Security :: PDFs Are AES Cipher-able As Of The Acrobat 7 Spec- Any GNU Tools To Handle It?
Jun 6, 2011
I've been using pdfTk to encrypt PDFs for distribution to unsophisticated users (that is, users without PGP keys or the will to get one). RC4 encryption, although reasonably adequate for my use, is relatively insecure. I would be more comfortable with AES. Have any gnu tools emerged that implement AES within a PDF container?
I have had for a test installed Feodora but was so silly checking the box for encryption the HD. Now I tested all for removing Feodora (no data anymore on the disc) but even the test unlocking this from my ubuntu system failed with the following error:Error unlocking device: cryptsetup exited with exit code 251: Command failed: Failed to setup dm-crypt key mapping.Check kernel for support for the aes-xts-plain64 cipher spec and verify that /dev/sdb2 contains at least 508 sectorsI installed some encryption packages in the meantime - but non was helpful.Would some kind person - who understands this better than I - please provide the detailed steps needed to mount and unlock the encrypted Feodora installed hard disc. Maybe one of you know which packege I have to install.
Ubuntu 9.04 and a Konica 2430 DL on USB. I can get a Ubuntu test page from the printer management screen (printout says GPL. Postscript version 3010 revision 864) and I can print from Firefox. I cannot print PDFs from either Acrobat or Evince. The print jobs show up as completed in the print jobs list.
how to configure my security. Upon install from the disc, the dialog asks for "automatic login" I selected that and although it automatically logs in upon cold start, I'm asked constantly by the terminal for my password when making any changes or downloads from there. In addition, I'm asked by my other interfaces and settings programs for the password as well. Since this is a new system, there is much getting apps and changing settings, so to type in my password 3 times every 5 minutes becomes annoying and time consuming.
So what I'd like is a pointer to a "how to" which tells me how to adequately deal with all these requests and typing in my password to a configuration which is comfortable for me. I'd like to be able to just sit down and turn on my computer and do whatever I want without having to deal with passwords at all "except online". I'm the only user this system.
how efficient and effective are these snort, argus, ossec etc etc for an organization having 3500 PC Network, connected through 700+ Cisco Devices (Layer 2 and Layer 3), and scattered on 130 different sites (geographically)? what should be the combination of products and what should be the architecture for an efficient forensics activity?
Anyone know if the collection of STD tools have been included in Fedora repositories? Would love to recreate a STD disk based off of F12+ live cd and those tools. (Knoppix Secuity Tools Disk that seem to have died out a couple years back) Great tools, just the distro doesnt support new hardware....but if in a F12+package......all would be good.
It seems the fingerprint reader is detected, and several related packages are installed, but I can't find any tools available to either set it up. or activate it for use.
Quote: The importance of security should never be underestimated. The consequences of losing data can be disastrous for any organisation. For example, the loss of a single unencrypted laptop may have huge repercussions. This could include breaching data protection legislation with the risk of a significant fine, a loss in the confidence of an organisation, as well as the risk that sensitive data may fall into the hands of a competitor or third party with malicious intent.
I have already developed file type filtering functions through squid. Now I want to deal with content filtering aspects... What tools are available there for so in linux?
iam working on mail server in redhat centos. i want to know how to secure my mail server for heavy loading , any monitoring tools in GUI or console , is any essential tool which is used in Like MNC for mail server..
i know few command in like top, netstat, etc through google but i willing to know some more
I am currently running a 64-bit Fedora 14 server which hosts a game server, a voice server, and remote desktop functionality, each on a distinct TCP port. I am currently using the built-in firewall to deny all traffic other than ICMP ping/pong and TCP traffic on those specific ports.I am looking for a graphical application which will let me monitor any connections being made to my server in order to keep an eye out for possible security concerns. To be more specific, I'd like to be able to see the source IP addresses, TCP/UDP ports, and individual bandwidth in use by external connections being made to the server, along with any other information that might be helpful in identifying a possible intrusion attempt.
