OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Working When On Battery - On AC Everything Is OK?
Aug 15, 2011
Problem as in title: on AC everything ok, but on battery my wireless is not working.openSUSE 11.4, gnome 3.0lspci:Code:03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727] (rev 01)Subsystem: Askey Computer Corp. I just got a Lenovo Thinkpad x100e. Everything seems to be running well, with this exception of the wireless adapter. When running on the battery the wireless runs for about 30secs to 1 minute before dropping out. The NetworkManager says it's still connected, but nothing goes across the network. Disabling and then re-enabling the wireless works, for about 30 sec to a minute. The weird thing is this behavior DOESN'T occur when the power adapter is plugged in.
I'm wondering what power management parts I should be looking at? I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2, KDE 4.3.5 if that helps.
I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.
i read the sticky post on here about how to try and get my wireless card working.
i have installed opensuse 11.4 i followed step 1 of post and got following: /usr/bin/lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
My openSUSE's working unstable and very slowly! Wireless is starting very late.It appears 10min later after i loggen in,and wants me to enter wireless password. This windows is showing up so late, and I can't connect internet before it shows up.
I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:
root's password: lo Interface doesn't support scanning. eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
The wireless on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.2 installed on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop stopped working some time back (possibly more than a one or two months back). I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.
Some details, the wireless is:
Code:
04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection [8086:4235] Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1121] Kernel driver in use: iwlagn In terms of installed apps:
I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.
I have Lenovo G550 and openSUSE 11.4. Everything's ok, wifi without problems, I could connect to anywhere I wanted to, but yesterday while laptop was running and was connected actually by wire to internet, after removing the wire I realized that I cannot connect to wifi (the laptop was hibernated during night) - even the light diode in the front of the laptop was not shining. I went to yast and realized that the wlan0 isn't enabled and there's new eth1 port. But the wlan by ifup I cannot start and the eth1 I cannot start as well.
I have a strange problem with my laptop and need your help in resolving it...i am using a Dell Studio XPS 1645..i have got everything working except the wireless.. and the real problem here is that the wlan detects the network but does not connect to it and will keep on looping back and forward doing the same thing again and again..I am using Opensuse 11.4 with Gnome 3 Shell..here is details of the commands that i tried using to fix the issue
My wireless is not working after a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.2. I cannot connect in KDE or Gnome. I installed cnetworkmanger and I can't get anything to connect. My wired network card on this laptop has been down for a long time. All I have is wireless. I have to roll back today to 11.1 if I can't fix it, but I really have been looking forward to 11.2 for some time. This is really a stupid bug to have in supposedly production ready software. Maybe I should add that in KDE knetworkmanager does not load by itself. I have to load it manually via console every reboot. I get this:
> knetworkmanager Object::connect: No such signal QTreeWidget::itemDoubleClicked(QTreeWidgetItem*) Object:: connect: (sender name: 'twNetworks')
It puts the icon in the system tray, and annoyingly hides it, so it took me a while to evern realize it was there. When I point my mouse at it, it says "Networking Information Not Available". When I click it, it says Network Management Disabled. cnetworkmanager spews out a bunch of errors and finishes by saying it can't find any .service files. I configured the device via 'Network Devices' in YaST. Hardware info says it is using the iwl3945 kernel driver. Everything was fine in OpenSUSE 11.1 and 11.0.
I just finished putting openSUSE 11.4 on my Compaq Presario V5000. I have been trying for hours to find the answer of how to get my wireless card to work. I can't connect to my router wirelessly and the on/off button for the wireless mode does not light up when pressed.
As far as I can tell from what I have already tried, I have a broadcoamm wireless card. It is a bm4318. I have b43-fwcutter installed and I have tried updating my firmware through the terminal. I have also used 'sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware'. It appeared successful, but the laptop still cannot make a wireless connection.
When I'm at uni I use the wireless internet. This works perfectly well. Due to some issues with another program I ended up installing KDE4 in addition to gnome, which I usually use. In gnome the computer can easily find and log on to the wireless network. However when I start a KDE4 session I can't get the wireless to work. I don't really understand why this is happening. I though it would use the same settings. How do I make the KDE4 wireless network manager use the settings from the gnome wireless network manager?
I am running OpenSUSE 11.3 i had OpenSUSE 11.3 installed before and everything worked fine. I eventually went back to Windows for a bit. I have a Wireless Button that glows Orange. When I went back to windows it remained orange everytime I turned on my mp or woke it up. When I press it, it goes blue and wireless works. It was really annoying but I ignored it, I could never find a solution. I reinstalled OpenSUSE today, to find out Wireless doesnt work at all. I press the button but it remains Orange. My wireless adapter is a: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.
I M USING HP G42 NOTEBOOK. JUST IIIIINSTALLED OPENSUSE 11.3.WIRED ETHERNET IS WORKING BUT WIRELESS IS ABSENT.I USE WIN 7 HOME BASIC AS WELL IN THE SAME SYSTEM AND WIRELESS IS WORKING.I M TOTALLY NEW TO THIS SO JUST ASK ME ANYTHING YOU ALL NEED TO KNOW AND I WILL COMPLY.
