How Do I Undo the Maverick Meerkat (Beta) Upgrade? Is that possible?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIbus is very familiar to some users. And they find only one way to use Ibus as their keyboard layout. But its not possible to use ibus on Maverick Meerkat by default. you need to follow some instruction to do that. Here I am telling how I have done this...
Go to System> Administration> Synaptic Package Manager (you have to give your password) type " ibus-m17 " on search box. then just install the one appears. After installation the package, just close the synaptic. Now you are done to use Ibus.
Now go to System>Administration>Language Support (it may ask you to install the Language support, just click on the "Remind me later") Then select ' ibus ' from the "Keyboard input method system" under the Language tab.
Then close the window and restart the PC.
Thats the work I have done to get the iBus on Maverick Meerkat.
Is Ubuntu going to release a second version of Ubuntu 10.10 using Unity as well as keep the Maverick Meerkat version? I don't know about you, but I already hate the Unity version. It looks like the desktop at your ATM. This could be Ubuntu's Vista.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having frequent freezing issues within Ubuntu 10.10 and it's beginning to become a regular thing. I've come to find out that it only happens when the visual effects settings are at normal or extra. Everything will be fine for whatever amount of time but after a while the entire system freezes. I get no response from ANYTHING at all, not even the keyboard/mouse. This is really annoying and I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm mostly new to the whole Linux scene. Machine Specs:
Compaq Presario SR5250NX
Intel Pentium Dual Core @ 1.60 GHz

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Maverick Meerkat won't boot. I have tried removing the option of quiet boot and after a whirl of text flies by the splash screen is reached, after a few seconds just blackness indefinitely. Does anybody have any suggestions of what I can do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Lucid for last 6 month and I am really amazing for its stability of using. And I am a Desktop user. However, Yesterday I have downloaded the 10.10 Maverick Meerkat Desktop (32 Bit). I have made a Startup Disk using UBUNTU Startup Disk Creator for that .iso which I have downloaded yesterday. That is a USB Live Disk. But the sad news is its not being able to boot my PC. where my PC configuration is not so bad.
Pentium Dual Core E2200 @2.20 Ghz
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2C motherboard
2GB DDR2 RAM with 800 bus speed
1TB HDD
(I also tried disconnecting the HDD and my DVD Rom, same problem arises) The boot screen is trying to boot the PC but its doing for a long time, for about 10 mins, nothing reports it. I have press ESC to see wats happening beside this. Then I have seen a text there. Which is similar to the below (may have some spelling mistakes) "Process 283 Glib warning getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)" I hve checked the .iso SUM several times, where everything is ok.

I can chose Shutdown from the menu but the system gets to the point where the power supply should 'click' and shut off. It doesn't, it cycles and the system reboots. It wasn't doing this in 10.04, at least not towards the end prior to updating to 10.10 beta/rc/final. Also, 10.10 didn't do this either, until recently. (Current default = 2.6.35-22-generic)
Here's the funny thing though; if I choose a previous version from the GRUB2 menu, 2.6.32-21-generic for example, the login screen won't allow mouse nor keyboard control but will shut down normally w/ a single, momentary push of the Power Button. Now, there are folks w/ a seemingly similar problem, but in their case they can't shutdown at all. My trouble is a shutdown just triggers a restart.
I've been running Ubuntu on an IBM Thinkpad T42 for about 3 years and have never had any instability but my Meerkat upgrade 10.10 about a week ago has never been right and seems to be getting worse. It's almost impossible to use the Internet. Whether Epiphany or Firefox, the screen keeps going grey and regularly freezes the computer completely so that NO keyboard commands work and only a hard restart will do. I also have problems streaming audio feeds with RP 11 or VLC. VLC is more of a problem which I find odd as it is solid in Windoze.
PS The instability isn't only Internet related. There are lots of strange little things like authentication windows not closing after I enter password and hit Enter or click OK, not being able to paste in Terminal (sometimes not others), toolbard in apps appearing differently sometimes, stuff like that.
I installed the compiz-settings-manager but the "Advanced Desktop Settings Manager" did not appear in the menu. Hence I cannot enable the Cube. Any idea what's going on here?

I have talked to other people, and they say to wait about a month until after the release to fix all bugs and stuff. Is this a good Idea? Or should I update now and just get it over with?

I am unable to shutdown ubuntu after upgrading it to Maverick Meerkat.
I can do Ctrl + Alt + F4 and then Ctrl + Alt + Del but it does not let me use the taskbar button. When I press the shutdown button it just takes me to login page.
I really don't know where to post this but my computer runs a lot slower now (amd64,athlon 11x2 235e, nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, maverick meerkat) so I have been trying to remove stuff like printers, evolution, things I have no use for but the package manager only lets me remove bits and pieces of apps...why if you remove those items will the gnome desktop have to be uninstalled too? What does the desktop have to do with emails or printing? I am from the old school...if you don't need it remove it. Some stuff I have removed is Openoffice (that really cleared some space!) and replaced it with Abiword, also got rid of Shotwell photo manager, Empathy, Bittorrent, Gwibber, Telepathy, and parts of evolution...any way to completely remove Evolution? Any other programs I can get rid of without uninstalling my desktop? And what about all those useless printer files? I ran virus scanner and computer janitor also.

I want to run this after resuming from suspending. I've been successful in running the script on startup but couldn't do anything about resuming from suspending with these methods [URL] and every other in the forums. By the way, these commands enable Two-Finger Scrolling (doesn't work if you put both your fingers in an horizontal line or vertical).
I just had the idea of going back to command line music players and mp3blaster is what that came to my mind. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop with the default kernel. In an archived thread I read
mp3blaster -s /dev/dsp
would do the trick. But since all sound devices in my current laptop seem to be listed under /dev/snd as pcmC0D0p etc. I tried using,
mp3blaster -s /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
and this gave a sound device control error.
Just did some digging around and saw that I didn't have any oss modules running. Are they the culprits? If not how would I make mp3blaster use my current devices else do I need to reconfigure my kernel to have the oss modules?
It looks like something must've slipped the attention of Ubuntu developers as in the previous LTS version laptop suspension after closing the lid worked perfectly fine for me (Dell Latitude D820) while after upgrading to Meerkat it doesn't work any more....well sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't - it behaves sort of like a weather in UK/Ireland ...anyway...is there more information I could provide to you guys or is there something you could give me to point me to the right direction ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently use Karmic Koala (9.10) and want to upgrade to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). The thing is that Update Manager allows me to upgrade only to 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) but I cannot upgrade to Lucid Lynx because of a bug which freezes my keyboard and mouse. Also, upgrading first to 10.04 and then to 10.10 is quite time consuming. Can I upgrade directly to 10.10 from 9.10 without 10.04 acting as a mediator?