I have been setting up multiple security system in the area and was wondering what was the easiest way is to get the camera information that one would need in setting up survellance systems like zoneminder. I use xawtv for testing and
PHP Code: zmu -d <device_path> -q -v
But how can I get specific information about NTSC/PAL cameras or IP cameras. In other words is there a specific tool for that purpose? I can see my video cameras fine using xawtv -c /dev/video but can I look at those log files to see what setting it used for the cameras
Is there a firewall installed and running in 10.04? If so are there any gui tools for configuring it and where are they? If there is not a firewall, what should I install to get one properly up and running?
software to use against Intrusion and such. The thing is that I don't want to have several anti virus programs running at the same time due to collision.
I am searching that how i can configure syslogs/rsyslog to receive third party tools or softwares logs. For example i have a program that generates logs like when it is started and logs about its services, alerts if there are any alarms etc. I want to forward these logs using syslogs/rsyslog. Is their any possibility how can i achieve that
i have a program which have to encrypt data by using a symmetric block cipher with cbc encryption mode . it seems, that the IN data length must be a multiple of the cipher block length. is there a possibility to advice libgrypt to do the padding of the IN buffer automatically or must i do this manually? in case of manual padding: what is the recommended strategy to perform high security? fill with zeros or random numbers
I'm trying to figure out why Apache is ignoring SSL Cipher statements when placed inside a Virtual Host. Specifically I'm trying to disable SSLv2 and only allow SSLv3 or TLSv1
In httpd-ssl.conf I have the following
Code:
And when I try and connect, I get the expected results.
Quote:
In my virtual host statement I have
Code:
The only difference between the two is the httpd-ssl.conf has -ALL in the CIPHER, and the virtual host entry has ALL. However if I try and change the ALL statement in the virtual host entry to -ALL I get the following error in my logs & get no content.
Quote:
Why it's not working in the virtual host statement? Unfortunately as many of you are probably aware it's impossible to gain PCI certification with SSLv2 enabled.
How do you find what typs of crypto ciphers are supported.? I've dumped out /proc/crypto, which lists out a bunch of types, but none of the names listed seem to work. So far I have only got a couple types to work, the default(when I don't supply cryptsetup any cipher type) aes-cbc-plain and aes-ecb.
Since I don't even see aes-cbc-plain in /proc/crypto
I'm trying to set up a Fedora 11 server so that users have only SFTP access. The relevant lines from my "/etc/ssh/sshd_config" are:
[Code]....
I can log in okay, I can type "cd /" and "cd upload", but when I try an "ls" command, I get: Couldn't get handle: Permission deniedand when I try to get the file "junk" (listed above), I get: Couldn't stat remote file: Permission deniedAnyone know what I'm doing wrong?
This package contains tools to manage Debian based XEN virtual servers.
Using the scripts you can easily create fully configured Xen guest domains (domU) which can be listed, updated, or copied easily.
Homepage: [url] in the above output I am getting a line Conffiles and then you can see a series of /etc what are that and is it an error or some conflict?
I had a pretty much standard installation according to some tutorial (I don't remember, which one) for courier, including ssl. After upgrading from Wheezy (7) to Jessie (8) everything continued working fine, excep ssl connections to pop or imap.
In the log I get this error message while connecting to imapd-ssl:
--- no peer certificate available --- No client certificate CA names sent --- SSL handshake has read 7 bytes and written 341 bytes --- New, (NONE), Cipher is (NONE) Secure Renegotiation IS NOT supported Compression: NONE Expansion: NONE ---
TLS over STARTTLS is also not working and does not invoke a log-entry. So I want to solve the ssl-problem first. I guess the STARTTLS-problem is automatically solved then.
My update procedure was:
Editing /etc/apt/sources.listapt-get updateapt-get upgradeapt-get dist-upgradeKeep all configuration files regarding courier.
