How to mount vfat partition automatically after boot? After login it it will mount all vfat partition and the icon of those parition will be at desktop. How can it be done. udisks is installed. If i click a vfat partition from pcmanfm it prompts for password to mount.I don't want to click. It will be automatically mounted and i will get the icon of that mounted vfat partition at desktop
View 7 RepliesI have a vfat partition under RedHat RHEL5 that I currently must mount manualy after each boot. I would like it to auto-mount but I cannot find a way to do this without it becoming ro except for root. My other partitions auto-mount just fine. I have tried the vfat as a separate partition and as a VLM logical drive (as it currently is).
The fstab statement:
"/dev/VolGroup00/LogVolDos /dos vfat noauto,users 0 0"
allows me to mount it as a user. The statement:
"/dev/VolGroup00/LogVolDos /dos vfat defaults 1 2"
is what I use for other VLM partitions, but for the vfat it seems to only allow root access. Manually mount this partition is OK, it's just that I have sometimes forgotten and then it is not included in backups. What do I need to do to make the vfat auto-mount as accessible for a user?
How can i get the windows vfat partition at left side of dolphin? Windows vfat drives are mounted in /windows.Those are not displayed at the left side of dolphin.
View 6 Replies View Relatedrecently i was trying to mount my partition automatically at start up ...so i gone through some tutorials on the net nd made some changes in /etc/fstab file (i made a back up before making any changes). when i was changing permissions of folder in which i tried to mount my all partitions i got my system screwed up.then it was showing following error at start up and GUI was not turning up. "could not update ICEauthority file " also my sudo was not working so first i restored original fstab file through recovery console then i googled out about above errors. I found some solution now my system is working but showing strange behaviour like:
> ubuntu is not detecting any of my hdd partition
> disk utility is not working (showing no error)
>fdisk -l shows nothing
> no new software is getting installed via ubuntu software center (shows no error when clicking on install but nothing turns up)
>i cannot restart or shutdown my system from GNOME it only logs off my session (although through terminal its working)
>no media player showing sound controls enabled
>gnome not showing ethernet or sound volume icon in upper panel (although net is working)
>users and groups from system->administration menu is not working (error:cannot load configuration)
i think most of the administrative tasks are not working.........i googled out but found nothing satisfactory..i dont want to reinstall it, coz i m not very experienced with linux n it took about a whole month to customize my ubuntu 9.10 on my college internet...
I had to re-install Windows XP because the install was running slow.So, I created another partition using GParted for my personal data and moved my files there and re-installed Windows XP.Now, the Windows partition won't mount automatically.NTFS Configuration Tool shows 0.0GB. So, I have to open up a Terminal window, and issue sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/Windows and everything is fine.

I'm trying to configure pam_mount to automatically mount an encrypted partition (luks) and formatted to NTFS. I typed the command in the configuration file:

I found a way some times ago to mount a truecrypt volume when opening the session by insertion of the login password in the mounting script instead of putting it in clear in the script. I don't remember to command to read/transfer the password.

But if fstab says mount /dev/sdb1 at /video it becomes owned by root and wont let root change owners. even if fstab says rw,user i still cant mount or unmount /dev/sdb1 at /video

I have just installed 10.04 and am enjoying the quick clean boot. I have a dual-boot option as I have come over from XP. Most of my data is still on the old 'c:/' drive and I have to manually mount it every boot-up. Is there any way to automate this process?

1. vfat 100GB
2. ext3 remainder
Both were formatted when I created them with qtparted. Windows 7 sees them, and says they are healthy, but does not recognize the vfat partition. Is it too big, perhaps? Short of moving everything off the vfat partition and recreating it with W7, how do I fix it? I think W7 uses some sort of extended fat32 now?
I was attempting to format a flash drive, and well, used the wrong sdX device. I've run DiskInternals Partition Recovery tool, and all my files are still there (you have to pay $139 to have it restore the files). Is there any way using tools in linux to restore the ntfs partition/files? It was a single disk with the partition taking the entire drive. I've tried mounting it with the -t option, but it says invalid ntfs signature. Man, two lessons the hard way, make sure you backup (duh) and be careful what you type as root.

