Aug 29, 2010Since upgrading, whenever I play a .avi file 10.04 slows down and finally locks up.
I'm running memtest86 but there don't seem to be any problems.

May 10, 2010I can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).
I also took a snapshot of my system monitor. I am not sure what resources it is talking about?

Sep 14, 2010I have a HP Pavilion dv4 that is 4 months old. Yesterday it suddenly seemed to restart then once I logged in it turned off. When I tried to turn it on some of the lights came on and the caps lock and num lock started flashing. Since then I have not been able to get it to work correctly.It once seemed to turn on but died again after the login window.I tried to use my live cd but the same thing happened. Jun 12, 2011I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an old Sony Vaio laptop. I was following some of the steps here..[url]
The step "Enable Full DVD Playback(Dual Layer DVD Support)" did not finish correctly doh and now I can't use 'sudo apt-get' for anything or the software center or using the 'Update Manager' does not work.
The update manger says it may be caused by an update not finishing correctly which sounds correct as explained above. The apt-get command gives me back the following....'Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock resource temporarily unavailable' 'unable to lock administration directory /var/lib/dpkg is another process using it?'
I tried the obvious restart but that hasn't worked.

I have Googled this one to death but found nothing. This problem existed in Xubuntu 9.10 and now still exists in Xubuntu 10.04. The keyboard I use is a Logitech Elite Keyboard. I would love to be able to use the Caps Lock and Num Lock without the worry that I am disabling the media controls

May 27, 2010I have just burned the latest CD using infraRecorder, as per the instructions on this site, however when I boot from this CD, it spends about 5 minutes moving the red balls across my screen, then all of the sudden it just freezes, and my caps and scroll lock lights start to blink. Jun 23, 2010I'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.

there's websites, such as videos, that i can't choose anything in the actual media player... to be more specific, it plays just fine, but it i wanted to pause, turn down the volume, rewind, or skip ahead, nothing happens, it acts as though i'm not clicking on anything. i guess its not a big deal, but just a little annoyance.

Apr 28, 2010I used Openshot to produce a slideshow, and K3b to burn a DVD with the output from Openshot which is a .vob file.
The DVD plays on my new model, cheap Samsung DVD player. It comes up on the TV screen listed as an MPG. I hit play, it plays fine.
But on other peoples older DVD players it says NO DISK. It will not play.
Is there a way to take the .vob file I produced with Openshot and convert it or something so when K3b burns it to a DVD it will play on older DVD players?
Maybe vob can be converted into something, then burned with k3b so the resulting DVD is compatible with more, older DVD players??

Jul 7, 2010Only a few minutes ago, my sound just seemed to disappear while I was listening to some Dream Theater.
The onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS as I'm using another card.
Rhythmbox won't play anything. Starting a song just leaves the progress bar sitting at the start.
Sound preferences shows everything up at full. I tried modding the volume, but I can't move it (It moves for like a millisecond then hits 100% again).
It's a C-Media sound card. It was working perfectly prior to a few minutes ago.
What's going' on here?

Aug 30, 2010I have burnt a data DVD (containing mp3 files) from k3b with the default settings (filesystem: Linux/Unix+Windows). No Windows machine, and no DVD players recognize it. My linux machine can read it back, and a Mac notebook could also read it. What can be the problem? Does anybody have an idea? I tried disabling the RockRidge extension - the same result. CDs (burnt with the same settings) work fine.
