View 5 Repliesjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.
My System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive
Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22)
(Used Desktop Install CD)

I recently installed Linux Mint 8 (main) on my P.C.. When I select the main menu and activate the Terminal, all that comes up is a blank white window--The same thing happens when I try to run Software Manager or Synaptic. Could you please instruct me how to fix this
problem.
I want to install MATLAB 2009 on a ubuntu server 10.04 amd64 which has NOT any gui. The installation was successful however when it comes to activate, it says "Could not open display. Exiting.". Here is what I did:
1- ssh -X user@server
2- verified that I can see "xclock" and "xcalc". Yes I can see...
3- cd /mnt ; ./install
4- I can see the GUI wizard since the X11 forward is working. Installation done successfully.
5- cd /opt/Matlab/bin ; ./activate_matlab.sh
it says: Could not open display. Exiting.
- open terminal and type gconf-editor - apps -> metacity -> global_keybinding and look for panel_main_menu - right click and edit, change value to "Super_L" without the quote.

Something very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed a few minutes ago that although I can open the Places and System menus fine, when I click on Applications it highlights but no drop down menu appears beneath it as usual, and when I right click and select Edit Menus also nothing happens.
I have since restarted which did not resolve the issue.
How can I remedy this, and what could have caused the problem to begin with?
Whenever I try to take a screen shot with a menu open the menu disappears. Is this correct, and if not how do I put it right?

View 8 Replies View Relatedso in Windows I remember I could add to the registry under the * folder in classes_root under Shell, I could add any command I wanted. That way no matter what file I right clicked on I could have EDIT or OPEN with that file.
Is there a way to add this to the gnome right click menu? A default always there for all filetypes? I have UltraEdit Linux installed and want to have the same functionality I had when I used to use windows.
I uninstalled Wine. But when I right click on files, I still can see "Wine core exe" in "Open with..." menu.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI always had the x86 installed on my laptop, but I figured for fedora 12 I would install the i386 version so I would only have to burn 1 disc (desktop needs i386). But the first few days, I couldn't open the firewall from the menu because it always crashed. From terminal no problem. This was with a couple of these standard gnome apps. With the 'autmatic bug reporting tool' I can now see how many times each program crashes. Samba still crashes every time I try to open it, python crashed, firefox loves to crash these days (with a flash open), amsn crashed a couple of times (empathy and telepathy-butterfly packages).Ofcourse I update my system every few days, so I have the latest updates of each package.
