View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm finding it very difficult to play a video stream of .mov format. The Totem Media player gives me an error : GstDecodeBin2: This appears to be a text file
Even Real Media Player for linux is giving me an error: General error: HXR_CORRUPT_FILE (0x80040091)
Even VLC hangs on trying to play it.
(BTW the file isnt corrupt though, its apple's last night's iphone press conference from their official website - [URL])
I can play nearly any video format on my pc because I have loaded all of the nessessary software. But what about tvs? I loaded some videos onto my flash drive and then I inserted it into the usb port of a LCD tv. Nothing on the drive would play. I assume it is because tv have a limited number of formats that they will play. Now, if I intend to download videos and convert them so that they will play on a tv, what are my best options for..

I have a couple of videos that end with the extension: .mp4.dap the videos, apparently, were .mp4 but instead are not .mp4.dap where .dap are DarkAdapted Presets File. arkAdapted is a software which applies a red or green filter to the screen to help your eyes get dark adapted.
I thought that Linux in general & Ubuntu in particular allows changing the video format by simply changing the extension name, but this doesn't seem to work now; i recall it once worked sometime ago. Am I mistaken or what ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan I ask for some advice in converting a video (from my phone) which is a 3gp file into something more universal. I use audokonverter for audio files and this gives me a menu right-click option to convert a song from (say) wav to mp3. Is there an equivalent for videos? I am using opensuse 11.4 64 bit and have mplayer, xine and vlc installed plus the necessary codecs. Or is it simpler to use ffmpeg in a c/l environment
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn inspection I find that my collection of video files is a mixture of .flv and .mp4 formats. The latter play OK on my A110 network media player but the latter do not. There is no sound from either but I think that is another problem as VLC works well on all of them.
My question assuming I cannot get the media player to play .flv files is should I convert to mp4 and will the HD files suffer as a result? If it is OK to convert, which program to use. My system is openSUSE 11.4 with KDE desktop.
I am not able to see the video of a .flv format in VLC player. I tried it in the SMplayer also but of no use. I can hear the audio but no video on it. Just a black screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI emailed myself a video. I took with my ipod touch, and its in .mov format which ubuntu doesn't support. I have an app called arista transcoder (a little slow, but very handy), which, for some reason, isn't able to convert the video. its strange because I was able to convert a few other videos from my ipod (same format) into .avi files last week. Arista says something about an unrecognized media type.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem I have is that when trying to convert the files to another format or open them with a video editing program I get messages such as "Invalid data found when processing input" I used a FireFox plug-in called "video downloadhelper" to save the video files to my local ubuntu PC and this saved them as *.wmv files. If I double click the file name then the Totem Mplayer opens up and plays the video OK. The one strange thing is that the file sizes seem to be quite small for what I would expect, for example, a 1 minute video clip is showing with a file size of 145 bytes (not kb or mb but bytes) but they do play OK with the Totem MPlayer.
I have tried converting them to AVI using both FFMpeg and WinFF and both give the same message about "Invalid data found when processing input". Also, if I copy the files to a windows PC and try to open them up with a video editing program such as Sony Vegas this also fails to recognise the files. Finally, if I try to play the files on a windows PC with VLC Player, or GOM Player or Windows Media Player none of them can play the files.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi am trying to export a video from pitivi in a format that can be uploaded to videos. i found this thread which suggests using an flv muxer with the l.a.m.e. mp3 encoder. my problem is that my pitivi doesn't list lame as an option, and i haven't been able to get it in.
i have tried reinstalling lame from the repositories, and also building lame, ffmpeg, gstreamer, faac, x264 and pitivi from the latest source. i simply can't get a video format to export that works in videos. mp4 and other format exports don't seem to work at all, they get stuck on the first frame.
pitivi can export ogg video perfectly, however if i try to upload that to videos it comes out with bad video. i've tried converting the ogg video to avi with mencoder, but it drops a lot of frames and ends up with the audio badly out of sync. i've run out of ideas to try -- anyone been through this before, or know of something i may be doing wrong? i'm certainly no expert in building from source (or anything!), it just seemed like something to try...
I don't want to install anything more,so I want to convert the unsupported video file to supported one. I currently using lucid.
