Mar 26, 2011
I have changed the password on ubuntu 10.10When i try to connect to a wireless network it asks for a passwordit doesnt accept the new onehow can i make it accept the new one
At boot up, the KDE Wallet Service keeps asking for my password to allow wireless access! How can I stop this? I want wireless access to be allowed permanently.
I m Trying to get vsftpd usergroups to work i accidentally moved a file called passwd from /etc/vsftpd/ to /etc/, resulting in my root access is destroyed! how to restore the passwd file so i can keep working, or do i have to re-install the entire box?
I would like to try to install the nvidia drivers on my F12 box.fter two failed attempts, one of which required me to completely wipe F12 and reinstall (i.e. right royal pain), I would like to be more careful for the next attempt. The problem is that if I try to upgrade to nvidia drivers, and they don't work, I need a way of backing the installation. But, if the driver upgrade fails, then the OS won't boot. I tried going in with a Knoppix live DVD, but it could only access Fedora's /boot partition, not the main OS mounted on /. Therefore, I couldn't change undo the selection of the nvidia driver and back out.The output of mount is:
Code: # mount /dev/mapper/vg_machine-lv_root on / type ext4 (rw)
on the command line, I get the man page for perl, which lists all of the sections into which the perl man pages have been split. How do I access one of these sections? For instance, the first section is perlintro, but if I type
Code: man perlintro
I get an error saying there is no such manual entry. How do I access these parts of the manual?
just install kde in ubuntu couple of hours ago.i was just checking the panels and widgets.unfortunately i delete the bottom main panel. so i cant access any thing.just desktop is seen.without kde bottom panel kde is useless.its looks like this.snapshot1.pngwhat can i do. i want it to default position ?
I do regular updation of my system. Today, I have updated my ubuntu system, but after booting I am getting only grub> command prompt. I am not able to see my main login screen. - I am using 11.04. - I have ubuntu 10.04 cd.
I don't exactly know what happened but for some reason only the main user has access now to the networkmanager and is able to connect to internet. If I switch to another user, the networkmanager reports no connectivity and the PCMCIA card dies. Does anyone know what to do? It seems like an access feature, related to permissions or something.
I checked but the user is added to the netdev group...
I am on mac os x and whenever I make aliases in my apache config file to point to folders outside of main web document root folder, I get access forbidden. I have chmod -R 777 the whole destination directory (to test it) and still no go. Access forbidden. I have also tried pointing directly to [URL].
I am getting trouble with knetwork manager. I created a new connection by scanning and connecting using knetwork manager. But every time connection gets disconnected and ask for password and again it connects.
I have this problem with my wifi for 2 weeks now.It used to work great and after some updates the Network Manager keeps rejecting my wpa passwords. The wifi card is working (tested with other OS's) and the wifi light on my HP laptop is on. I have installed broadcom drivers. The problem is similar with this one here but changing from default kernel to desktop didn't work in my case. have already read through Getting your Wireless to work and Broadcom instructions
I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.
Im trying to config my intranet to be accessible from inside the network (lan) without need of password and ask for a passwd for those who are viewing from Wan ....
Today my intranet can only be accessed from Lan, external access give me an Unauthorized message, I took look around, try #irc and still can get the appropriated help, I hope that someone here could help me on that...
A friend of mine helped me set up a server which includes Squirrel Mail. It?s CentOS 5.3.I have a person who would like to access Squirrel Mail at remote sites. My questions is, I can create an account on the server which has KDE and the usual general applications and he would have the remote access Squirrel Mail but he doesn?t need nor does he want to access KDE or anything else on my server. He just want an account so he can use Squirrel Mail.
Debian 2.6.32-5-amd64 KDE I have to make one of my computers wireless. i need some product recommendations for a wireless access point & a wireless network card.
one of these "WiFi works in Gnome, not in KDE" threads, but I have been all over google and hundreds of threads across different sites and can't figure this one out.As mentioned, wireless is peachy in Gnome, unfortunately I like KDE and I'm more productive using it (when I have internet). Wired network works fine in KDE, and my network card
System Information:openSUSE v11.2 32-bitdesktop: KDE 4.x (.3 I think)Background info: Installed openSUSE 11.2 on an old HP laptop this morning. I've been trying to set up my wireless connection since. After 2-ish hours of searchingupport forums, I managed to use network manager to connect to my home wireless network via WEP, I will say now that I've had lots of trouble.
