when I scroll around in the editor window these annoying lines appear and block out text (see the attached pic). They disappear only when I click on them. Its absolutely maddening when you are trying to debug. I thought it might just be the editor I was using (DrPython), so I tried another and the same thing started happening. Theses lines have never appeared in any other application I have used.

I'm trying to install Python and a LaTeX editor and can't really get either to work out. For texlive, I used 'sudo apt-get texlive-full', which didn't generate any errors, but I now can't seem to open the application. For Python, I used 'sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install python2.6' which generated the error "Unable to lock directory /var/cache/apt/archives." I tried to remove a lock file that I read about on another post and open up SPM, but the error persisted.

On windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved. What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line. The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.

I've already used line split stuff to transform my data into something like this in a text file:
Code:
['1', '1', '3', '20.7505207']
['2', '1', '3', '23.0488319']
['3', '1', '3', '-1.5768747']
['4', '1', '3', '-26.4772491']
[code]....
How can I get this on a python program so I can manipulate it as an array?

in ubuntu 10.10, I have installed python 2.7. I would like to use apt-get to install packages to this version of python but I haven't been able to figure out howThings I have tried without success:changing the symlink at /usr/bin/python to point to /usr/bin/python2.7 - even after doing this apt-get still installs stuff to python2.6.Set up python2.7 as the primary alternative using update-alternatives - doesn't work

I have this little manual, cddbretrieval.pdf, that discusses how to submit CDDB info using the editor. I know what it's talking about with the 2 tabs in CDDB retrieval system settings, but when it talks about the CDDB editor, I have no idea where to find it. How can I submit my info about a CD?P.S. According to Yast, I already have:"libkcddb4 - KDE CDDB LibraryA library for retrieving and sending cddb information"

Fresh install of openSUSE 11.3 here and I am used to launching Konqueror as root from the CLI and having a cut and paste editor to use. This doesn't work in KDE 4.4. I can't launch kwrite from the cli as root. What am I supposed to use? I installed midnight commander but it can't cut and paste correctly. I am feeling a bit frustrated with KDE 4.4.

I am just trying out a new installation of 11.4 (KDE) but have an irritating problem when trying to set up bookmarks using the KRDC Bookmark Editor. Whenever I try to add or amend a bookmark in a folder, I start typing in the name or location box and the text field clears itself and the root of the bookmark folder tree becomes selected, making it impossible to add bookmarks. As I need to add around 200 bookmarks, this is really frustrating.

I have a problem with the runlevel editor. It hangs at 28 per cent when initialising the runlevels. (Process: y2base runlevel qt). It used to work fine, probably until.I installed an update recommended by yast, including a new kernel. I did not immediately reboot after installing the new kernel but used the runlevel editor, which has hung since then.I've tried a reboot without success.Does anyone know what I could do to get this running again?

I was sticking to openSUSE 11.2 for as long as I could because I had good functionality and such. I always used OpenShot video editor without hardly any problems. Eventually, being as I am using a new 64-bit system now, I HAD to upgrade the OS to 11.4 to get decent full-screen flash playback. I'm not new or really bad at video editing.
But I do like simple things because I already have enough stress outside of computers in my life. So using OpenShot was very nice because it is simple, basic, and functional; and gets the job done just fine. I just now went to openSUSE 11.4 and OpenShot crashes on load everytime, even after reboot. I would say I know more about computers than 90% of [morons] but there is no way I will ever figure this out.

i recently updated a machine from 4.5 to 4.6 Factory and the Embedded Text Editor function for editing text files inside Konqueror seems to be broken (viewing file is fine, but no editing). Doing research i found that it had been reported, but ignored as an "opensuse problem": Bug 259338 - I cannot edit text files when I preview them in konqueror by using "Embedded Advanced Text Editor" which is not a case in 4.5 seems like i remember that it was a kate plugin or katepart functionality, but others would know more.it was apparently reported in the RC days and disregarded, perhaps someone has more info about it?it doesn't seem to be a config file problem since a new user is in the same boat.for me it is oft-used and would be sorely missed.

On Solaris UNIX, pressing Ctrl-g displays the line number for the cursor position.
i.e. line 1 0f n* --0%--
But, on suse Ctrl-g on displays the percentage only, not the hard line number
i.e. n* lines --8%--
Anyway I can make vi display hard line just like Solaris?
