View 5 RepliesI need a website that can give me information on a weird hardware hack I want to do.
I have tried searching google and the terminology I use does not give me the information I want.
I have a Canon PowerShot A720. It does not work as a webcam. Many years ago I had a Sony that if you left the memory stick out, it would stream video
straight through to the USB cable and then to the computer. The Canon will not do that.
I would like to trick the Canon into thinking that a memory card was in place. I want to build a USB cable that has the male memory card connection on one end that I can plug into the camera and a USB connection to my computer on the other.
I have a Canon Powershot SD1400IS camera and I didn't realize that they don't support Linux. I run Debian and my old camera, a fuji FinepixA210 at least shows up as a removable volume. I double click and I can get to my pics and download them without any trouble. I picked up my new camera from airmiles and never thought to check if they supported Linux. Maybe a card reader would be the answer, but I'd rather not have that expense, if there is another way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a Canon EOS 550D and would like to make it work in digiKam. Although it is in the list of the supported camera, when I want to import photos from my camera I get stuck because apparently it is not recognized correctly (the import starts, but a message saying "failed to connect to the camera appears".The camera works fine with other softwares like F-Spot and I can browse into it using nautilus.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently got the printer part working by downloading from canon the correct rpm also in doing this I got the scanner driver. My computer tells me it is installed but I see no program to connect with my scanner. There is nothing in xsane or simple scan to allow me access to the scanner.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to know if there are native Linux utilities that work like the eos utility of canon that allow to import immediately after each shot the photo on the laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a Ubuntu newbie (installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS last week) with a camera problem. My Canon SD300 won't automount when I attach it by usb cable. It is visible to F-Spot and I can import pictures, it just doesn't automount. I saw other posts where no usb automounts were occurring. Not my problem. Memory sticks and external hard drives automount just fine. Only the camera is a problem child.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso i'm having an issue when I'm plugging in my Canon 450D. I plug it in, the red activity light blinks and "Busy" is displayed on the LCD screen, but after about 30 seconds, it disappears, and all the while, it doesn't get mounted by Nautilus. I've checked Nautilus' media preferences, and verified this behaviour when set to "Auto mount" or "Ask me what to do". I assumed that it just meant that maybe it wasn't being detected by my laptop, but if I open Shotwell, it appears in the device pane to the left, but again, only for 30 seconds. Here's a shot of my message log:
Quote:
Apr 9 20:20:12 wegonix kernel: [ 4883.781092] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
Apr 9 20:20:41 wegonix kernel: [ 4912.775528] usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 11
As you can see, my system sees it, but no application - other than Shotwell - sees this and i guess it consequently times out. I've yet to see whether any other USB drive does this, and i'll try my iphone in a bit. This used to work about 2 weeks ago...
I'm currently running 10:04 and I'm looking for some sort of program to read my Canon DVD Camera to get the videos off the DVD's. Even in MS Windows I haven't been able to use it since I lost the included software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get some photos off a Canon Powershot SX110IS that uses an SD card (right now there is a Gigaware 4GB one in it) but this computer does not have an SD card input, so I am trying to mount the device through USB. This has worked with a handful of other cameras I've used in the past.
When I connect the camera to the computer and power it on, I get
usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 7
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3192
usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-5: Product: Canon Digital Camera
usb 1-5: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
usb 1-5: SerialNumber: DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28
So the kernel is at least aware of it. I tried letting thunar mount it, but it complains
thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with
id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3192_DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28.
I also tried letting dolphin automount it (yuck), but didn't get any messages about it. I checked the fdisk output and there was no ~4GB device, so I'm not sure that I can mount it manually.

I'm trying to use Kino in Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat with a Canon ZR45MC Digital Video Camcorder. Kino is capturing the video, but not the audio.I have it connected by a DV Firewire. I've used it with Windows Movie Maker that way, and it worked fine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedCanon cameras used to come with a piece of software called remote capture for Windows and MacOS.
You plug in the camera via USB, and then the camera display is on your monitor. From there you can do everything your camera does, like taking pictures of video. Does anyone know if there is linux equivalent software that can do this?
I have found this software, but new cameras aren't supported.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make the switch from windows to ubuntu. But my sound is a problem in ubuntu. I have an external DAC (nuforce Icond HDP [URL]) but when using it as a USB DAC I get crackling noise (it's mostly minor crackling but now and then the sound is completely 'scrambled'). I used this in windows7 without problem. So then I thought I could use my spdif optical out to connect to my DAC instead of USB. But then I don't get any sound. I've been searching for a solution the past 2 days but no luck. Analog out is no option, quality is really bad.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running 10.04 and have installed Vuze. I went thru the speed test which reported back my correct internet speeds. However, when I did a search, it would just sit there forever and do nothing. I ran the NAT test and it had issues. I checked the port which was 28618, and added that as an exception to the firewall. Then the NAT test says everything is okay. But when I start Vuze again, I have NAT problems again. Anyone know what I need to do ? I read something about port forwarding, but don't have a clue what to do. Is Vuze a good program ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot print with my Canon MX860. I have downloaded the proper drivers from the Canon Europe website and forced the arch to x64 as described on many sites. When I try to print a test page I get the error that "Idle - /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed". I have checked in lib64 and pstocanonij was there as well. If I change the URI from USB to CNIJUSB then I get the error that "cnijusb has failed". It may be possible to get this working as in another forum someone claims to be successful. I am able to use the scanner with the sane-backends package, so that is not a problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 9.10 last week and it is my ambition to completely switch to this platform at some point. However, I am experiencing some difficulties with the different music players at hand. I currently try to use exaile as my main player. But I can't make it connect to my mp3 player. My player is a Creative Zen X-fi 8GB. Can anyone guide me through the process of making exaile compatible with my zen? As far as I can read from different posts, it should be possible... Another question of mine is the following. Is it possible to edit the artist names in the music library. My problem is that exaile has one entry with the artist name Band of Horses and another with the artist name Band Of Horses. I would like to have these entries as only one entry, but I don't know how to edit the one or the other. Right-clicking doesn't lead to anything...

I downloaded iTunes and am successfully running it though Wine. However, whenever I try to "Authorize Computer" or go to the iTunes store, iTunes won't connect to my network. I know it is not a network issue because I can surf Chrome at the same time iTunes says it can't connect. Is this fixable or is it not possible to "Authorize Computer"?
