I have written a tiny script for kernel compilation, which call menuconfig and then compile the kernel. It is working fine. Now I like to test my environment and if it is shell menuconfig will be called and if X then xconfig will be called. How can I check the environment then?

When I put a "test" target in my Makefile containing

it tells me "CXX= g++".
But I have nothing in the Makefile assigning any value to CXX, and as far as I can tell I have no CXX environment variable (no "CXX" appears when I run the shell command "env", and "echo $CXX" returns a blank line. So where's the g++ value coming from. Is this just built into Gnu Make, or is there a configuration file for make somewhere?
Trying to mounts three cifs shares at boot up. I want to mount the shares under three different sub directories in the user's home directory:
share 1 mounted to /home/(insert username here)/movies
share 2 mounted to /home/(insert username here)/music
share 3 mounted to home/(insert username here)/software

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to to execute multiple programs on multiple remote machines. Each program needs to be run in a custom Environment that is not known at login time. Currently I am using ssh to connect and run the program.
My issue is that I'm not sure how setup all the Environment Variables that I need on the remote machine. I was able to write all the environment variables/values (NAME=VALUE) that I needed to a file and place on a shared file server (prog.environment). I thought the best way to approach this would be to write my own utility (custom.shell) that would interpret the environment file and then execute the desired command.
I have been googling around for Java VIDEO tutorial on Linux environment running command lines (on Editor NOT IDE). However most of them found are on Windows environment running IDE. I only found 1 or 2 on Linux environment but the screen/pictures are not clear.

the script runs fine. but the perl one liner seems not working at all. but if i copy the perl line to a command line, it runs correctly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedScript programming question for the experts. I have written a bash script that works fine if I execute from the shell interactively. However, once I schedule it to be executed via cron, it just wouldn't work. I believe this has to do with cron running in a different environment than the one I am in when I putty in.
The bash shell script does refer to environment variables in the .cshrc file. I guess these aren't available to the cron? How can I load them into the script if I want them to be available to the cron locally within the script?

ccess to an iso file in chroot environment from my usual root (/) env..
Within the chroot environment I have an iso file placed... In my program I need to access this iso file and perform mount and other operations.. But I cant do this in the chroot environment as I have only basic commands here (ls,cp etc.. and no mount)
So how can I access this iso file from my program ? Is there something like a file-descriptor which I can associate with the file exit from the chroot env and access the file via this fd ?
