Programming :: Mac Hangs On Both Firefox 3 And Safari?

Jan 19, 2010

So I wrote a function in a class that logs the user in:

public function UserLogIn($username,$password){
if (!isset($username) || !isset($password)) {
header(Location: ../dev/index.php);
}

[Code]....

I've tested it on Linux (Ubuntu and Debian) and it works perfectly on Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5 on those two distributions. On Mac however, it hangs on both Firefox 3 and Safari. I have also tested it on Windows using Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3. why it hangs on Mac?

Software :: OS X - Xmarks Supports Safari On Mac?

Jan 11, 2010

Google suggests that the latter, Mac software running on Linux, isn't possible. However, it also returns results that haven't changed for some time, which is why I'd like to know if anything has changed since then. Namely, Safari. Despite only having used an actual Mac once, I like Safari, and so far have the Windows version working fine under Wine. However, one of the things stopping me using it more is add-ons. In Firefox, I use Xmarks. Xmarks supports Safari - on a Mac. To my knowledge, this is no Windows Safari version. So, if I can't run it on the Windows version for now, what I want to do is run the Mac one instead, and use it there, if possible. I suspect neither is actually possible, at least for now. But it's always nice to have confirmation.

Ubuntu :: Hangs While Flashplayback In Firefox?

May 8, 2010

My ubuntu 10.04 hangs often when I watch flv videos on firefox. The whole thing just suddenly freezes, with no mouse/keyboard response, no background sound playback, no nothing.

It did so a few times in 9.10, but the upgrade seems to have made it more frequently than before.

My computer is a Acer Aspire One, with N270 core, Intel 945GME and 2GB mem.

Fedora :: Firefox Hangs Too Often With Other Tasks In The Background?

Apr 14, 2010

Ever since I preupgraded to Fedora 12 Firefox has been behaving annoyingly under certain circumstances. I guess the issue is not specific to Firefox, but just that it is the most obvious example. What happens is that whenever there is another program/process in the background using CPU heavily (burning a DVD, for instance) or doing heavy disk I/O (say, Filelight scanning the root folder) Firefox hangs for a few seconds about twice every minute. If I open System Activity during such hangs the Firefox process will report "disk sleep", as if it was paused by some process management mechanism which is prioritizing the background task. Since I never observed such behaviour under similar circumstances under F11, F10 or F8 I wonder if there could be any OS setting which was changed and triggered this change of behavior. I should mention the computer has a dual-core processor.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Firefox Hangs System

Jul 20, 2010

everything else seems well with my FC13-x86-64 except firefox (3.6.4 and earlier versions too) VERY frequently hangs the whole system. only the mouse still working, keyboard not responding to ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-function or any other key and even num-lock won't turn the led on. system is still remotely accessible through ssh so I can issue a reboot. same thing may have occurred with thunderbird but only once or twice and probably firefox was also running then. no problems so far with google chrome (but I have no flash plugin for that). FC5-x86-32 on my old PC has never had any of these problems.

Fedora :: Flash Hangs Firefox And Shows Nothing

Aug 20, 2011

I have upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15 (both 64 bit) today.

In F14, I had no problems watching flash movies.

After the upgrade, this fails. I have been through [URL] but still no luck.

Yes, I have ndiswrapper installed. Flash is the 32 bit version (64 bit version is still a bit scary to me, it being beta with known bugs). I can see the plugin in firefox. I have NO gnash installed.

OpenSUSE :: Firefox Hangs Due To Libproxy -> Pxgconf

Oct 11, 2010

Hi,

i have opensuse 11.3 and i am using gnome.

occasionally my firefox hangs. this is sometimes without any reason i see.
the only times i can nearly reproduce this, is when i directly open a PDF with evince. in this case a dialog-window opens, asking whether to download or open using evince. if i choose opening directly with evince, evince opens normally. however, then i am unable to close the dialog window of firefox witch makes firefox unuseable.

when firefox freezes like this, it has a child process called "pxgconf" open (seen in gnome-system-monitor). if i kill this pxgconf, firefox is usable again.

pxgconf seems to be in /usr/lib/libproxy and thus part of libproxy1-config-gnome-0.4.3-1.3.x86_64 package (i've validated all packages using rpm):

