OpenSUSE :: Transferring Music To Windows

May 2, 2010

I copied all my music to my pen drive, and when I go to copy it onto windows it doesn't work. Is this something to do with the way Linux saves it or something.

Ubuntu :: Transferring Music From IPhone?

Feb 11, 2011

OK I have a problem, well I think it's just ubuntu because this has done this in 9.04 and 10.04 and still in 10.10. When I go to drag and drop the music files from iPhone to my music folder, the files transfer, but they don't transfer with the name of the song. They get transferred with a name of 4 digits like this "BVFG.MP3" (example).

I am not going to go through all 1,200 of my songs and rename them one by one that's ridiculous.

Here's a screen shot. That is actually More by Usher, but it doesn't say Usher obviously.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Transferring Music To Sony Walkman NWZ-S545

Sep 6, 2010

I have a Sony Walkman NWZ-S545. I have Rhythmbox 0.12.8. I have a System 76 amd64 computer. I have run Ubuntu (now 10.1) for a couple of years and before that Linspire and haven't had MS Windows for years.

What I want is to be able to simply transfer music files from my computer to the Walkman. Nothing fancy. Drag and drop is fine. (I was hoping that it would be shown on the desktop, that I could open it and access it and drag files to it.)

I looked in Ubuntu help and found: "Ubuntu will work with most portable audio players, including iPods. Normally, all you have to do is plug the player into your computer and then use Rhythmbox to copy songs to and from the player."

When Rhythmbox didn't recognize it and no icon appeared on my computer screen indicating it was plugged in as an external device, I went back to Ubuntu help and found and installed the mtpfs and mtp-tools packages and made sure that the MTV plugin in Rhythmbox was checked. Now Rhythmbox could see the Walkman BUT could not play any songs! And there was no Walkman icon on the desktop.

When I tried to play the 5 sample songs on the Walkman, I got one of these 3 errors:
a. Couldn't start playback - no file name specified for reading
b. No URI set
c. Unable to copy file from MTP device: PTP Layer error 02ff: LIBMTP_Get_Filemetadata(): call to ptp_mtp_getobjectpropssupported() failed.

(BTW, my Rhythmbox setting under preferences - music is for .ogg - can see other options under edit but cannot switch to them. My mp3 songs transferred from my external hard drive to Ryhthmbox beautifully and play just fine)

After further searching, I read I should confirm that libmtp8 was installed and I found that it was.

So I went to Ubuntu Rhythmbox help and read: "If Rhythmbox Music Player does not detect your device as a portable audio player, you can create an empty file named .is_audio_player at the top level hierarchy of the filesystem of your player."

OK - I am stuck here at several levels:
1) Is this what really needs done?
2) If so, how? (I searched ".is_audio_player" and came up with several comments and how-tos, all seeming to involve going into the root directory and inserting an empty file somewhere. First of all, I can't get into my root directory even as the administrator with full privileges! Secondly, I know enough to know that even if I could - I shouldn't!

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Transferring Music To IPod Touch 4.2.1 In Rhythmbox

Aug 3, 2011

A while ago, my iPod Touch was on the 3.1.3 firmware and when I would drag songs onto it from within Rhythmbox it worked perfectly. The filenames would be changed to follow Apple's weird naming conventions, and they would appear in the music library on my iPod. Then, I updated to 4.2.1 and I could no longer mount the iPod (this was a known issue, and someone made a fix, but I didn't bother with it) so I wasn't able to connect to it and transfer any more songs through Rhythmbox. Recently I noticed that I can now mount the iPod again and browse it in Rhythmbox (it must've been fixed in an update). However, I can't (successfully) transfer songs to it.

When I drag songs onto the iPod, Rhythmbox displays the "transferring __ songs" status, and they get added to the iPod's list of songs shown in Rhythmbox. However, they aren't visible in the iPod's actual music library. And when I reconnect the iPod to browse the music on my iPod in Rhythmbox, the newly transferred songs are no longer there. But the space left on my iPod has definitely decreased. So I went into my iPod's iTunes_Control/Music folder and noticed that all the songs I transferred are actually there in the F## folders, but they didn't get renamed to follow Apple's naming scheme (so instead of being named something like LNXQ.mp3 they just retain whatever the old filename was). So does anyone know what's going on? Rhythmbox definitely used to be able to transfer the songs in the "correct" way which ends with their filenames being changed and the songs being added to the iPod's music library. Why isn't this happening correctly anymore? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

OpenSUSE :: Transferring Files From One O/S To Another On The Second Partition?

Aug 22, 2011

I have two different Linux operating systems (on two separate partitions) on my laptop. One is open SUSE and the second is PCLinuxOS and I frequently have to update files and folders from one to the other (the consequences of trying to keep both current!). When I am using openSUSE and want to access folders/files on the other OS, openSUSE asks for SU authorisation to access the other . . ./home file. Until recently, I could open ALL of the folders on the (other) /home file but now I can open some folders but not others. The Dolphin screen shows a warning at the bottom that "Could not enter folder /media...... " ! I can then only access the folder by going into the menu and using the 'File manager -Super User' mode ..AGAIN.