My first problem is that when I open KNetworkManager the wireless tab is desibled,I don't know why! My laptop is HP pavilion dv6-1245DX. How to get connected to my wireless router?
I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver
I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.
[Code].....
Also, I've been doing some research and found out about some file located /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. So I looked in mine and found out that only my eth0 is added.
I followed the sticky about setting up wireless and I have come to an issue where the WLAN switch which is on this computer can be pressed, the light comes on, but no WLAN. When I looked in dmesg, this is what I get:
ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection firmware: requesting ipw2100-1.3.fw eth0: Radio is disabled by RF switch.
Notice it says that the 'Radio is disabled by switch' in dmesg. I can press that switch until the end of the world comes and it does absolutely nothing but make the WLAN light put on a light show. And it shows the wlan to be unassociated with any clients. So, what are my options to get this Wireless up and working?
Computer/OS info:
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400 1.4GHz Intel Centrino R 40GB HD Suse 11.1 KDE
For some reason, i just cannot get my wireless to work in xubuntu. When i click on the network-manager applet, it only has the wired network tab and VPN connections, there are NO wireless networks displayed. I have also tried iwconfig, which returned
lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. and lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset PCI Express Graphics Port (rev 07) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 03)
I have a compaq nc6400 with the intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG card. It fails to find any wireless networks.the IWL3945 driver was installed automaticallyBut when searching for networks none are found, even though on any other computer in the house the network is found.According to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ha...sIntel#miniPCI
Broadcom 4312, dell inspiron 1545.Earlier i was running on battery power and the laptop shut down when the battery got low. When i got back to it and restarted there was no wireless network. It's grayed out and says wireless disabled. How do i fix this?
Unlike a lot of others, I have had no problems getting the wireless on my Dell Studio 1558 working with the STA driver. As long, as I am not on battery, that is. Within minutes of switching to battery and disconnecting from the LAN, my system freezes: I cannot move the mouse, the keyboard is useless (I can't even Ctrl-Alt to a terminal) and my only option is a hard boot.I currently have the 2.6.35-23 kernel and I have tried the following driver options for the wireless (all the below were tried with 2.6.35-22):
- the Broadcom STA driver in the repos- the latest STA dirver from Broadcom- the new broadcom driver, not yet available in ubuntu repos (brcm80211)- ndiswrapper ( I can only get win 7 drivers for my laptop, so this does not even enable the driver)My Wifi card uses the BCM43224 chipset. After a freeze, I have pored over the logs and I cannot find any obvious error messages preceding the event - so I am a little at wit's end ito resolving this. Can anybody give me any clues as to where I should start looking to resolve this issue?
I have Ubuntu 10.10 running on a Dell Latitude E6500 notebook and am using the Broadcom STA wireless driver (just in passing, same happens on Mint 10).
My problem is this: - when the computer is plugged into a power outlet, wireless works fine, but - when the computer is running on battery, it hardly works at all: The network strength indicator item still shows the same connection strength but data are not transmitted anymore or only extremely slowly (google.com might 2 minutes to load).
The drop in performance literally happens 1 sec after unplugging it, and once the notebook is plugged into external power again, it resumes after a few seconds. (I have tested this with big downloads where you can see Firefox's or the Update Manager's download speeds.) The BIOS doesn't seem to have power saving settings that make that happen, and I haven't found any in Ubuntu.
I have searched every now and then (every time the batteries act up) to find a way to get the battery level from my keyboard and mouse. It seems like the most basic thing, but it also seems unsolved in all the threads I have found.
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 [Model:1007] Keyboard: Microsoft Wireless Photo Keyboard [Model:1027] Ubuntu 9.10 Kernel 2.6.31-22-generic Gnome 2.28.1
Hardware: Vostro 3500, BCM4353Ubuntu 10.10Today I decided to test uptime on battery. But when I started using battery I noticed that internet connection is very slow(around 1-4 KB/s, normally ~128KB/s).I used Code:iwpriv eth1 set_pm 0(pm = power mode? And what means this parameter 0, 1 and 2?)and everything seems to be ok now.And my question is - where can I edit which power mode settings for wifi are used on battery?
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 32Bit on an ASUS Eee PC 1015PX. I have found a strange anomaly concerning wireless connection when running on battery power. I have been experiencing very slow performance when connecting to my home NAS and also the internet through a wireless connection when using my netbooks internal wireless card (Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)) when running on battery power. The card works fine and connects at full speed when running on mains power but as soon as I switch to battery power the card connects to the internet/network fine but the connection speed is very slow indeed. I am using the Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA propriety wireless driver.
I have 64bit ubuntu 10.04 installed on lenovo ideapad y450. recently, i ended up using the laptop on battery till it died and the wireless doesnt' seem to work after i restarted the laptop after connecting the AC adapter.
When i go to network manager, i see wireless is grayed out and it says it is disabled ( the hard switch on the laptop for wireless is turned on).
Doing some research on forums, i did a sudo lshw -C network and the first line of it says *-network DISABLED and the description is for wireless interface. I can't post the output of the laptop as i don't have a LAN connection or a usb drive to which is can copy and then post it here.
The product is PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [shiloh] Network Connection from Intel
When i did the rfkill list, i got:
0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes
