Sep 12, 2010I accidentally deleted the Hardware Drivers app from the Administration part of the Menu. How do I restore it on the menu?

Fedora :: Deleted Menu.lst - How To Restore
Apr 1, 2011I have a Laptop where I installed both Fedora 11 and windows 7 dual boot.
While I was upgrading Fedora 11 to Fedora 14 using preupgrade, I tried to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst file to make an option to continue upgrading the system after rebooting.
Accidentally, I deleted the file content and I couldn't restore it
I knew then that I'll face a problem when I reboot the system, and I faced it >> the grub selection menu disappeared , and only the line (grub> ) appeared when I reboot the system.

But when I rebooted , nothing changed and the same (grub> ) appeared again.
2- I used the instructions in the PDF attached, but unfortunately nothing changed.
I think that I have to rewrite the menu.lst and grub.cnf files but I'm not expert and I don't know exactly what was there (locations , commands , etc. )

After going through various posts all I can see, is that the solutions provided only provide the applet for sound control and does not have any integration with any of the music players (in my case Rhythmbox).I really want that menu back as it made listening to music while using multiple desktops very easy.

General :: GRUB Boot Menu Disapeared After NTFS Partition Deleted?
Feb 28, 2010I have a dual boot system with Windows XP and Fedora12. Following is the partition structure of my harddisk.

I deleted the "/dev/sda8" through Windows Disk Management, and when i restarted the system. GRUB boot menu vanished and a GRUB console appeared. Then I booted my system using Fedora12 live USB and created a new partition at same place from where i deleted it, and then after restart my started working normally as it was before partition deletion.
But, I don't understand what actually happened. Can anyone tell me in detail what happened and why and what to do to avoid such things in future?

May 25, 2010I was trying to delete a menu item that I no longer needed because its referenced application was uninstalled, but I ended up deleting the "Search for Files" item under Applications > Accessories instead. I hit the revert button but no dice (go figure). Anyone know where I can get another copy of the *.desktop file, or perhaps would someone care to attach it for me?

May 27, 2011how to install Nvidia drivers without losing my menu.Slightly more specifically: When I go to install the drivers for my graphics card (Nvidia 7300 SE/ 7200 GS) under the 'Additional Drivers' menu in Administration, it does everything fine, wants to restart, and when it does, I have no menu, no bottom bar, nothing. The only thing on my screen is my wallpaper. (I'm using the gnome set-up, not Unity) For whatever reason, my Linksys adapter stopped working with Windows7. I dunno why, I tried everything, it's just not working. Yet when I boot into Ubuntu 11.04 x64 it works perfectly. HOW ON EARTH a Linksys device is working better out of the box on Linux than it does on Windows is profoundly beyond my level of understanding, but no complaints. Once I found out that Ubuntu can actually run World of Warcraft better than Windows, given the right adjustments.I removed Windows from my hard-drive post haste.I've gotten WoW to run on Ubuntu now, but it runs horribly, like 1fps. Added the OpenGL text to the config.wtf file, and it got only very slightly less horrible, but I'd like to assume that having an actual driver for my graphics card would make the game playable.

Ubuntu :: Deleted Files On USB Drive Not Actually Deleted?
Jun 7, 2010I searched the forum with various terms and didn't find anything, so my apologies if this is a common and/or newbie problem.It seems that when I have a USB driveplugged in to switch the files around, those that I delete are still taking up space. I first noticed it with a Chinese MP3 player and thought it was the player being crappy. I could still play all the songs that were supposedly gone. Today, I noticed it with a little thumb drive that I've had for years. I plugged it into my husband's computer running winXP, and the files showed up in a weird, unusable form. I was able to delete them for real.

Jul 21, 2011My install of 11.4 (& 12.1) won't load unless I add the X11failsafe option to the loading of 11.4 (& 12.1) in the Grub menu.lst file. They bomb out after resetting the video when booting. I don't need to do this with my 11.3 install. Upon closer inspection 11.3 is using the nouveau nVidia driver, whereas both 11.4 & 12.1 are using the fbdev nVidia driver. My Hardware is a GEForce 6150SE and a Samsung SyncMaster 933SN. I have a couple of questions
1) What do I lose by adding the X11failsafe option in Menu.lst?
2) Can I, should I, replace the fbdev driver with something else. If yes, What? Nouveau?
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Set Nvidia Drivers - Dual Monitor Without Proprietary Drivers?
Apr 8, 2010I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

Oct 24, 2009I just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?

Jul 2, 2010I'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons.When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens.It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.
