Using clamav and its finding like 20 virus however, its not quarantining them because of permissions. Help part of kde is missing and I cant find it in synaptic package manager. I would like to find a solution with how permissions can be sanctioned for kde.

This started happening sometime yesterday afternoon on a server that's been trouble free for years.
My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
I have two servers complaining about ClamAV being outdated:

Doing an aptitude update says I don't have to upgrade anything. Why is this? Must ClamAV be updated manually?
Finally I managed to install my printer/scanner drivers.The last thing I need to do is to add the following two lines to 40-libsane.rules (which is a read only file):# Brother scanners ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes".How can I change permissions for this file or add these lines without changing permissions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedProblem: permissions for rsync and BackinTime. Setup: Ubuntu 11.04, Two internal HD, #1=main, single boot, #2=backup drive. Question: How do I set up my 2nd HD with correct permissions? Background: I had previously a dual boot XP+10.04 with a 2nd HD formatted as NTFS. With this I was able to use my rsync and backintime to my 2nd HD with no issue. My new set up is EXT4 on both HD.
(I even tried to reformat my 2nd HD as NTFS, but that didnt fix the issue) I followed [URL] to mount the 2nd HD and get permissions. But now when I run backintime i get this error: [E] Error: rsync: opendir "/home/myhome/.ssh" failed: Permission denied (13) I did my requisite reading for a newbie, and am stuck. I ran backintime as root, and it backed up ok. How do I run my user version of backintime? (i.e. How do I fix the permission issue?)
Is it possible to reset apache 2 permissions to default permissions I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 command line server, would webmin give me this access ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows Installation is infected even with Eset installed! I don't know how to clean it. Already tried safe mode scan, but that doesn't even clean it. The only reason I installed ubuntu was so that I could download infected files without any conserns of my windows parition being infected. When ever I download a file, I move it to the NTFS partition from where windows can access it. But just about a week ago when I booted into Windows, my whole drive was infected, not only windows installed partition but also all my NTFS partition. Can anyone please tell me how can I CLEAN the files rather than qurantine all the files which CLAMAV does!
Also, what steps should I take in advance before downloading a virus infected file? I know the virus could've have gotten in when I disable eset for some software installation but it should clean after boot or after being booted.But there should be a way to clean all my NTFS partition .... how? I don't know how to used CLAMAV properly because whenever I try to scan anything, it always returns with '0 files scan' because I think the directory scan doesn't work the way it should!
what a horrendous piece of software. Ive been at it 3 days trying to do something that ought to be simple and everytime i solve one problem another problem arises. at first I removed the old clamav 9.5 or something. I got the latest ubuntu release btw, and Clamav used to work when i first installed it in the previous ubuntu release. anyway, it asked me to upgrade, so since synaptic doesnt have the latest, i downloaded from sourceforge. I did the whole ./configure gave me errors like need build-essentials-- which i then did, error: need zlib.dv--- I did that one too. Now two more errors that i need to fix so I can compile it.

Still the synaptic has different version of clamav in it, one has 0.96.4 and the other has 0.96.5.Even one other installation of 10.04 has the 0.96.5 in the repository. Why can one installation show different version then the other?
I uses the Googles to search for an AntiVirus to install on Ubuntu, to check for viruses that attack windows. The only thing I could find resembling an antivirus is Clam Av, does it work well?

On this network there is a Windows 2008 R2 server that serves as DNS Exchange and file server. For some unknown reason this Windows server looses network connection when the ubuntu server comes online. After some investigation the network connection is instantly restored when I stop the clamav-freshclam service on the ubuntu server. When I start the service the network connection of the Windows server goes down.The only "link" with the Windows service and the Ubuntu server is that the Windows server is configure as the nameserver on the ubuntu server.
I want to run this in production because the ubuntu will serve as anti-spam server. I need to understand what is happing and why to prevent this.

Also, my engine is 0.96.5. The latest version is 0.97. But "aptitude upgrade" can not upgrade the engine to 0.97. I understand 0.97 is still on testing. I am wondering if I can just stay with 0.96.5 and wait for the 0.97 passing all tests. if so, does it cause any security issue?
My windows partition is infected and I recall that it is supposed to be possible from the linux partition with ClamAV. Now I'm running Fedora12 but this forum is much more active and I suppose that doesn't make a big difference. I tried to find something on google but most procedures seem to involve a Live CD but it would be more convenient for me to just do it from my linux distro running. Is there anything I have to be aware of or is it literally just scanning the windows partition with ClamAV?
