Debian Programming :: Using Glib To Create Menu File

May 12, 2015

I am using GTK and C and on my application I have a Drag and drop feature.

Code: Select allicon_view = gtk_icon_view_new_with_model(create_and_fill_model(pALP));
   g_object_unref(pALP->list_store);      /* destroy model automatically with view */
   gtk_icon_view_set_selection_mode(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), GTK_SELECTION_SINGLE);
   gtk_icon_view_set_reorderable(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), TRUE);
   gtk_icon_view_set_text_column(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), COL_DISPLAY_NAME);

[Code] ....

The drag and drop works fine but when I exit the application and enter again, the changes of the drops are not saved, meaning the new location is not saved. I understand that in order to save the location of the drops I need to create a menu file and write some xml, But how do I do this? it there another way?

Fedora :: Desktop Selection Menu Missing?

Feb 7, 2011

Have downloaded Fedora 14 (64-bit Gnome) and installed KDE so I'd have the option of both desktops.

However, I'm unable to change from one desktop to another - from what I've read, there's meant to be a drop-down menu at the login page allowing you to select the desktop but I don't have one.

I am a beginner with Fedora (mostly used Ubuntu in the past few years, but figure it's time for a change) so I may be missing something obvious.

Not sure it's relevant in this case but specs: Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI 4850, 4gb ram, 320gb HD.

Debian :: Jessie - Zsh In Tmux / Tab Menu Selection Stopped Working

Jun 29, 2015

I installed Jessie (8.1.0) and encountered a problem which is non-existent in Wheezy (7.8.0).

My shell is zsh and I use tmux both installed from packages, I use this zsh feature that when you type "ls /" and then hit "Tab" twice, it will present you a menu where you can select the directory you want navigating the menu with the arrow keys. It works fine out of tmux (in bare shell) but stopped working inside a tmux session. In bare shell you hit Tab twice and get into the menu, in tmux you hit Tab twice and it displays the table of suggestions but just keeps cycling suggestions (cycling directory names) and not sending me to the menu.

Here's some screenshots:

1) Working (no tmux): I hit tab twice and got in the menu.

2) Not working (in tmux): I hit tab twice and it just cycled directory names after "/"

t isn't in my config file, I tried without my .tmux.conf (with tmux set to default settings) and it still had no effect.

Debian Hardware :: USB Keyboard Not Working (No BIOS Or Grub Menu Selection)

Sep 15, 2014

I have Debian Jessie 8.0 amd-64 installed. It is a dual boot system with Widnows 8.1 alongside. Both the systems work fine with a few glitches coming at times on jessie. But I assume it should get stabilised with time.

Problem is:

The usb keyboard is no longer detected until the GRUB stage crosses.

* This implies I am unable to press F2 to enter into BIOS
* I am unable to chose Windows 8.1 by using arrow key on the keyboard.

When the default system (first in the grub list), in this case Debian is selected after time runs out then the keyboard comes back to life and works properly thereafter.

So far I have tried the possible solution given at [URL] .... but it did not work.

Some Information
================

Fedora :: Right-click The Result Is The Automatic Selection Of The Option In The Context Menu?

I'm a Fedora user, and recently I switched from KDE to Gnome. Since then I'm experiencing a nerve-wracking problem when I use the right-click. Almost every time when I right-click the result is the automatic selection of the option in the context menu which is at the same level as the cursor. This happens more than 50% of the cases. Is that normal in Gnome or am I the only one that experiences this kind of problem?

Software :: Create A Multi Boot Usb Flash Drive That Has Two Iso's

Jan 19, 2010

I'm trying to create a multi boot usb flash drive that has two iso's one with a Oracle (redhat) 5 update 3 32 bit install DVD and one with the 64 bit DVD. I've been searching for awhile and it looks like pendrivelinux.com had the easiest that just throws a grub boot loader on the usb with a menu.lst. Of course like most utilities there are no examples for any redhat on there and seeing how I'm not booting to an iso of an install i'm trying to boot to the install dvd i'm not having very much luck. Any thoughts of how my menu.lst entries should look. Or if you have an easier way let me know. I'd like to stick with ISO as anytime we update to a newer version i can just swap iso's. Here's an example they have in their for ubuntu. Obviously things like the .iso and vmlinuz location i've got but all that stuff after the vmlinux i'm clueless on.

title Boot Ubuntu 9.10
find --set-root /ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso
map /ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso (0xff)

Programming :: MySQL - Get A Random Selection Of An Ordered Data Set

Jan 11, 2011

Given the following data structure: Quote:

[Code]...

What is the minimum possible MySQL query to get a random data selection that includes each Index number only once and ordered ascending. The maximum index number is known. For example running the query should get the following data: 01, 06, 07, 02. Running the query again, you may get the same data or another possible combination like: 01, 05, 07, 04. Of course you could run a loop for 1 to max_index and process a random ordered data selection until the next index number is found. But I think this will result in too many database access. Also you could run max_index queries to get all IDs that correspond to the given index and randomly select one ID for each index.

Firstly im a linux newbie so try and bear with me, and make any advice clear anywho Ive been running ubuntu for a while on a single partition. Ive read the advantages of this and would now like to set ubuntu up in a similar fashion, alongside arch. Whats the 'best' way to do this. Can ubuntu use the partitions set up by arch? Will i have to reinstall ubuntu? eh i dont know if my question makes sense since its late here and its a topic i know little about. Programming :: VTALRM In Multi-threaded Programs?

Apr 20, 2011

I ran into an inconsistency in handling timers (VTALRM) between AMD and intel platforms with threads. My understanding was that the timers are per process. I discovered I must call setitimer in the thread on intel though. AMD allows me to make the setitimer call once in the main thread as expected. The code below demonstrates the issue. I must add the code in the INTEL define for it to work properly on intel cpu's. Am I missing something dumb??

Programming :: Will Multi-Threading Improve Performance?

May 18, 2011

So I have built a program that takes a picture from two cameras every second and converts them both to jpeg format. The problem is that currently it takes ~2 seconds to convert a single raw photo to jpeg format, thus every second I add another raw photo (30 MB) to ram waiting to be converted to jpeg. So, theoretically the conversion to jpeg is running on a single core with hyperthreading, would I see better performance running the exact same process (a program pulling from a queue and converting to jpeg) running as a single process, or two concurrent processes? (both processes running on the same core, (so 1 thread on one clock cycle, the other on the other... (or one thread running on 1 core and the other on another core. What other steps would you take to improve the performance so there would no longer be a race condition?

Programming :: Multi Dimensional (3 Array) In Python

I do a lot of scientific work - mainly in C/C++ but want to do some of the calcs in python, however I am finding it a problem with the lack of dimensionality. I frequency have a list of n particles and a multi-dim array for each particle and want to be able to access directly any component with ease. How best to go about this...

my prop = [n][x][y][z]

I might need a particular value and then to update that. I do not want to have to deal with lists etc etc as this feels rather cumbersome, adding, removing etc. There must be an easy way.
