I have use Firefox most of the time, but I do not trust this application anymore. (too many straight modifications, and strange application behavior when using it). For some things i use Firefox, so I do not want to delete Firefox from my system entirely. I have installed the Opera Browser on my system, to use it as my main browser. Question 1. I've made Chrome the default browser in KDE's "Configure Desktop>Default Applications", but html attachments in Thunderbird still open in Firefox.I've tried most of the fixes offered on this and other forums as well as those offered by Mozilla's various help files, but nothing works. Most suggestions refer to fixes for 1.x versions of Thunderbird and no longer can be used.I just checked another OpenSUSE 11.2 PC with the newer 3.04 version of T'bird and saw no solution there either.

I'm trying to set the resolution to 1680x1020. I edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and try to manually enter the resolution but after a reboot it goes back to the default.
which is the file i need to edit to manually enter the resolution.
I'm running AntiX (Debian testing and Mepis with IceWM and FluxBox) and I can't change the default web browser (which right now is Dillo). I've checked the config files for Fluxbox and IceWM but I didn't find anything (It could be possible that I missed something).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have three pc's in the house, one desktop and three laptops. the two windows pc's (windoze 7) worked with dsl and firefox just fine. my linux debian laptop DID give me a network connection, i can log in as admin and change the router/modem ect with no prob. i cant get the default browser in debian to load a page. iceweasel says cant resolve the host name. i have WOW and secondlife installed and both games work fine. i can get a connection on the wireless and play them with no prob. I cant surf the web with any default browser in debian. i have a internet connection. i just cant surf so its got to be in the web browser settings? i looked, did not change anything, but do not see what could be causing this.

I have a question re: Iron web browser. I downloaded the the latest iron-linux-32.gz
I unzipped the package to /opt/iron-linux-32 and I can run the browser with no problem from the command line or from the gui. This is good.
However, how can I add Iron to the list of applicable browsers so that I can tell the OS to use Iron and not Firefox as default browser? Only Firefox is in the list of preferred applications.
I tried Chrome, but I still like Firefox better. I can't figure out how to get Firefox back as the default browser. When I go to Preferences --> Prefered Applications, web browser is set to Firefox.

Tried that and it didn't help either. When clicking on link icons on my desktop, they open up in Chrome. Chrome says something to the extent "chrome is not your default browser to open links with. Do you want to make it?" I selected No and checked the box to not show it again. (That's why the above is not exactly what it said.) Kind of funny it said that yet it still opened up with Chrome and not Firefox.
I want to know how to set Opera as the default web browser.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot set Firefox to be my default browser in Ubuntu 10.10. It used to be the default until I installed Chromium last year. Since then, Ubuntu Software Center, LibreOffice, EverNote (through Wine) and probably other apps open links in Chromium instead of Firefox.
I tried several solutions to no avail :
- System > Preferences > Preferred Applications : Web Browser = Firefox I tried with the custom command too : "firefox %s" => still opens Chromium.
- Firefox internal preferences : firefox = default
- Chromium internal preferences : chromium is NOT the default
- stuff like "sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser" set to firefox => another fail
- uninstalling Chromium : that works, Firefox opens all the links. Obviously it is not the desired solution as I want to use Chromium too.
- in Gnome Configuration Editor, there are no mention of chromium and /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command = firefox %s

So I've been poking around google and trying to figure out if there's an answer - or at least a semi-solution to this problem, and have come up with nothing. I've just recently installed Chromium and since I've had it on my Windows 7 install, I'm trying to set it as my default browser, but for some reason it doesn't seem to stay my default browser.
Opening and closing it seems to erase the setting as it always tells me that "Chromium is not your default browser, would you like to make it your default?" And I don't know why.
It keeps asking if I want to set it as default.I always press 'yes' and when I exit and open it again it asks the same question...If I say 'never ask me again' it stops, but continues after I reboot the computer..

I am running PC LinuxOS 2010.12, I am using google chrome as my web browser, when I open Chrome it asks me if I want to set chrome as my default browser and I click yes. The message goes away, but the next time I open the browser its asks again. I installed chromium through the software center but every time I open it up it reminds me that it is not the default browser. I click "make default" every time but my computer still makes firefox the default browser. How do I change this?

There's a link in the set-up for FAQs, but when I try to open it I am told "Could not launch the browser: Could not find kfmclient". I checked /etc/alternatives, and the x-www-browser is set to be iceweasel (Debian's firefox), which is what I use. I do not have Konqueror installed. I use Fluxbox, however, I also run some Gnome and KDE programs. I checked if there is a package I may need, but came up empty:

I also exported the BROWSER variable to be = /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome (logged out and then logged in again). Although, If I open a XLS file with some links inside (OpenOffice 3.2.0) it opens links in firefox instead of google chrome. I surfed across all options in Tools->Options and there is nothing to set or change the default browser.

I would like to replace Kazehakase with a separate web browser and file manager.
