I used to unpack tar files to use some graphic elements under windows (I am a Blackbox for Windows themer) but since Enlightenment theme files switched to .edj I can't open them anymore. Is there a Windows application that can help me with this? Can I change the extension to tar or something (I used to do that in the past) and unpack the files

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've discovered that Dolphin seems to lose random files when copying many large folders.
I first noticed this a few months ago when I tried to copy my music library from one folder to another on the same HDD. It consisted of around 600 folders and 6500 files. During the copy there were no errors but after the copy I found that some of the newly copied folders were missing files. I put it down to human error or a glitch.
Yesterday I tried to copy 13 folders containing rips of some of my DVDs. Each folder basically had one film of either 700MB or 1.4GB. Again no errors showed up during the copy but I found 3 of the newly copied folders were empty.
It's not so critical with music or films but I can't afford to lose work data like this.
Has anyone experienced or seen a similar problem with Dolphin? I'm going to have to do some more extensive testing but this is not good.
The first time I noticed the problem I was running KDE4.3.4 (I think) and now the latest was with KDE4.4.0.
I am trying some time now to get drobox going. After resolving problems with the repo-file it is now downloading fine then stops unpacking by 97 %. I tried using threads which tell that it is selinux which does not give permissions for the install. Trying to block selinux during the installation has not worked out. Is there a way to get it going it is something I do need every day?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've always been able to run my shell scripts and other executable files using dot slash, ie: ./runfile.shAfter doing a fresh 11.4 install, I cannot run my scripts. Even if I 'source' the file, it won't run. Why?This is an example of the files that will no longer run. Permissions look normal to me, but there is an * at the end of the filename. I think that just means it's executable, but I've never seen it on my systems before.

As far as I understand my SAMSUNG-USB (120G) is being detected but the problem is that I dont know how to have access to my files.
I updated to KDE 4.2 when it came out on openSUSE 11.1 and things were working OK.
Now I can no longer send files to the Trash. I get an error in Dolphin saying "The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually."
I deleted a bunch of stuff from my Trash and I have 1.7GB free on my /home partition so it's not a lack of space.
Where are temp files stored in SuSE 11.0? I am trying to find all of those videos and .jpgs and other miscellaneous files I've downloaded in the past, and which are now only taking up space on my hard drive. I'd like to clean out all of that. I have looked in both /tmp and in /.kde but don't see what I'm looking for.

My Current / Old box (WinXP)can burn 2.9GB of data over a LAN from a mapped drive using Nero in 7 minutes and maintain file & directory names as they are complete with upper and lower characters, spaces between words and special characters without shortening file / directory names out of the box. My new box (SuSE 11.2) was initially incapable of burning anything, ?Access Denied? I added the user to the cdrom group this allowed the burning of data but the process changed file and directory names. It changed all letters to capitols, replaced blank spaces and special characters with underscores. I still can?t burn ISO files, ?Access Denied?. The time it took to burn the 2.9GB of data on the hard drive of the SuSE install was sort of acceptable but a full 5 to 6 minutes longer and I was forced to shorten file names too.
I changed a setting to allow the full ascii character set hoping this would preserve file and directory names as they are during the burn process. I changed a setting to allow long file names too. I now have another problem, on starting the burn process and after a minute'sh K3B displayed the fact that it was going to take over 1 ? hours to finish! Yikes. After an hour it was going to take a further 2hrs and 10mins. This didn't include read varify. I aborted the burn process, this can?t be correct. I placed the LG drive in my old box, burn process took a second or two less than 7mins to complete using the same data over the same LAN. I've tested the drive for hardware errors, the drive is perfect. Am i missing something, failing to do something or doing things wrong. Is the optical drive or some other component incompatible in some way.
I'll be burning many gigabytes of data on a daily basis and i'm hoping to be able to burn a full DVD disc of mixed data types in less than 10mins whilst preserving the full ascii character set, file & directory names inc special characters and blank spaces. I still need to resolve my "access denied" problem when trying to burn ISO files too.
A couple of months ago, I upgraded from OpenSUSE 11.1 w/Gnome desktop to 11.2 w/KDE desktop. While I generally like the refinements of KDE, there is one aspect I absolutely detest, and that is the apparent inability to work with files and folders directly on the desktop as one does with Gnome or Windows or Mac OS.
While file manager applications like Dolphin have their uses,I generally find them to be cumbersome compared to being able to drag and drop files and launch applications directly from the desktop. In this respect, I feel as though I have reverted to the functional equivalent of Win 3.1. Is there a way to enable access to folders and files on the desktop in KDE or do I need to revert to Gnome?

ZIP v2.32
I wish to exclude some files from a zip archive. On other OSes to exclude an entire directory I would use the "-x" option like so:
Code:
zip -r archive-name * -x dir1/* Simple. And just add "-x"'s as needed (or use an exclusion file).
Not how it works here, it would seem. AFAICT all "-x" options are ignored. (The entries in an exclusion file also.) For instance, "-x diy/mplayer/*" should ignore everything in the <diy/mplayer> directory. It does not. I have tried fully qualified paths as well; no joy.
What is different about ZIP on linux?

i need a command line application for converting .pptx (PowerPoint 2007) Files into .ppt (PP 2000/2003/XP)Files.
Is there any tool existing or is it even possible to do the convert via openoffice?
The only requirement is, to do that via command line or a script which can be executed from the command line.
Anyone else getting this? It's very strange that it can play .wav files but not .ogg.
This is a clean install of 11.2 64bit as of yesterday, all other sound works well.
When it tries to play a .ogg it sounds like raw data is being catted to /dev/audio or something.
