I'm trying to install ClientAccess. I just installed Ubuntu a couple days ago. There is a "setup5250.bin" file. I go to the directory it's in in Terminal. I run the command "sudo chmod +x setup.bin", and some other variations. It asks for the sudo password, and I enter it. Then it gives me:
chmod: cannot access 'setup5250.bin': No such file or directory
When I do ls or dir, it shows the file in the directory.
there are number of threads floating on installation of ns2..however i am unable to get it on my 64 bit system ns: error while loading shared libraries: libotcl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I was looking to download "America's Army" and was doing alright until I hit a slight snag, It had an error while loading libgtk1.2, so I scoured the Internet for a way to fix this and the find command I found just told me it couldn't find the package, this is the first error I got when I tried to uncompress the "America's Army" version I downloaded:
/home/zac/.setup3597: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: can not open shared object file: No such file or directory.
After upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10, the Ubuntu Software Center refused to start, and I got an icon in the notification area saying that "a problem occurred when checking for the updates." When I run software-center in the terminal, I get this error message:

I've tried re-installing apt and all related packages, even dpkg, and even downloaded the apt package directly from the ubuntu web site, but no matter what I do, I can't run these things. Aptitude and apt-get seem to work fine.
I'm new to Ubuntu . With windows when you install a app it creates a folder in the drive:c under programs : Where is the install folder on Ubuntu ? AND ' with windows ' there is an exe file ' what type of file is like the exe file''' to run ? or the path to run the app ?
I created an Ubuntu 10.4 iso with the kickstart cfg on it, trying to boot it with the ks=/cdrom/pathtoconfig (tried even ks=cdrom:/path) parameter in VirtualBox but it refuses to load the file and just launches the generic install.
I just completed the ubuntu 10.04 installation using the windows' installer. After the installation, the system reboot. I chose "ubuntu" from the OS selection screen.A message appeared that the system would verify the installation parameters.
Suddently, a message was shown: "no main file system chosen. Please solve this error from the partition menu." And it wouldn't continue!
how can I find the partition menu and set the file system for the ubuntu?? An idea would be to enter the installation cd for windows (as if I would wanted to format the pc)...wouldn't then the partition menu appear?
I am having difficulty installing Ubuntu on a new PC. Hardware is thus:MB: ASUS M4N68T-MCPU AMD Phenom II 3.2 GHzMem: Kingston 2GB DDR3-1800HDD: Seagate Barracuda 80 GB SATAvideo is on-board, cannot find the details regarding chipset.I have tried both 7.10 and 10.10 (would prefer to use 7.10) but both versions hang at the same point during installation.Live mode works fine on both versions.Tried burning 7.10 to CD at 4x write speed.Set MB bios "Plug and Play OS" to yes. When it hangs, the mouse freezes, then the video wigs out (think Van Gogh on acid) and only a hard power down will un-freeze it.
So I go add remove find AC (assault Cube) and install it.Try to start in Apps games Ac it says I need the most recent version.Go to AC website Get version download the tar.bz2 file extract the tar.bz2 file it leaves me with this I will attach a pic of it,
Ive installed about 50+ boxes with ubuntu/mint/fedora/etc but f15 is giving me a real headache...
I tried a fresh install over f14 with this drive (sdb, sda is my backup disk)
Installed obviously in part7
After rebooting (successful copied live image on hdd)
Code:
After another couple of installs (with lvm & w/o lvm) & even disconnecting the second harddrive -> same issue
Typing 'ls' in the rescue grub prompt returns
Code:
Cant 'ls /' into a single them - unknown filesystem (grub is installed in mbr of sdb) 'linux rescue' (wanted to try manual grub installation) command didnt work either.
Now again on fedora 14, same installation procedure, works fine. (and i wont bother doing a full distro upgrade from f14)
I have attempted to download and burn the fedora 13 i386 installation DVD twice, however, both DVDs that I burned failed during installation. I verified the .iso before burn and the dvd before installation and in both cases they were fine. But during installation, I received error messages that some random .rpm file could not be found (for each attempt it was different). All other configuration went fine, this only happened after the final package selection and when the actual installation starts.
EDIT: I am burning the DVD on my mac book pro using disk utility but performing the installation on a Toshiba Satellite.