Code:
$ rpm -qa | grep libproxy
python-libproxy-0.4.3-1.5.noarch
libproxy1-networkmanager-0.4.3-1.3.x86_64
libproxy1-0.4.3-1.5.x86_64
libproxy1-config-gnome-0.4.3-1.3.x86_64
libproxy1-config-kde4-0.4.3-1.3.x86_64
libproxy1-pacrunner-mozjs-0.4.3-1.3.i586
libproxy1-networkmanager-32bit-0.4.3-1.3.x86_64
libproxy1-32bit-0.4.3-1.5.x86_64
(i don't know how to show package info with rpm, but the package-manager reports they all all from openSUSE-11.3-Oss)

my repos:

Code:
$ zypper lr
# | Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh
---+-------------------------+-------------------------+---------+--------
1 | NVIDIA Repository | NVIDIA Repository | Yes | Yes
2 | Packman | Packman | Yes | Yes
3 | Packman2 | Packman2 | No | No
4 | X11:Compiz | X11:Compiz | No | No
5 | lnussel | lnussel | No | No
6 | openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82 | openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82 | No | No
7 | repo-debug | openSUSE-11.3-Debug | No | No
8 | repo-non-oss | openSUSE-11.3-Non-Oss | Yes | Yes
9 | repo-oss | openSUSE-11.3-Oss | Yes | Yes
10 | repo-source | openSUSE-11.3-Source | No | No
11 | repo-update | openSUSE-11.3-Update | Yes | Yes
12 | vlc | vlc | Yes | Yes
i'm running firefox in thru strace now and directing all output to files, so next freeze hopefully there will be something valuable in there.

any other suggestions?

ps: i've already tested this with a new firefox profile, same result.

Fedora :: Flash Objects In Firefox - Hangs For 30 Seconds Or So

Aug 12, 2010

I'm having a few problems with flash objects in Firefox. When I load a page with flash - ..... for example - the flash object is just a grey box and firefox hangs for 30 seconds or so. When firefox finally responds again all that's left of the flash object is a black box. Does anybody know what the problem is? And even better - what I can do to fix it!

For background info - flash was working fine in F12 before I updated to F13. Used the install DVD for F13 to perform the update. I'm running F13 64bit with KDE, Firefox is showing Shockwave Flash in the addons list. Originally installed the flash plugin using the instructions from mjm wired:

Code:
[mirandam@charon Download]$ sudo yum install nspluginwrapper.{i686,x86_64} alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686
[mirandam@charon Download]$ sudo yum install flash-plugin I've tried removing those packages and reinstalling but no luck.

Ubuntu :: Adobe Flashplayer 10 - Firefox Freezes - Hangs For A While ?

Nov 17, 2010

I have a problem with Adobe Flashplayer 10. It seems to be incompatible with a countdown timer on a specific site. I use firefox and when I open the site firefox freezes , hangs for a while and then I get an Adobe flashplayer 10 error stating the script encountered a problem. This is how and know the problem is the adobe flash and I know it is with that countdown timer as it only started when that was added to the site. Obviously it is a compatibility problem as it doesn't hapen on my Windows pc.

My question is two parts: a. Is there another flash player I can try with Firefox and b. If yes How do I uninstall the Adobe Flashplayer and install the other one.

I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

Programming :: Multithreading Application Hangs

May 5, 2009

I have developed a proprietary multithreaded application using Qt library version 4.2.1 on RHEL 4 platform. The application communicates with different external interfaces using serial communication using well defined protocols. For each system I have a thread that handles data acquisition and processing, it sets an update flag which is read by the GUI thread to update GUI after specified number of seconds. The incoming data from external systems is processed and updated on GUI at certain intervals. Each system update rate on GUI is different. Generally it is 1 second. Their rate of sending data is different and is generally 1Hz, 5 Hz and 10 Hz. For systems with string data I have no issues. But some systems send raw data and I have to process every byte of the entire packet, for which I have to use for loops. Now my problem is if I keep the update rate of GUI for such systems less than a fixed number of seconds (which I have to calculate by hit and trial) the application hangs after sometime. I have tested this system exlusively by switching of all other systems and it hangs standalone.

