Nov 16, 2009I have a server Linux/Centos 5.3 who I have formed it like server of data with samba for a network with 5 Windows XP terminals; desire to know if it is also possible to form this equipment like server anti-virus multiplatform so that it can look for virus (and clean) to the terminals win xp.
I was looking for by the network on this subject, but I have not had favorable results, please if somebody could help with some Link or tutorial me that has found.

Feb 21, 2011I am putting a php contact form on my webpage that sends messages directly from the page to my email address. This script has worked in the past, but unbeknownst to me that is because my previous server was running a mail transfer client that handled php's mail() function through smtp. The web server I am using now is a home machine configured with ubuntu running php/apache but there is nothing to handle mail. My contact form says the message has been sent, but it never arrives to my inbox.
Following forums, I installed sendmail and verified that smtp was running on port 25, but the form would then hang for over a minute upon submission(and messages still would not be delivered). I then tried exim4 as a mail transfer agent which solved the hanging, but messages still werent delivered. From my reading it appears this could have something to do with my hosts file, but I am unsure how this needs to be configured (pretty new to all this and I seem to have bitten off more than I can chew).
I eventually configured exim4 to use the smarthost feature for outgoing mail, using my gmail account's smtp server (following a tutorial). My exim log file produces no errors, but messages from my contact form still are not delivered. This has turned out to be a huge, hair tearing situation and I'm at a loss on what to do next.
Server :: Implement Email Alerts On Backup Scripts
Apr 28, 2011I have recently been asked by my boss to implement Email alerts on some Backup scripts to be sent to me and another person. I edited one of the Backup scripts on a mail server and they appear to be working without problems (i.e., the backup job runs successfully and I get told so via E-Mail). However, when I implemented this script onto another, non-mail server, it would not send E-Mail confirmations. The only server that is allowed to send Emails to the outside world is the mail server, so I did not expect the script to work without any fine-tuning.
However, I thought I could direct the non-mail server to send an E-Mail through the mail server. I just can't find out how to do it. The servers are running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. The mail server is using postfix and dovecot for email, and is also the DNS server for that particular network section. The non-mail server should be installed with the default server install (exim4). If possible, I do not want to install any new programs on either server. How to get the non-mail server to use the mail server to send out E-Mails?

I have a machine running CentOS 5.3 64bit and I have unlimited access to this machine, but I don't want to reach it physically.
Is it possible to install and maintain a virtual medium using ssh or other remote connection?
When I installed the OS I have selected the packets regarding the virtualization, but now from where can I start?

I am new to git (and storing multiple copies of my code).
I was using git for one month (git status, git add, git commit) to store my files.
I have problems to add more files to my branch
git add BasisExpansion.R
fatal: Unable to write new index file
this was working great unless the day my system administrator destroyed my main partition (it was an accident) and installed everything from scratch. My home directory stayed intact (I did not lose any files not git files that are stored under /home). But from this point of time git returns always that error. My system administrator creater the same user and group as my old user was but this didnot fix the problem.
I am not sure If I can recover my old git structure or would it be better to wipe out the old git dir and start a new one?

I had thought that host and the name lookup routine would use the same DNS server and it should fail on the host command as well as the ping, but evidently not.
Ubuntu Networking :: NAS Server - Cannot Resolve Non DNS Names
Feb 14, 2010I have a NAS server running Debian with Dnsmasq (local DNS and DHCP service). This is working well, including fetching upstream requests from my ISP's DNS service and caching them locally. I have another PC not running Ubuntu which happily resolves DNS and non-DNS names. E.g.

both work.
However, this is not the case on my Ubuntu PC. It is only able to resolve DNS names, not non-DNS names.

We can also send emails out to other domains.I have recently configured BIND 9.3.6 on the same server (running CentOS) that is running our mail server. The purpose is to make sub domain dynamically without getting domainit involved. These subdomains will have incoming and outgoing emails as well. For example, I would want to make a usable subdomain "xyz" under abc and have kazmi@xyz.abc.mobi email address.
I have configured abc.mobi.hosts file as follows

CentOS 5 Server :: DNS Does Not Resolve Names Except To Localhost
Feb 9, 2010We installed CentOS 5 at our school and are attempting to get 2 simple DNS servers online. These are simple name resolution servers for our network. We installed the needed caching nameserver packages via Yum and all seems to be well, but for some reason when the server is online, it fails to resolve DNS records except when we direct the requests to its 127.0.0.1 (localhost) interface. As for the server specs, the DNS server is running on a Virtual Machine, and the ESXi server has 2 quad-core Xeon CPU's with 48 Gigs of RAM (in short.. hardware is adequate.)
Here's more details:
When the box boots up, we can confirm that the named service is running and it resolves DNS records when we direct queries to its localhost address:

I still can't find my domain I configured cant ping on other machines on the LAN but can actually ping on any other website on the internet even though name server is configured to point to local machine..... So far my search has yielded no results. It would not be that big of a deal as I could always look at the dhcp file, but it is generated dynamically (3rd party application using RADIUS and each user gets a host).
