View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst of all I'm not a very experienced linux user, I have installed fedora 13 on my HP Laptop and it has 8Gb installed, (confirmed in Bios) grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 3088492 kB It's less then 8Gb
googling about it it seems that I ineed PEA support for my kernel. It seems that fedora 13 should install this if needed, correct me if I'm wrong. uname -a Linux mjohanss-pc.kentor.se 2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686 #1 SMP Fri Jul 23 17:27:40 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux If PEA support was installed I think PEA should be seen after .fc13.i686 in the output. How can I install and configure PEA support so all my memory is recognized?
I have a small laptop that came pre-loaded with Windows 7. It's an HP dm3-1030US. I would like to run Ubuntu 10.04 on it. It's a small laptop with a 13.3" screen and no CD/DVD so there's no room for a second HDD and I don't want to dual boot "Too many issues" and I don't have the Windows disk in case anything gets messed up. I have run Ubuntu from a Supertalent 16GB SLC thumb drive but ran out of room after a few updates. Does anyone have experience using a 32GB SDHC SLC for Ubuntu? I'am looking at this one: [URL].

How big should an LVM volume be to hold a single 32GB file? I thought 33GB would be enough, but apparently not. A volume has run out of space. There are 2 identical volumes holding identical sized files (kvm virtual hard drives in raw format). One (ic030) is showing zero free space and one is showing 97% full. I guess the discrepancy is caused by journalling, directory structure information etc. Possibly also sparseness. How do I calculate the worst-case maximum required LVM volume size? i.e. assuming no sprseness and maximum journal size etc. Here's some info from the file system. (I have removed other volumes form the listings.) The volumes are formatted with ext3.

I purchased a FREECOM 1,5TB external USB-HDD and find out that there was FAT32 as FS. I windos there are not posasible to make bigger FAT32-partition than 32GB. I wan't to have windos-FS to use my work and on my freinds computers.Do you think I could format to NTFS or keep the FAT32? I don't have any big files.

Weird behaviour I should mention is that when I check for NULL pointer in node->child[index], the unassigned values are not null anymore, they point to arbitary memory.
we found that if we use 'top' to show the memory usage of a server (SuSe Linux 10), we can get virtual memory usage as well as 'Resident memory' usage. For virtual mem or a particular process, it is around 1.1GB, which is large but for resident memory, it only consumes 300MB. Are there anyone who knows what the differences are? I would also like to know whether the difference (1.1GB - 300MB) = 800MB are actually available for use by other applications in the system.

However, using several tools (free -m; top; dmesg | grep Memory; grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo I discovered that I actually have 3Gb, not 4... But, my doubt comes from the fact that dmesg | grem Memory tells me I have 3103396k/4194304k available The first number is effectively 3Gb, but the second one, is 4! so, why I am looking at this two different numbers?

But my problem is, I am unable to find any place which gives a sequence of steps or commands to follow which will help me install this... Can you please guide on how i can go about this
1: Did chkconfig --level 12345 iptables off (and ip6tables too)
2: Did system-config-firewall and unclicked enable