I've finally been able to connect to my network, to a point. The NetworkManager in openSUSE says that the wireless connection is active. I can verify this by saying that on the other conputers in my house (winXP, win7, and Ubuntu v9) I have been able to ping this openSUSE computer and my router recognizes it as part of the network. Here is where the problem arises: I cannot access the internet from the openSUSE machine, with a domain name or by trying to type in an ip address, and I cannot ping other computers on my network with it.
My wireless is a libertas 88w8335. Suse 11.4 just installed. For this one, I need a windows driver with ndiswrapper. ndiswrapper is installed, and the driver as well.
I can see my networks with iwlist scan my network is set up in yast with ifup (I can scan the networks and find mine), but I cannot connect to my Acces point : there is no SSID with iwconfig.
I'm having trouble setting up my desktop pc to access the internet via my wireless router. i have tried to set it up in networkmanager (it shows as connected when clicking on the NM icon) but when loading firefox or when trying to update opensuse i just cannot get a connection.
I have never set up any other password, yet I'm asked for Root password and therefore locked out from superuser. This is my own personal computer at home and there is no other O/S installed. My password works for almost anything else I've needed it for so far but I can't install my printer driver, or access su, or any of its other related privileges
I have a dual boot machine and recently did a fresh install of 10.4. It no longer asks for a password to access the Windows partition and I full access to it. This seems insecure to me and was wondering if someone else came across this. I thought I saw this topic discussed before but I can not seem to find it now. Is this a bug or a new unpleasant feature?I don't think it makes a difference but I do have a separate encrypted home partition on this fresh install. I have also done two fresh installs. (Well three...once testing out KDE but didn't try the Win partition. )
I am currently running Lucid 10.04(lts) on a dual boot with windows xp. What i am looking for is some guidance on how to re-install the requirement for a password when trying to mount the xp partition as this was standard in Jaunty and i liked it like that as my computer is often open for many hours at work. Yeh i know i can lock the screen but sometimes other people need to use my computer.
... when I tried to download an adobe flash player, this linux windows pops up saying that I should enter a password. When I entered a password(which was the password I used to log into my ubuntu linux operating system on my ibm think laptop), it says that the password is incorrect. I was under the assumption that the password that is required to download online applications and software like adobe(sudo password?) and the password that is required to log onto my operating system were the same passwords. What should I do to change the password that is needed to download online applications? I want to keep the password that is required to log onto my OS the same since I know that password.
I have tried: booting into single user mode (using '1' and 'single' in my bootloader edits) and it still ends up kicking me to the 'myBox login:' prompt booting from a live-CD with no luck - seems my CD drive is hosed, or the system just won't boot the CD
This is a system I set up, literally, years ago, with no need to touch it. It was originally set up as a file server, running SAMBA. I am wanting to add CUPS to it, and possibly a web server if it will handle the load. Currently, it is running Debian 4.0 without a GUI.
My next step, if I can't get into the root account, is to install a new OS (and try to salvage the file shares that exist). I just would rather keep the install that I have, but I need to hack/crack or change my root password.
I was wondering if there is any way in Linux in general and Fedora 13 in particular to configure system so that any service that needs access to internet will have to ask for password/permission to do so. So that I can
So I'm attempting to get my system to not require the root password while still requiring some form of authentication. My current issue is getting yast2 and its components to ask for the user's password and not the root's.
Is there a way to have these tools ask for user's password instead of root's?
I would like to use a wireless network, I type in the correct password but suddenly a new window pops up saying: 'an application wants to access to the keyring 'Vorgabe', but its is locked password:'
But I don't know what password it's talking about I went to Password and Encryption keys, there are two folders 'password: vorgabe' 'Password: login'