I googled around, and found references to /system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options gnome configuration option, but I don't seem to have this option set, actually, I don't seem to have a /system/storage tree in gconf-editor at all. searching in gconf-editor doesn't really yield any results.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to get everything working ok. i have installed ubuntu using wubi and i've found that i can access my files on my windows partition from ubuntu. to do this i have to mount the disk and enter the password each time i boot up, and i would like this to be done automatically. i was wondering if this was possible? i put in a link directly to the music folder on windows into my 'places' but it only appears once i have put the password in. its not a huge thing, but its one of those things which would make starting up my ubuntu a lot more conveniant.

The first one(from a debian home/somedir directory worked perfectly) but the second one not. This second directory is a hard disk partionned on fat32(vfat in my /etc/fstab file).

I partitioned my drive to dual boot with XP, and I also added in a fat32 partition so both Windows and Linux can read/write to there to share files. I now have a problem with permissions (I know that fat32/vfat does not support permissions.) I can as my normal user read/write to this partition, but I want to set-up a CodeBlocks project on there and this is where I run into my permissions error.I can create it and the .cbp file is there ect. but I can not save any work, it will complain ('could not write', or sometimes with 'maybe this drive is write protected'.) I have 250 GB HDD, 150 GB has CentOS installed,I have formatted the rest 100 GB in vfat, mounted on /data/ folder, now the issue is only root have the write permission on that folder, i have tried all the commands, however i have reformatted it with ext3 and now issue is resolved, i just want to know that why it is not possible to set the permissin to everyone +w on vfat partition.

/dev/md0 (made from sda1 and sdb1) RAID1 /boot partition
/dev/md1 (made from sda2, sdb2, and sdc2) RAID5 / partition
Earlier on I had some trouble with my sda drive, it dropped itself from both arrays, screwing up the mirroring of my two raid partitions participating in the /boot partition. I eventually got everything sorted out and back in sync. (I also have grub installed to MBR on both sda and sdb). Things are working fine regarding that, but since then I've had this issue:
During boot up, I'll get an error message that it could not mount my /boot partition (when fstab is set to either /dev/md0 or the UUID). It claims c9ab814c-47ea-492d-a3be-1eaa88d53477 does not exist!

As far as I know, it isn't neccessary for /boot to be mounted always, correct? Although, as I understand, I need to have it mounted whenever making kernel changes correct?
- The icons in my desktop is always changing randomly upon startup
- Evince can't remember the last page i read before quitting
- Unable to mount usb automatically (have to do 'mount /dev/sdc1/ /media/usb' and 'df -h' every startup)
All of these problems happened just recently. I thought they were coming from unresolved packaging but after upgrading and distro-upgrading from packman only, and gnome, the problems still persist. If it helps, here's my zypper lr -d

I have an NTFS partition problem which prevents me from installing openSUSE on my desktop computer. It's not a trouble with installation, it's a security issue relating to NTFS.I have a desktop running XP exclusive, but wish to also go dual boot but can not because I have created a NTFS partitoin on my HD wich I don't wish others to know about.After booting window$, I am able to successfully unmount the partition using Diskpart, which is a command line program within that OS. Once unmounted, it is effectively hidden from those who might be snooping until I manually remount it. Essentially I remove the drive letter which makes it inaccessible to Windows.
(Yes I know a person with proper skills can easily find it, but that's not applicable in my case for those who would look)If I install openSUSE which I desperately desire, it will automatically locate and mount the NTFS partition I wish to hide, making it easily accessible to anyone booted up in SUSE.Changing the attributes to the associated files to "hidden" is not an option. I need that secret partion to remain unknown.How can I hide, deny access to, or prevent that particular NTFS partition from automatically being mounted in Suse? Once that security issue is resolved I look forward to using Suse again, like the other people do in our home.

Partition table entries are not in disk order I'm trying to automount /dev/sda8, I believe. I'll check that when I've rebooted to by Ubuntu partition, 'cause that's where I know how to do it. I tried to use pysdm, since that's what I used to do the same thing in Ubuntu, but it wasn't found by the Fedora package manager.
