I am using samba t share my files.I am sharing /media/MEDIA folder. it is a ntfs partition mounted with ntfs-3g with write/read access from linux.I can see and browse my shares and also create files in the root of this partition, ie /media/MEDIA, but in its subfolders i do not have write permissions.
another interesting thing is that i have permission to create directory and delete files everywhere and in any folder, subfolder but when trying to create files i get not enough free disk space error.by the way i dont know if this config file is correct, i find as template in internet.

I installed Samba on CentOS, create a principal share called "public" . I want to populate this share with subfolders, and to grant access rights to specific folders for specific users. The content of "public" will be visible for all Samba users, but they will have read/write access only to the specified subfolders based on my security policy. I need the best way for doing this kind of stuff...

I have a linux box that I'm using to mount a windows 7 share with samba or cifs. The mounting itself goes fine, but directories with more subdirs or files do not seem to have all the content they actually have.
For example, viewing my music folder shows only first 37 subdirs. The ls says "total 49", which is the correct amount, but the listing itself shows only 37 first in alphapetical order.
On the other hand, my wallpaper folder contains 122 files. Ls claims there is 41872 and displays only 70.
Adding the mount option noserverino increases the listed files or dirs, but it still does not show them all.
I've tried to enable debug printk level, but dmesg doesn't show anything interesting.
I've tried to change values in /proc/fs/cifs, but it does not seem to have any effect.
I've tried changing samba package. So far I've tested with 3.5.7, 3.5.2, 3.5.4 and now 3.5.8.
My distribution was yesterday slackware 13.1. Today I upgraded to 13.37 (with samba 3.5.8) but the problem persists.
I've tried with kernel versions 2.6.35.12, 2.6.38.2 and 2.6.37.6.

I started to use mailboxes instead of maildirs on my server. My server is with imapd on slackware.I found out that by Thunderbird I just cannot create sub-folders in my imap directory. My users used to manage their mails into hierarchically organized subfolders.

I have a mail server running ubuntu 9.04 w/ the default setup (for the most part): Postfix + Dovecot + SSL. I generally use Ubuntu 9.10 as the client machine running evolution. I have a myriad of subfolders to the inbox on the server that I created in Evolution. Occassionally I do connect using another machine and use IMAP. In one instance I use the Windows 7 I have on the same machine (dual boot) and access the server. Most of the server's sub-folders are not visible but many are.

I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

I'm using the "Beginning PHP5, Apache, MySQL Web Development" book from WROX to teach myself these processes. I'm a retired programmer and trying to keep my brain active. I've been able to get through most of the process and get things to work. But getting a picture upload and then display it is killing me. The picture is moved from the initial directory and placed in the destination but will not show on the web page, I get a place holder and all the information about the picture, but no pic. The MySQL is processing all the database stuff .I haven't a clue what is not working, Firefox, Apache or what. I'm running Fedora 14.
Here is the code I'm using:
Code:
upload_image.php

But is there any way to display a different web page or message when we have brought down the Apache Server for maintenance so that a visitor on our web site would not think that we are gone with our bags and baggages...?

I have a png file which I put into a user's directory: /~user/file.png This displays OK. When placed in the user's images directory: /~user/images/file.png the file does not display. If I put the file in the global images directory: /images/file.png the file displays OK. Finally if I change the format of the file to a jpg and save it in the user's images directory: /~user/images/file.jpg the file displays OK.
When I look at the Apache access_log and error_log files, there is not even an entry if the png image file is accessed from the user's images directory.

I have virtual servers set up and have the files stored at /home/cusinndzl. If anyone needs to take a look I can let them into the webmin panel.

I have a weird problem I am experiencing with my Apache 2.2 w/ ISPConfig 3 running on Debian 5.0.4. It is not a website html issue.***PROBLEM***Images are not beind displayed, javascripts are not being run, however when the site is viewed from a local source as a file(like on a USB Flash Drive) they work fine and display properly. Here is the website URL:I have removed a lot of the images and content or changed it in order to troubleshoot it myself, so the site is stripped pretty bare. There is supposed to be a logo inside the "header" <div>, which is set in the CSS file "style.css". There are supposed to be images for navigation, but they show up as red "x"'s. I removed the javascript elements and just trying to work with barebone html/css and can't seem to get it to display properly.

How to device-mapper multipathing in conjunction with fdisk. I am more of a solaris expert and now trying to grasp linux (red hat). I have a server that I plan to cluster (future assignment) which is attached to a Netapp SAN via emulex LPe11002 HBA. I have 8 paths to the LUN I created and I can see the multipath device (/dev/mapper/mpath1). Below is my multipath.conf file:
[Code]....
Question 1: When I look at fdisk -l, I can see all 8 paths to the same LUN. Although I partition /dev/mapper/mpath1, I can still see that 7 of the 8 still say "Disk /dev/sdX doesn't contain a valid partition table". I would think that all 8 would have this removed. I execute '/usr/sbin/lpfc/lun_scan all' and it doesn't work. I am looking to clean this up...what should I do? It seems weird to have to do it to all 8 paths!
Question 2: Why does my alias, 'db' not show up under /dev/mappers?
Question 3: Is there a way for fdisk -l to display one lun rather than displaying all 8 paths to the lun?
What is the standard procedure (commands) people execute when adding a new lun to a server with multipathing so it is nice and clean?

I'm running OpenSuse 10.3 and I've tried to set permissions on my folder and subfolders from root:root to wwwrun:www. In the shell it shows all folders and files with the correct permissions, but in the GUI it still says root:root and so my web application can't write to it, until I manually set the subfolders permission in the GUI.

Let's say I want to get the size of each folder of a linux file system. When I use ls -la I don't really get the summarized size of the folders. If I use df I get the size of each mounted file system but that also doesn't help me. And with du I get the size of each subfolder and the summary of the whole file system. But I want to have only the summarized size of each folder within the ROOT folder of the file system. Is there any command to achiev that?

I want to list my folders and subfolders (recursive) and also show the size of the files in terminal. I started using this:
Code:
ls -h -R > /test.txt
I got everything but not the size of the folders.
Then I tried this:
Code:
du -h --max-depth=1 > test.txt
Suppose to show me everything, but I can't see subfolders. And this command do not accept recursive. How can I show the size of the files and folders like the second command, but including the subfolders?
