Mar 24, 2011As the release of elite slackware is nearly there, I will order some stuff from the slackware store. Until now I plainly donated via paypal since in my opinion the shipping costs for software that can be acquired thru downloading is way to high: I rather support Pat than UPS.
Anyway: If there are dutchies that like to share the shipping costs, I'm willing to pay for the national distribution ones the stuff from the overseas arrives. Slackware :: NVidia Drivers And Kernel 2.6.33
Mar 2, 2010I know that current just pushed kernel 2.6.33 down, but has anyone been successful in building the nvidia drivers against this new kernel? I'm not having any success with the 190 driver and the 195 beta driver. There are some patches that I found on the nvidia forum, but so far, nothing is working.

Mar 13, 2009I updated fedora 10 a few days ago, by blindly installing every update available, and when i restarted, my nvidia drivers weren't loading, and I'm having an issue I had before, where the signal being sent to the monitor is out of frequency range. Basically when fedora tries to load its GUI, my monitor just goes blank. Before I could only fix it by plugging in a different (less tempermental) monitor, and messing around with the display driver.
I was wondering if there is a way to mess with the drivers from the command line. I really don't like switching out monitors, and i want to learn the skillz and such.
Fedora :: NVidia Drivers And Kernel Update
Jun 17, 2011I updated FC14 which included the kernel and also the nvidia drivers kmod. Then after a reboot the video driver wouldn't load. From another terminal I tried different things to fix it and didn't managed. I eventually erased all nvidia drivers so that I can get the default one. Now every time it boots I get a really low light. I can login, but can't see. It seems that the whole screens has about 5% light and I can't see to do anything. I managed now to boot into FC live CD for FC15 and I have light. For FC14 live CD it's the same no light problem.
I tried all older kernels to boot but I have the same problem. I am using PAE kernel and that's why I installed the kmod drivers. But now, since they are not anymore and I can't see anything, even though I am logged in I don't know what to do next. Is there something I can do from FC15 live cd? How can I go using the terminal to my harddisk and how to add the driver or any low graphic driver so that I can have light? After I did yum erase *nvidia* the light went almost off.

Ubuntu Installation :: NVIDIA Drivers Not Working After 11.04 Update?
Apr 28, 2011Tonight I upgraded to 11.04. Once I had finished the upgrade, I restarted my computer as it told me too. When I got past the ubuntu 11.04 (purple background orange dots), it simply went to the terminal and asked me to log in. I tried to restart the X server with "sudo service gdm restart" but no display popped up. I happened to have a few NVIDIA drivers in my downloads file also so I gave these a try, but the "install script" failed.
After all this I booted Ubuntu in graphic failsafe mode. I then decided to see what would happen if I removed the proprietary driver. Upon doing this and rebooting my Ubuntu booted into graphical mode "yay!".So without the Nvidia drivers I can finally see something other than terminal, but, I need those NVIDIA drivers for my work. So what can I do? I have tried installing the new NVIDIA linux drivers from the NVIDIA website,and have tried Installing the recommended driver via "additional drivers", but both have resulted in my being stuck in terminal.
Slackware :: Xorg Not Loading After Install Of Nvidia Drivers 270.41.19
Jun 1, 2011I am running slackware 13.37. I installed the newest NVIDIA drivers 270.41.19 and now impossible to load Xorg.
I get:

How I installed the new nvidia drivers:
- removepkg xf86-video-nouveau
- installed xf86-video-nouveau-blacklist-noarch-1.txz for blacklist the nv drivers
- run script nvidia
- run nvidia-xconfig
- reboot
The startx and black screen with errors messages mentioned above.
I run glxinfo | grep render and i get " Error: Unable to open display". Logical since no Xorg
I run dmesg | grep nvidia and I get all the required fields:
- NVIDIA taint kernels
- power state
- enabling device
- PCI INT A
- Setting latency
I have to manually copy the errors messages since my PC is not working.
When I run "find /usr/lib -name *.270.* " I do get the module Same thing when I run "find /lib -name nvidia.ko". I see the nvidia.ko module.

I've sort out the windows install, but cant get into ubuntu to update the drivers. It boots as far as console but just leaves me with the text screen. How do I update the drivers from there or get a basic console screen to come up so I can update?

Slackware :: Residual Windows After Installing NVIDIA Proprietary Drivers Thinkpad T510
Nov 18, 2010I just received my laptop this week and have been tweaking my laptop to acquire more stability. I just installed the NVIDIA proprietary drivers for the NVS 3100M chipset and I have a residual windows that wont disappear even after reboot. Even after reinstalling the NVIDIA driver it stays. Is there some way to flush the framebuffer?

Apr 8, 2010I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

Jul 13, 2010I installed Xubuntu the other night (completely wiped machine) and started doing all the updates on it. After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Is there a simple fix to change this and use the nVidia drivers as well?

Slackware :: Enable Windows Wireless Drivers In Slackware 13.1 And How To Install XFCE
Aug 22, 2010I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

My question is though I dont see many hardware manufacturers supporting SW, but I do see suse and redhat. How hard/possible is it to use redhat suse drivers for slackware? Can they be modified/rebuilt?
Im also considering buying a cheap server off ebay to use. Can someone let me know if any of the following would cause an issue with slackware?In particular the Adaptec sata raid controller which I want to run in raid 5.
General :: Live Cd With Nvidia Drivers?
May 12, 2010I work at a computer shop. I have been making ubuntu live cds for a couple years to help test hardware outside of whatever viruses and other crap software people have installed in their os. Generally I use remastersys to create the image. However, it removes all 3d video drivers, for good reasons which I understand.
Does anyone know of a similar program or a way to include the proprietary drivers on a live cd?
If you happen to have any other suggestions for troubleshooting linux live cd's as well I would be happy to hear them. Likewise, I would be happy to share any knowledge I have accumulated. I like to think my live cd is a pretty solid compilation of hardware diagnostics and utilities.