On choosing the desired partition, where I wish to install Ubuntu, screen asks to choose the "File System" from the drop-down menu. How to decide on which one to choose from? What's the implication of choosing EXT4 over EXT3?**Point= Iam now fed up with 10.04 release since it is crippled with sporadic issues like --"Shaking Screen on Desktop load" & an abrupt "Screen Blackout"..Now I wish to roll-back to 9.04 again, the ONLY release of Ubuntu that worked "Perfectly" for me without posing any nuisance
I recently had to update my HDD since I needed more space . Hence I backed up my old 20 GB Linux HDD using the DD command and created a 20 GB IMG file. I used this IMG file to be transffer to a 100 GB partition , however it just used 20 GB on this partition as well ! IE only 20 GB of space is available on the new 100 GB HDD !
I have played with the "Live" CD / USB before, and it's my prefered way to install. However, I have an old lappie which won't boot from USB, and I have no blank CDs. I can get files onto it (Windows XP) via the USB keys or the network... but ... is there a way to copy an ISO onto it and force it to run as if it had booted up with it? Is there a utility to allow running the file that the Live USB is made from, with Windows no longer running?
I am absolutely not sure if this is correct channel to discuss ideas, please bear with me.
Problem: As a linux fan, I tend to tryout all linux Distro and its Releases, so, I burn a CD/DVD for each (Release) X (Distro) and install it, for next Release or another Distro, I burn another CD/DVD, so till now, I have nearly 100(s) of disks lying in my CD bank.
Constraints: Internet connection at my place is very slow, so cannot use network booting, I don't have a networked environment, so cannot setup the local network booting environment too.. (I download the ISOs from netcafe and get it to my home in pendrive)
Like me there could be *many* users who are unnecessarly consuming plastic disks for single installation, and hampering mother nature!!
Solution: One will download an boot-able ISO and place it on his machine, then, he will boot machine with *generic* booting CD which create a *virtual* CD ROM and mounts the specified ISO and start booting process once more, installation follows...
I am using Ubuntu 9.10. I was installing network simulator 2. After installation I get the following message.

My friend suggested that it is something to do with .bashrc file. I fund files like .bash.bashrc.
how to install/run a .run file. I went to the permissions tab under the properties and set it to "allow executing file as program" but after a few moments it says that I need to run it as a super user, meaning I need to run it via the terminal. I don't remember how to run the file/program to install it.
Aptitude and apt-get have a thing where they like to download more then one file at a time, maybe 2, maybe 3.Is there a way to have these programs only download one at a time? It'd help my unstable connection if these downloads would actually finish...
I tried to install DrRacket on my computer, and it's an .sh file. Do any of you know how to go about doing this? I tried Gedit, and it couldn't detect the character encoding.
I have a question regarding ubuntu installation. When I burn the ubuntu installation iso file to a CD-R, does it close the CD-R disc at the end(i.e. prevent writing more data to disc) or can I append more data to the disc in another session?
I am still a fresh newbie to linux and I have recently configured my netbook to run ubuntu 10.04. Everything including the installation off a usb was fine but I am having problems installing imaged software because these netbooks don't have DVD ROMs. I have read up a few solutions and know about sudo mount loop -o but where I am stuck is on how to declare the file path, i.e., the file is on my ext hdd called my passport. Now how do I tell it to look in media then my passport then in my university folder? I am not sure if I need to make a new directory as well.
After not having used Ubuntu for a few months now, I want to make up a new LiveCD and possibly a bootable USB. The times I have done this in the past, the installations don't include recent updates which need to be downloaded and installed once the system is running. (Understandably)
Two questions:
1) Does Ubuntu update the downloadable ISO periodically to include recent updates?
...for example: Now that it is January (ie. some 3 months after release of Karmic in October '09 and some 200-300Meg+ of updates required since that time), will I be downloading an ISO from Ubuntu that has recent updates already as part of it, or will it still require updates to be downloaded and installed once Ubuntu is running on the computer?
2) If the downloadable ISO has not been updated since Oct '09, is there a way of making a LiveCD/bootable USB that has up-to-date updates already installed? (if you know what I mean?) ....and is this process relatively simple?
