros on each. i decided to test the distros on my macbook but I couldn't boot from the Live CD using reboot and holding down "c", so I selected the Live CD as my startup disk. so i experimented with fedora, tested mint, and played with pradus.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI actually pretty much abandoned Ubuntu a few weeks back after several weeks of not getting a couple things working properly.One of the big problems is I couldn't get my line-in audio jack working to save my life (despite working flawlessly in Windows on the same machine).I have posted about this numerous times and had no luck despite many of you good people attempting to assist.Tonight, I put a live CD of Linux Mint in my machine and noticed a few of the little problems I have with Ubuntu seemed to be "fixed" with Linux Mint.
That's when it hit me that perhaps the big difference is 32 vs. 64 bit? My Ubuntu is 64 bit but the Linux Mint I tested is 32. Does anybody think that my audio problem could be as simple as getting away from Ubuntu 64 bit?Also, can anybody tell me if there is a Terminal Services Client available for Mint? I'm sure there is but it didn't seem to be in the default install..
i installed my desktop environment from synaptic manager! so when i restarted my computer i couldn't log into the desktop environment. How can i recover from this? Also,how can i access my home folder from a live cd?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed fedora12 from the Live CD couldn't get my mobile broadband to work on the Live CD, thought I would go ahead and install anyway and hoped for more success from the installation.
But nothing seems to work. I have tried just plugging it in and waiting for it to be registered, I have tried various manual set ups including enabling point to point encryption in the VPN manager and nothing seems to work at all.
The device is a Huawei K3520 USB modem.
Am I just doing something really stupid or is there some obscure method to get this working.
This is the only internet connection which i have available at the moment so anything I download will have to be done through Windows and copied across, i.e. I can't use YUM.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an older machine for the sole purpose of using it to run XBMC. Everything was fine until I plugged in some speakers and began having issues. The sound, system wide, is not working. It is onboard sound AC97 (rev 60). I have done some reading on the Internet but have yet to have any success fixing this issue. Not that it should matter, but the speakers are Logitech G51. Below is the output that, if I understand correct, shows the audio device is recognized.

I downloaded the file from Realtek's website. It says it's for Linux/Unix so I assume it's also compatible to Ubuntu. I attempted to install and even made a video about it here:[URL]... I understand most it, but I don't know what they mean by "patch" I have searched the entire folder for patch but nothing returned in the results. Maybe I have to download the correct file from somewhere else? I tried searching for it, but I have no luck finding it. Just got a brand new XPS 15 in the mail the other day. Under Windows 7, everything appears to work well enough. Once I installed Ubuntu though, the audio stopped working.
After a quick Google session, I saw that a few other people have had the same problem, but no one seems to have a solution. Maybe I'll get lucky.
What makes this extra upsetting is that I sprung for the high quality JBL speakers with the built-in subwoofer.

Dell 64 bit laptop with no hard drive, I'm running 10.04.2 from a 4 gb flash drive in persistence mode (Linux Live USB), and I'm trying to get ..... to work. I tried to run the XBMC live disc but could not fully boot. Each time I could only get to a command prompt after the XBMC splash screen with spinning circle. So I thought, "Maybe because my computer is sort of old (Pentium 4, 2.26 Ghz, 512 RAM) it doesn't like the XBMC Live disc. It will probably work if I install to the HDD." I installed it only to get the same result, XBMC splash screen then loading of command prompt. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is the computer compatible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.

Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.

I am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly.When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.

I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.

I installed today xubuntu on my new Asus eeePC 1015B I have only one mayor issue left. Could not get the HD playback wokring right now. in the 1015B there is a ATI HD6250 build in I installed the properitay driver 11.7 Catalyst. When playing a Video my CPU goes to 100 so I guess the hardware acceleration does not work..
