i got a sample.c which generate a linked list for sorting according to the number generated. then i want to split the sorting function into a header file. and it looks like the sort function in the header file could not access the linked list in the main. the error is dereferencing pointer to incomplete type

I wrote a shell script and was able to compile it using SHC. after that i copied it to the /bin folder and tried running it as a normal user, but i keep getting the error " operation not permitted killed "
I tried changing the permissions. but it doesn't work. it only works with sudo. there must be another way. otherwise it won't be linux right?

It's kind of pointless imo for the types of errors that Exiv2 reports on to be written to a text file without some reference to the name of the file that prompted the error message in the first place. Is there a way to have bash identify the file that prompts the error and writes its name to the same file as the error (in my case, frencherrors.TX)?I've tried a painfully simple syntax that does something identical to a 2>&1 'suffix", namely frenchgentsfinder.sh 2 $file>>frencherrors.TX. It makes sense to me as written, but I'd like to know why I'm getting nothing on screen and everything directed to the file when what I want to see in the latter are the filenames causing the errors along with the text of the errors.
Is there another level one has to bore down into before they can garner this kind of output? If so, what is it and how does one invoke it in bash?

I have 3 files: main.c, mylib.h, mylib.c Now I want to put mylib.h into : /usr/include/mydir/mylib.h And I create a static library: libmylib.a, and put into the folder: /usr/lib/mydir/libmylib.a Then I compile: $ gcc -o main main.c Then I got linking error
Code:
main.c:(.text+0x3e): undefined reference to `extract_v1'
main.c:(.text+0x7b): undefined reference to `modify_v1'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
So I try with -l options: $ gcc -o main main.c -lmylib I still got error
Code:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmylib
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Any idea about this?
Also, I want to ask about: how to create my own header and library to put into /usr/include/mylib/ and /usr/lib/mylib/, so when I use function in my program, the compiler will automatically link to library. It's like when you #include <stdio.h>, and you compile: $ gcc -o program program.c, you don't need to specify any linking folder or library.

I need to know the header file used at 'c' to support openoffice writter at REDHAT4. I plan to write a c++ program for something like spellbee game. so instead of giving a txtfile which has a list of words as a source for the game I decided to use some header file. My assumptions are: Since the redhat4 is written through the "C" language and as well as the openoffice writter which is a supporting package at this os too might have the linker right. At openoffice writter we have the spellcheck feature which might had a source from where it checks the words whenever we type something at openoffice writer. So is it possible to use those header file or linkage source at my c++ spellbee game program instead off creating the list about few bunch of words.

I'm having a CentOS 4.4 X86_64 server. Without any warning all users account including root got disabled. As the server was still logged in as root, i was able to enable all the users account. But for root i couldn't.Without thinking i rebooted the server and except root, other users can log in to the server. I should've tried to enable root account from the /etc/passwd. But now i realize its too late for that.Now i want to change from root: x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/false to root: x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash. Can anyone guide me to accomplish this or is there any other way to fix this?

My install of 11.4 has been running perfectly for for several weeks now. But- (always a but) today it started acting up. I cannot log in to any user account including Root after logging out. After a cold boot I can log in again anywhere but after logging out I have to reboot again then I can get back in to any account once. After logging out any attempted log in causes the splash screen to blank for a few seconds and then it comes back with the previous successful user name log in but typing in the password blanks the screen a few seconds again. Clicking on a user account also blanks the screen a few seconds and then it again comes back with the previous log in users name.

I have 2 minor issues, 1, this script can only run once, from the defualt configuration files. if the config files are previously modified, this script will fail. So how can i fix it so that the line specifying port in the ssh_config file can be read and rewriten to numerous times.
I have alot of echo type commands. how can I neaten that up?

The question is what is the syntax to the cameras ipaddress via http passing the u/n and p/w at the same time as part of the http string? I have tried the web page: [URL] .... to no avail, i must be missing something pretty obvious but just can't see it for looking.

I'm trying to make my program as small as possible. Currently it's down to 17.8 KB, but I'd like to get it smaller (I know, I'm insane). Is there a way to not use the "#include" directive to include the entire header, but rather to just load only the stuff I need? For example, I just want to include 'sprintf' and 'printf' from stdio.h, not the entire header. Is this possible? Or am I misunderstanding some fundamental element here?

Say, I have a header file containing all required includes:
Code: /* global.h */
#include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>
...
#include <dirent.h>
#include <signal.h>
... /* and so on */
I have several modules in a program (*.h *.c files) and in each *.h I include global.h, then they are included in corresponding *.c files. And I receive strange messages from compiler, like a "warning: implicit declaration of function fdopendir", "error: expected declaration specifiers or '...' before 'siginfo_t' ", "error: 'DT_DIR' undeclared..." though these types, functions and constants are all declared in system headers. What does it mean?... Compiler is GCC 4.4.4-2, system is Fedora 13 x86_64

i'm practicing in very basic c programs using the gcc compiler.I found that when i create two variables let's say
Code:
int a,b and Code: a=15;
b=3;
a=b;
b--;
then a equals 2.I thought that this isn't normal in C isn't it?I haven't had the time to read the gcc documentation yet...so i think it has something to do with my compiler's default settings.I use the
Code: gcc filename.c -o filename command to compile
Are all variables defined like pointers?

I converted my programming project over to autotools, which gives me a config.h file with all the cool definitions, like these ones:
Code:
/* Location of data files. */
#define DATADIR "/usr/local/share"
/* Define to the full name of this package. */
#define PACKAGE_NAME "lusus"
And naturally I think this is cool because then I can hardcore these into the binary. To my dismay, however, I discovered that the pre-processor does not do the text-substitution if the macro name is inside another quoted string.
Code:
// Prints out "/usr/local/share/lusus"
std::cout << DATADIR << "/" << PACKAGE_NAME << "
";
[code]....
This seems lame, because then this doesn't work:
Code:
CL_Image leaves_corner_tl(gc, "DATADIR/PACKAGE_NAME/img/leaves_corner_tl.png");
So, am I literally going to have to strcat DATADIR/PACKAGE with the other text every time I want to prefix DATADIR/PACKAGE_NAME onto another string?

/bin/python is 2.3.4
/usr/local/bin/python is 2.7.1
I have a script running 2.3.4 which calls the 2.7.1 script however it fails because it cannot find the "set" command here is an example
Script1
#!/bin/python
import Mytest
[code]....
The error message is :

I found an interesting screencast online about how to make gtk Pyton apps. The thing is, though, the guy was using the interactive shell. I've been trying to get his code into a script, and have been having troubles.
Here's what I got:
Code:
It spits out the error "NameError: global name 'browser' is not defined"
I know I'm doing something wrong with how I'm telling it where to find "browser" and "text", but I can't figure out how to point it to the right place.
