Slackware :: The Help Files Of Vi?
Jul 1, 2011In search of the vi help files, I thought 'grep -irlw vi /var/log/packagtes' would do. But it appeared in ten packages. Do you know the package name?

View 14 RepliesI've been installing a fair amount of packages from slackbuild.org. Is it a good idea to backup the tgz files i get from building the .SlackBuild files?. I think this would save me time in case if i reinstall slack, then i can install these packages by doing just
Code:
Instead going through the whole:
1)Download source,SlackBuild script
2)Run SlackBuild script
3)finally installpkg if successful.
Will there be any problems with configurations if i don't do it from the beginning?. I thought of this because some packages took helluva time to download and compile.
I just encounter a problem after installing slackware 13, that I can not run someexecutable files as easily as before in 12.2.Here is an example:
hwang@hwang:~$ ls -l
total 36
drwxr-xr-x 2 hwang users 4096 2010-04-24 23:32 Downloads/

I recently had Pardus 2011 Installed and i moved a pile of files from my extra hard drive and cleaned it and moved files back onto it. The music files/folders wont show up on SlackWare but if i flip in a ubuntu live cd or run pardus they show up just fine. But here is the kicker. If i for example one of the cd's was a band from in town where i live. If i hash check the torrent so it is seeing if the files are on my computer to share. It will show them if you show directory and if you use Dolphin you cannot see them at all. Is there some kind of setting somewhere i have tried the action of showing hidden files.

All of the discussion about slackware and kde prompted me to rsync alien's kde 4.6 packages (thanks for these by the way!).Each directory contains the .txz packages and associated .asc (all same signature)and md5s.I want to avoid doing gpg --verify whatever.asc individually for multiple files. Likewise for md5sum -c whatever.md5.Can anyone tell me a nice way of running run gpg --verify and md5sum on all files in the directory? I have been playing with wildcards but can't get it right.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled slackware on my computer so that I could have the 64 bit version and take advantage of all the ram in this machine. Anyway I did a brand new install Slackware64 13.1 from the dvd. I omitted the KDE packages and instead installed Gnome via the GSB project. After all that installed with seemingly no problem I opened up Rhythmbox and imported all my music, but it won't play any of my m4a files. A little research showed that installing gst-plugins-bad would solve this. So I downloaded it and built it from source, no problems in the configuring it or making it. But the problem persists. Here's a list from slapt-get search for gst showing the gstreamer packages that are installed...
gst-ffmpeg-0.10.10-x86_64-2gsb [inst=yes]: gst-ffmpeg (GStreamer "ffmpeg" Plugins)
gst-plugins-bad-0.10.19-x86_64-1_SBo [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-bad (a set GStreamer plugins)
gst-plugins-base-0.10.29-x86_64-1 [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-base (base set of GStreamer plugins)
gst-plugins-good-0.10.22-x86_64-1 [inst=yes]: gst-plugins-good (good set of GStreamer plugins)
gst-python-0.10.18-x86_64-1gsb [inst=yes]: gst-python (GStreamer Bindings for Python)

I have a large directory tree with my ebooks and some of these files are zipped. I would like to move all of the zip files to another one so I can manipulate them. Since they are all scattered inside the tree, I would like to do it quickly and painfully with CLI. How should I proceed?

Has anyone gotten Songbird to play m4a files in Slackware? Is so, 'fess up! Songbird forums say this is possible in Linux with the right codec yet most in the forums, including me, fail. (There's also a plugin that doesn't work in linux.) All my other players handle m4a fine in Slackware 13, so I know I've got the proper codec.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a doubt wrt to installing "Q" files . I have cloned a repo from git ..Yesterday I tried to install Libre office using sbopkg..It began with the download and gave an error asking me to retry/abort or continue with the build due to some missing package..I presently have a folder "queues" in /var/lib/sbopkg..I also downloaded another repo and placed it another folder. The problem is that in SBOpkg it is picking up only from the queue folder in /var/lib/SBOpkg/Queues. I dont know how to point to the other folder in /home/downloads/queues/ (the second repo)..I thought of trying this as neither slackbuild or the first repo is working for installing libre office..The internet connectivity is ok!
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to get all of the multilib files from [URL]? I've tried:
1.) wget - won't use wildcards on an http server, and trying to get the whole folder just gets me index.html
2.) ftp - it's not an ftp server and I can't login anonymously via gftp. I wasn't expecting this to work, it was just something else to try.
3.) rsync - If this could work, I may not be using the right syntax. I tried (-n for a dry run first):
Code:
rsync -avn [URL]
And it just sat there doing nothing until I hit ctl-c.
Obviously I could download each file from my web browser but I figured there had to be a more elegant Unix-y way without all the clicky-clicky. Are the files hosted on an ftp server anywhere?