This leads me to conclude that timing of GUI update is what is causing the application to hang. Also I read somewhere on the net that in multithreading application timers play an important role and slight variation in timing can lead to hung applications. As of now I have kept 5 seconds as the GUI update time and app runs fine. Can somebody suggest something else which might be the cause?Note that I have used mutexes, wait conditions and all necessary tools which are used in multithreading app. But it is only the timer on which I could pin down the issue.

Programming :: Debugging GTK + Programs Hangs The System?

Oct 28, 2010

A thread-aware version of gdb receives a system notification when a thread starts in the app it is debugging. GTK+ has hidden threads associated with loading icons into menus. So trying to debug a GTK+ program, even one that is apparently single-threaded, can produce a deadlock between gdb, the app and XWindows. The app (actually GdkPixbufLoader) grabs the focus, the mouse and the keyboard and then starts a thread when a menu is opened. If gdb has trouble with threads, it leaves the app blocked but still holding the mouse, et. al. Then you can't talk to gdb or any other GUI interface. To make gdb happy, all GTK+ apps need to be linked with -pthread, if you have the source. If not, gdb cannot be used. In order to break the deadlock, you need a non-GUI shell. If your /etc/inittab starts agetty, mingetty, or the like, and you can get to it with <CRTL><ALT><F3...F6>, you can do a kill -KILL <pid> on the offending app, recover and then go back to XWindows with <CTRL><ALT> <F1/F2>. Otherwise it's reboot time.

Programming :: BASH - Works On The Command Line, Hangs As A Script?

Jul 16, 2010

I'm writing a Bash script to take IPTC keywords from a text file and write them, via Exiv2, to several (first batch is 100) JPEG files in a single directory. The script has one while loop inside another while loop, both terminated, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem. I think it's how I'm incrementing the "counter" variable, although it could also be the method of parsing the text lines from the file (using cut with delimiters that have worked fine in simpler scripts).

Here's the code as I've worked it up to this point.

Code:

And yes, "keywords" checks out in Crimson Editor, Emacs GUI and nano as an ASCII file with UNIX line endings. No issues on that score.

Feeding each line consecutively into a terminal (excepting the exiv2 command) works fine: each variable echoes with the part of the text line used as a variable value as it should, even when the b variable is incremented the quick&dirty way (up arrow three commands and hit enter).

Running the above script in eval mode (sh -x) stalls after setting the b variable to one and reading in the first line of text. I'd like to know why. I'd also like some advice on another reliable method of parsing the read-in lines.

I've considered an approach involving an extension to Firefox, but this would require the user to install the said extension himself. Which is not something I want. Programming :: JavaScript - File Not Recognized As XML By Firefox

Feb 4, 2010

I'm loading an XML file stored in a tiny web server (based on lwip). This web server is not very cooperative and is not marking the http content-type as "text/xml". As result, Firefox is not recognizing the file as xml (IE does) so I can't use DOM methods for parsing the xml file. overrideMimeType("text/xml") should help me avoid this problem but, even having overrided the mymetype, the content-type received is still "text/plain". This is a portion of my JavaScript code:

Code:
var xmlObj;
// loadXMLdata is called from the html file
function loadXMLdata() {
var dataFile = window.location.href.substring(0, window.location.href.lastIndexOf("/") + 1) + "config/myfile.xml";
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xmlObj = new XMLHttpRequest();

// This should override the mimetype...
if (xmlObj.overrideMimeType)
xmlObj.overrideMimeType("text/xml");
xmlObj.onreadystatechange = fillXMLdata;
xmlObj.open("GET", dataFile, true);
xmlObj.send("");
} else {
alert("Your browser can not handle this script");
return; } }
// fillXMLdata is called from loadXMLdata once the xml object is ready
function fillXMLdata() {
if (xmlObj.readyState == 4) {
// Here Content-Type shows again "text/plain"
alert(xmlObj.getAllResponseHeaders());
var xmlDoc = xmlObj.responseXML.documentElement;
// And here section is null
var section = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("section")[0]; } }
The xml is quite simple:

Code:

1

2
