OpenSUSE :: Install And Use The Original KDE Menus?

Feb 20, 2011

I want to use the original KDE menus. The openSUSE menus are good if you have a lot of software, but I don't use a lot. For example, in Internet category, I only have 4 applications and I think is very boring have a lot of submenu. Can I install the original menu?

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Changed - How To Get Original Back

May 15, 2011

When I first installed openSUSE 11.4 the /boot directory looked like this:

I had installed VirtualBox through Yast and decoded to delete. After deleting the /boot directory looked like this, pointing now to the desktop kernel.

I went into YAST and deleted all kernel entries that contained desktop, trying to get back to the original configuration.

After doing this, the /boot directory now looks like this.

Is there any way to get back to the original kernel configuration without having to do a complete installation?

I recently installed opensuse on my computer due to it contracting a virus and not letting me reistall the original operating system on it. but i know nothing about this program. i have almost everything up to date and working on it. one thing i find strange is when i try to update the flash or java on it that i have to do all this extra stuff to get it to run. i do not know what programs to pull up to type the stuff down thats given in the java installation instructions. the movement of the webpages when scrolling is running slow and videos on ..... do not have as good of quality to it as it did on windows. so im assuming something is out of date or there are settings i need to adjust.

OpenSUSE :: Restore Original KDE Desktop As It Was From The DVD

Apr 9, 2009

When i click the green frog head, things dont behave as before. When i moved my mouse from the Favorites to Applications or to Computer/Recently Used/Leave tabs, the desktop enviroment would automatically switch, without me having to click them. Another thing is if i want leave the green frog toolbar i have to click somewhere withing the green frog head window to close that window. Before i was able to get out of it by clicking on any window out of it, like a firefox window. Also when i go to desktop setup , the only themes remaining are Oxygen and Aya.There were more before. Finally similar programs on the taskbar are grouped together which i don't like. how i could over these problems without having to reinstall the OS , preferably using the opensuse dvd.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Grub Install - Cannot Boot Into Original System

Jun 8, 2010

I just installed 10.04 to the second hard drive on my system, and stupidly installed the new grub to the first drive, which has my standard 9.10 OS on it. Now I cannot boot into my original system. All of the files across both disks are still intact and mountable. I'm not new to linux in general, but I'm not exactly knowledgeable, either...

Ubuntu Installation :: How I Could Re-access Or Re-install Original Grub

Oct 27, 2010

I've been using Ubuntu for a couple years, and have really enjoyed the experience. Recently though, I also felt like installing Arch Linux onto my laptop which already had a Vista/Ubuntu 10.04 partition. In doing so, I lost access to the Ubuntu partition on my hard drive. The Arch linux grub had replaced the Ubuntu grub.

So the main question is, does anyone know how I could re-access or re-install the original Ubuntu grub? If not, then can someone help me with adding a boot option in Arch's Grub? I've already tried some things, though obviously, none have worked so far.

Software :: Restore To Original State After A 'make Install' ?

Feb 26, 2011

I was in real doubt where to put this, so I hope I picked the right forum; otherwise, my apologies!

I want to build Roadsend PHP on my system. There seems to be no way to do this with the package manager, so I have to build it from source.

Turns out it depends on something called 'Bigloo'. Again no luck with the package manager, so I had to build this one from source too.

I took version 3.0c (Roadsend website recommends this version), did a

Code:
./configure && make && make install

, which did the job. Builing Roadsend worked, but I got a runtime error, which had to do with the Bigloo version.

No problem, I tought, then I'll just install Bigloo 3.1a. I did a "make uninstall" in the 3.0c dir, and tried to build 3.1a. This also worked, but now when I try to make Roadsend, I reports:

Code:
*** ERROR:bigloo.heap:
Release mismatch -- Heap is `3.0c', Bigloo is `3.1a'

So, somehow, there are still traces of 3.0c on my system. Maybe some file that didn't get deleted or some table entry that hasn't been undone?

My question is: How can I remove all traces of this version? Apparently, "make uninstall" is not thorough in this case.

And: Is there a general solution to remove everything when I did a "make install". So that my system is in the same state as it was before I ran the command?

Upon coming back up, I added the FreeNX zypper repository & installed the latest FreeNX. Connecting via FreeNX works, but I'm not able to see any window menus on any of my applications. They get stuck to the top left corner of the screen &/or they don't have the window border surrounding the window (as in the top bar that contains the minimize/maximize buttons).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Audio In DVD Menus?

Apr 10, 2010

I managed to take some .avi files and convert them to the various files needed for viewing on my DVD home player. I used DeVeDe for the conversion and, of course, k3b to write the files to disk.

One thing I wanted to do though, is to have an audio file play while the menu is being displayed like many of the commercial disks. I can't seem to find a way to accomplish this. DeVeDe has many options to control the appearance of the menu but I don't see anything about sound.

I'm in the US if that makes a difference. I found it does for the video format.

Ubuntu Installation :: Back To Original Packages After Upgrade/install?

This is very important because on 10.04 my video card won't handle all the mods that I had on 8.04 and my system freezes very soon after I log on.

OpenSUSE :: Firefox Drop-down Menus Vanish When Scrolling Onto Them?

Aug 7, 2011

This is a problem I had in Ubuntu some years ago that just seemed to go away; sporadically I will want to select a website by positioning the cursor over the drop-down arrow to the right side of the url box- after the list is displayed it will vanish immediately when I attempt to position the cursor over it to make a selection. Minimizing then maximizing Firefox resolves it.

A minor problem yes - but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.

General :: Packages Seemingly Install Fine With Zypper But Can't Be Run And Aren't In Menus

Oct 3, 2010

I'm not sure how to describe this because no-one else on the internet seems to have had anything even vaguely resembling this problem. I'm trying to install wxPython for openSUSE 11.3 (which seems to be called python-wxGTK which is fine). I don't think it's a problem with that particular package because I seem to remember something going wrong ages ago, the last time I installed something, but it didn't affect that particular install so I paid no notice. I'm sorry, that was a really vague statement and won't help anyone in the slightest. Anyway, the reason I think that event was relevant is that ever since then my Gnome menus have been out of sync - the new package I installed didn't appear on the menu.

Anyway, onto actual useful stuff. Just as a test case (to see that nothing was wrong with wxPython) I installed another small application with zypper (just the standard sudo zypper install moneyplex). zypper didn't complain at all and as far as I know it went perfectly.
