Ubuntu :: Server Set Up On A PC That Use For Video Surveillance?

Jan 11, 2010

I have a server set up on a PC that I use for video surveillance. I have a UPS
backup power that lasts long enough to do a graceful shutdown when commercial
power goes out. Is there a way to turn the PC back on remotely without having to
be there physically? If for example I can log in remotely via Putty and do a shutdown
and halt my system; is there a hardware or a software method to power up the PC
remotely so that the surveillance can resume?

Ubuntu Installation :: Setting Up Video Surveillance Camera On Zoneminder

Mar 23, 2010

I currently have eight surveillance cameras setup that used to connect to a windows pc. I decided to throw away the old computer, take the dvr card from the old computer and use it in a new computer with ubuntu 9.10. However, till now I can't get the cameras to work.

I installed Zoneminder, and followed instructions from here and there with no useful results. What I currently have are monitors showing black screens, with the fps showing.

I am pretty much still a noob, so I am not sure where I went wrong. I do not get anything when i run XawTV (or maybe i don't know how to run it right).

when i run "lspci | grep Bt878" I get this

Code:

Following instructions from various places, this is what I have for the following files /etc/modules :

Code:

Code:

Code:

I followed the instructions for installing Zoneminder on Ubuntu 9.10: [url]

I also get some tips for setting up the tv card: [url]

What is confusing is I get a fps rate, which is a sign that the camera is working, but all i get is a black screen. The cameras used to work in the original windows setup, so i doubt that the cameras are not working.

Software :: Surveillance VHS Based Recorder (Audio And Video Capture)

Mar 2, 2009

I have 4 video surveillance cameras with built-in microphones. The original VHS based recorder died and so I decided to build a PC based DVR for surveillance recording. Q-See will soon be shipping the QSPD4104 video/audio capture card that can capture both video and audio from 4 camera/microphone combos. (They also have the QSPD4114 with 16 a/v inputs) Is there surveillance software that can record both video and audio from multiple camera/microphone combos?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HD Video Playback - Video And Sound Frequently Get Out Of Sync

Oct 17, 2010

When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).

I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.

Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

The barn is located four hundred feet away from the house. No problem with line of sight. I'm getting too old to drag my behind up to the barn in the middle of the night when newborns arrive.

General :: Temporarily Throttle Internet Connection For Testing Purposes?

Mar 16, 2009

I would like to know if it is possible (and, if so, how I would go about doing so) to temporarily limit my Internet connection on a Linux box.

I am developing some new features for one of my Web sites, and I want to see how it performs when using a slower Internet connection. Although it's great for most aspects of my job to have a lightning-fast connection (around 25000-30000 kbps download and 20000-25000 kbps upload speeds), it really makes it difficult to know even what average users might experience when using some of the aspects of our Web site.

I have Linux Mint installed in VirtualBox on my computer, and I'd like to find some way to potentially temporarily "trick" that installation into using a much slower connection to the Internet for testing purposes.

Fedora Installation :: Dual Boot Vista10 For School Purposes?

Apr 23, 2009

Im trying to dual boot Vista/Fedora 10 for school purposes. I have some linux classes on my required classes. Over the past 3 days Ive had one or the other booting correctly. My harddrive layout

Partition 0: Recovery
Partition 1: Vista
Partition 2: Fedora 10
Partition 3: Linux Swap

I have both of them installed on the harddrive. Im using EasyBCD 1.7.2 to manage the bootloader. Last time I installed Fedora I did not install a bootloader in the options. Everytime I do, Vista appears to load properly but then my Gateway recovery console wants to run and asks me to do a restore and of course after the restore Fedora dies in a sense.

So right now I have Vista working, Fedora on partition 2 and it will not load. Any ideas on where to go from here to get my Fedora partition bootable.

OpenSUSE Network :: Error As "This Address Uses A Network Port Which Is Normally Used For Purposes Other Than Web Browsing

Jul 27, 2011

I am facing two issues with CUPS - 1. I have installed cups 1.3.9 over OpenSuse11 x86. Please check below -

cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cups-config --version
1.3.9
cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.27.7-9-pae (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.2 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 141291] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100

I have added few printers over there and everything is working fine. I can also able to add - delete - modify any printers from "yast2 printer" command. I can also able to browse cups web interface via http://cups:631, but when I am going to manage the printers (start - stop - delete etc), none of the buttons are working in firefox5 not even in IE also. Older version of firefox is giving error as "This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection." All other buttons are working properly.

2. LINUX - LINUX Printing - OK
LINUX - WINDOWS Printing - OK
WINDOWS - LINUX Printing - NOT OK

While giving printing from Windows machine (Printer attached on Linux), there is no problem to coonect the printers, but unable to print.

Ubuntu :: Video Recording Without Any Sound?

Sep 21, 2010

I have a problem with my Video recording without any sound. I have looked into the fixes of the 64bit MMPEG upgrades and gone through what steps I can find to fix the problem, although even after going through the re-compile in konsole, as well as then removing it and trying again using K Package Manager, I still have no Audio with my Video when recording in Cheese.Cheese records the video in ogv format, and I have attempted to convert the ogv file to avi format using VLC. I am able to watch the video in both VLC and Dragon Player... but no sound, just video. I have used Cheese to record video's using Ubuntu 8.10 onwards, but my current Kubuntu 10.04.01 (and when I had 10.04) has no sound in the recordings. I have not changed microphone, and I have checked all my connections. I can hear voice in the speakers through the microphone. I am using on board sound, which I have no other issues with. The error message I get tells me that my MMPEG install lacks the AAC Audio Codec.
