I have been using my HTPC OpenSuse 11.2 for for some months now and everything is great, I'm very happy that I made the switch to Linux. Today for some reason none of my avi files are able to play. When I try a DVD there is also no play back of the video. Sound is working but video is not there. I have tried Kaffeine, VLC, SM Player. All no luck.
Here is the output after checking with Red Dwarf's troubleshoot thread:
I've just installed a nas on my system. All is ok apart from Kaffeine. It will play the file from the home dir, a usb disc but not for some reason the same file over the network located on a nas. It come up with the following error message:
The connection was configured as a MS Windoze network drive.via dolphin. No problems with compressed, pdf or doc files or copying etc just playing an avi with kaffeine.
After upgrading to 11.4 I can't get my mic to work. In 11.3 it "just worked". Originally I had 2 problems - no sound in Flash videos and mic not working. After uninstalling PulseAudio, Flash is working, but still no luck with my mic. I've tried all the possible options in KMix and alsamixes and it's still like dead. The system is OpenSuse 11.4, KDE 4.6, 64 bit.
i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.
I have installed the Packman Mplayer and smplayer packages. I have also installed the proprietary nvidia drivers from the main site. However when I try using vdpau in mplayer, the video doesn't show up and the logs show these messages:
I have a creative sound card (ca106 driver) detected and working. This is a 5.1 capable soundcard and i also have 5.1 speaker system. The sound card works, however, the problem is that only the front speakers are working. I have checked vlc settings, in which front speakers, centre and rear are seen as different devices.
Speakers are worming normally (sound okay) but when headphones are plugged in no sound is produced but the speakers are turned off. The headphones work on a different computer and work under windows 7 on this laptop. I tried to obtain the mmcheck script from one of the threads but can't find it anywhere on openSUSE site.
That didn't help, so I went with the 10 steps to check the multimedia. The output is here:
I'm using KDE on a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.2 I notice there are some problems with that list, not all the output is as it should be according to the guide I followed. But I'm not sure how to proceed.
Downloaded ten mp4 file (approx 200MB each) and tw0 flv (approx 400MB each) from open-yale and wanted to burn them as a DVD to view on the tv. Using openSUSE 11.2 and KDE4, 2MB ram on a desktop to do this task.
I'm beginner of open suse 11.3. 64bit I cannot open mp3 files. Amarok is opening but it stops immediately. It can be connected with the installation problem. During installations some respositories for mp3 etc was stopping at 50% and repeating the cycle. So I think it's general problem, not Amarok.
I have been running mediatomb for a short while, mainly to play my CD collection on the internet radio. The served is a x86_64 running OpenSuSE 11.1On jan 4 it ceased to work; the /usr/bin.mediatomb file vanished, and eversince I have been unable to get it going. i am using sqlite version.Anyone else got this proble? And even more importantly, how do i get the thing working again? I seem t have lost the db as well and it is not regenerating either
Sound worked great under opensuse 11.1 but I upgraded to Opensuse 11.2 and now can not get it working. The information the sticky says to provide is below. I have Checked all of the volumn controls all are set to approx. 75%. Running the sound test in "Yast/hardware/sound/options/play test sound" works...plays the sound
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav doesn't work - no sound speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav doesn't work - no sound
i have sound but my mic capture seems to be not working in skype or well anything else and I'm confused on what to do after searching. It's an integrated mic somewhere in my laptop. I enabled capture in Kmix but that didn't seem to do anything.
Sound was working just fine in my opensuse 11.2 install until recently. Now it looks like applications can't find the sound server. Under "Control Center" -> Sound it says "Waiting for sound system to respond" forever and doesn't go anywhere. In audacious it has error "alsa error No suitable mixer element found". Now my VirtualBox also gives an error about sound issue. All of these were working just fine early Yesterday.I installed bunch of updates given by YAST yesterday. Could something have messed this up? It is very annoying when sound system was working just fine before and now it suddenly doesn't! Sound like some from windows!
I am trying to uninstall/reinstall banshee. It is not playing nice with my setting sine yesterday.I can't even change the login name of my last.fm account within banshee anywhere.Everytime I uninstall/reinstall it, banshee just continues to reuse my non-working settings.
Gnash is not working in any browser. The only thing working is playing separate music tracks. Video with sound works only in Chrome, but full screen is not available and its very buggy. What to do? Don't want to use Adobe Flash, it's even more buggy, even with music files. Full screen also doesn't work good, although video plays in every browser.
Would anyone know why this program is no longer working? It starts up fine but as soon as I press record it freezes and I have to terminate the program. I've tried using some different settings but its always with the same result.Does anyone know what might have changed from 11.3 to 11.4 to cause these issues?p.s. Im using the xvidcap package from the packman repository
or when I click 'Play Test Sound' in yast, I do hear the test sound, but most of the time I don't. The volume icon on my system tray also disappears randomly, but this doesn't seem to effect whether my sound is working or not.
I have also deleted and re-added my sound card in yast>sound, to no effect.
