OpenSUSE Hardware :: Strangeness In Speed Of Touchpad - 11.3?

Oct 18, 2010

My touchpad has a great speed/acceleration on the Horizontal axis, but a quite slow one on the Vertical access. I went to Settings (KDE4) and made everything default. The logged out/in. Same problem. What can I do? I did a kernel upgrade yesterday, is that related?

uname -a inux cheetah.site 2.6.34.7-0.4-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-10-07 19:07:51 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux opensuse 11.3, kde4.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Touchpad - Starts Scrolling Unexpectedly After Adjust Speed

Feb 16, 2010

I am having a problem with my touch-pad on my Dell Inspiron 1525. It needs to be adjusted for speed and it starts scrolling unexpectedly. I understand I need to install a driver for it but don't know how. The problem I see with Linux is that it's not easy to install software for new users. I have ran into a few One click Installs and managed to work them out quite easily. Usually the documentation you find online to install programs assumes the end user knows how to install.I need to know how to install the touch-pad driver from start to finish and all steps in between.

Ubuntu :: Touchpad Stops Working After Pressing The Touchpad Toggle Button

May 7, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: How To Configure Synaptics TouchPad

Oct 26, 2010

I have a new HP ENVY 14 laptop with OpenSuSE 11.3 installed, running the Gnome desktop. The laptop has a Synaptics TouchPad. By default, many of the touchpad settings are turned off, e.g. single tap to click. I'm trying to set them in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-synaptics.conf code...

I've verified that the settings I'm trying to set work when I set them using synclient, e.g. synclient TapButton1=1 enables tap to click.

I'm brand new to Linux and OpenSuSE so I'm not even sure this is the preferred way to set up my touchpad. I'd appreciate any help diagnosing this problem.

OpenSUSE Install :: Touchpad Not Responding At Login

Sep 29, 2010

I installed openSUSE 11.3 Edu-life version a few days ago as dual-boot with Windows 7. The graphics are beautiful, and so much smoother than Ubuntu and Windows. Everything has been going great until I booted up tonight, and my touchpad nor keyboard will respond at the user login. I even plugged in an external keyboard and mouse, but still no response. I looked around on the forums, and it seems that most touchpad issues are related to GNOME and after login. But, I haven't even started a session yet. openSUSE is installed on a Dell studio xps 1640 laptop. Any ideas? I tried the fail-safe option at the GRUB, and the keyboard responds in that terminal environment.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Synaptics Muliti-Gesture Touchpad On 11.2

Jan 24, 2010

To cut to the chase, I have an ACER Aspire 8735G-6502, a fairly new model. I'm having issues configuring the multi-gesture to the touchpad to do any of the gestures. In fact when more than one finger is placed on the pad, the pointer flies around the screen in a random pattern. Does anyone have advice on either the configuration of the gestures, or a way of disabling any gestures and just having it be a single digit (classic) touchpad.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Synaptic Touchpad Recognizes Only One Finger

Nov 25, 2010

I read that synaptic touchpads should support multitouch and as I have one of those I tried to enable it. However I wasn't successful.

After some digging in config files (I had to enable SHMConfig) I ended up with KDE configuration tool which is really cool but all multitouch options are there disabled. And also there is an information which says that only one finger is detected by this touchpad.

Is something wrong or my touchpad just doesn't support multitouch? I got this laptop 1.5 years ago so it's not very old.

And by the way, I have this in my Xorg.0.log

Code:
[ 28.821] (--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: touchpad found
[ 28.821] (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (/dev/input/mouse2)

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.4 Gnome Enable Touchpad Tapping?

Mar 11, 2011

I'd like to ask a way to enable touchpad tapping permanently in gnome. I have installed gsynaptics, it starts up with gnome, but every time I log in, I need to go to Control Center->touchpad and enable tapping manually. In openSUSE 11.3 the default behavior was that if you enabled once, it remains so. Also it would be great that tapping to be enabled by default ( like in Ubuntu ), because not everybody knows how to enable it.

OpenSUSE Install :: Network Speed Slow In OpenSUSE 11.3?

Sep 10, 2010

Does anyone know how to revert network speeds to those attained with openSUSE11.2-64? On openSUSE11.2-64 the reported network download speed was,

max : 420 kB/s
ave : ~ 200 kB/s

After upgrade to openSUSE 11.3-64 the figures dropped to about 25% of the previous values. After upgrade to KDE 4.5 and plasmoid-networkmanagement the initial values did not change but the average value dropped after about 30 seconds to ~ 15 kB/s. Approach so far:

1. The motherboard's (A780GM-LE) build in LAN (Realtek RLT8111DL) was originally detected by openSUSE 11.3 as the Realtek RLT8169 and kernel module r8169 installed. This was replaced by the latest module r8168-8.019.00 from Realtek.

2. After kernel update to Linux 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop x86_64 the plasmoid-networkmanagement was replace by NetworkManager-kde4. This improved flow with,

max : 140 kB/s
ave : ~ 80 kB/s

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Sony Vaio PCG - 71312l Touchpad Not Working On 11.3

Nov 29, 2010

Got this new Sony from BB on black friday. I also have the pcg-7184l that works fine and the specs looked very similar. Everything seems to work but the touch pad. I am running able to use a USB mouse with no issue. A search online has not been fruitful so now to ask the community. I am willing to start from basics because I am either overlooked something or missing something. On hardware info all I show is the Sony Jogdial and the USB mouse under mouse. That is making me think that HAL is not even detecting the hardware. According to Sony the windows driver is ALPS so for some reason this one is not being detected by the kernel. I had done a clean install and then updates but the touchpad still does not seem to work in Linux but it was working under Windows7 (has since been removed but I do have an image if I have to restore back to windows.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Enabling Touchpad Tapping (synaptics) - Why Disabled By Default

Aug 24, 2010

To all those who hit this after installing 11.3: Enable the tapping function of your touch pad by adding Option "TapButton1" "1" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-synaptics.conf. then restart X (relogin). It will work with all WMs for which SuSE didn't bother to add a GUI config function/utility (xfce, WMaker, twm/fvwm, etc).

To SuSE: WHY? Why is this disabled by default? Why has a system/HW function to be enabled at WM level?? Why only KDE/Gnome?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Synaptic Touchpad In 11.3 - Strange Behaviour With Dragging And Middle Click

Jul 19, 2010

One strange and little annoying issue I notice with my openSUSE 11.3 installation is my Synaptic touchpad behaves way too strange.... Dragging a window or icon - half way around - a click is generated (probably a middle click I guess) and I need to re-drag it again.... In the browser when I try to select a text - again by dragging - a middle click gets generated... The same happens when I use gvim in visual mode too - I end up pasting the code I had selected halfway because of the middle click....

Middle click can be generated only if I press both left and right click buttons - which I'm pretty sure I'm not.... I tried playing around with the touchpad settings but no good.... I'm not able to find anything related to the middle click on the settings application... My touchpad works fine in Ubuntu and was in 11.2 as well.... Yes it works fine in Xp too.