I suspect this action is necessary because I have had to previously open these specific folders in 'Root mode' to be able to 'paste' the moved file! I would like to avoid this (double) 'messy' action - how to change/avoid this My system is a 32bit openSUSE 11.4 with KDE 4.6.0 and the 2nd OS is also KDE 4.6

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Migration Of Music From Windows 7 Professional To 10.10?

Mar 7, 2011

I have a Windows 7 partition with all my music. I'm a beginning Ubuntu user and I really like it and so would like to have my music in Ubuntu to create playlists and such since I'm spending more time here (in Ubuntu) and will likely spend most of it unless I require a very specific process. As it stands, I've been going back to my Windows partition purely because my playlists are all set up and all my music is in my music player.

How do I migrate the music from that partition to my Ubuntu one without simply copying GBs and GBs of music and taking up twice the space for the same thing?

refrain from suggesting an external drive, as I don't have the money for one currently.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 11.04 Mounting Windows Music From LAN On Startup

May 17, 2011

My problem is that in order to get Banshee to play my music thats in a Windows system on the LAN, I have to mount the volume first. This works fine if I navigate to the folder every time I startup Ubuntu and then play music through the library in banshee. However, I want to add a command to mount the volume on startup in the startup applications. I tried this in a terminal:

Code: sudo mount -a smb://home/p/My Music /home/username/Music/Music on Home This didn't mount anything. In fact, I couldn't even cd to the directory "smb://home/p/My Music". And yes, I did already make the directory "/home/username/Music/Music on Home". I'm thinking that my problem is really how do I write the address of a Windows network drive.

Ubuntu Networking :: Media (Music And Movies) Sharing And Windows

Mar 8, 2010

I am having issues with streaming media (music and movies), well just transfer speeds period, from my Windows Vista desktop PC and my Ubuntu laptop On my Windows PC I have two folders shared: Music and Movies. I also have Media sharing enabled on my Windows PC so that I can stream my music and movies to my Xbox360 and playstation 3. My game consoles have no issues at all with playback speed and quality. My laptop is a dual boot with Windows and Ubuntu.

Streaming to my laptop under Windows is fine. Playback is great and copying files to and from my network shares(Music and Movies folders) is fast. However, under Ubuntu, I've mounted an SMB share to the Windows computer to each folder. When I browse to an MP3 song in VLC, I cannot even listen to it! It'll constantly buffer every few seconds. Forget about trying to watch a movie in VLC either! XBMC and Boxee are useless because they NEVER finish scanning the network folders to even add my content - let alone try to stream them.

Trying to copy 89MB (an album worth of MP3s) from the Windows server to Ubuntu was going to take 8hours! Something is definitely wrong here and I just can't figure it out. Should I be connecting to Windows using some other networking method besides SMB? My network is setup with my Windows Desktop connected via 100MB ethernet to a wireless router. The Router is dual broadcasting in G and N modes. I have excellent connection strength and full network rate (54MB for G) on my laptop. Again, networking is fine when using Windows on the laptop.

Ubuntu :: Manually Restart The Avahi-daemon In Order For The Music Players Unable To 'see' The Music Server?

I use mt-daapd music server to stream music to a couple of network music players (which use UPnP protocols). Recently (last month or so) I have found that on restarting my ubuntu system I need to manually restart the avahi-daemon in order for the music players to be able to 'see' the music server. Ubuntu :: Programs Or Music Or Video Players And Desktop Are Closed Are Removed All The Icons When Entering A Music CD

Jul 6, 2010

1-When entering a music CD, video or files, any programs or music or video players and desktop are closed are removed all the icons and I can not open any program only on firefox, I can not see the files or anything . (NOTE CD-rom is in mint condition)

2-I graphics effects ruin the entire desktop and when it is in fact no graphic still looks bad everything looks pixelated or striped like when flex is damaged or something is damaged and is in perfect condition.

Now I'm going with the version 10.04 of ubuntu:

1-I have the same problem with the CD I had in 9.10, except that in the 10/04 I can open some programs with the Emphaty and monitor systems.

2-When you close the laptop when I open the screen looks as if the flex embers damaged or broken screen (when it is of course) and I have no other to reset it.

3-When you drive about 30 minutes using computed with any open programs (Firefox, Emphaty, emesene, movie player, Gnome player) to close it or minimize it gets super slow and sometimes if I Friza and then to turn it off and repeat history.

4-When I'm watching a movie or a video with movie player is super slow (just what I'm playing does not the OS) as if Lageado and stuff. But with Gnome looks pretty good player just the video looks very small and I can not put it full screen. Certainly in a Dell Latitude C610 Pentium III-Processor: 1000/700mhz-Memory: 512MB Graphics-Card: 16mb.
