OpenSUSE Hardware :: Microsoft Webcam VX3000 - Microphone Not Working ?
Jul 14, 2010
After having fixed the video on my webcam to use it with Skype I want to use the microphone as well...
Skype offers two microphones that seem to be related to the USB webcam. I have tried both of them and with different settings in kmix where I see a tab called "usb camera" with a microphone slider and a tick box. There is also an option to use "audio gain control". no success with all possible combinations.
Then I tried to use the microphone with a small software called "flrec", no success either.

My VX3000 webcam seems to be recognized by skype and kopete, however the image is terrible (green screen with some colour-ful dots at the top).
Here is some output that might shed some light on the issue:
This is what I have installed
Code:
Which seems to be received well on startup:

However the output at runtime of Kopete might give a hint to the problem:

I just installed skype on my F12 yesterday, the webcam I am using is a logitech C200, which has built-in microphone. I got the video working fine but not the microphone. No sound can be recorded. The same microphone works fine on my Windows 7, so at least I can eliminate hardware issue.I have never used microphone on my F12 before

I have an HP dv4 1313dx, pavilion notebook computer. The Built in webcam seems to work OK, but I have absolutely no sound registering when I speak over webchat , or over just sound recordings when I talk at the computer. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or not. I upgraded to 10.4 beta because 9.10 wouldn't let me run my wireless card. So upgrading to the new beta version solved that, but as I said I noticed the built in mic on my notebook isn't picking up any sound. This is whether I'm using Skype, sound recorder, or AMSN for webchats.

I've just installed Ubuntu Karmic on a HP pavilion AMD 64 bit.I've a weird problem: the microphone works good, but using skype 2.1 beta, it stops working when te my webcam. Even after restarting skype, the microphone doesn't work. To make the microphone work, it seems to me that I've to reboot.

I am a proud owner of the Kleinweich WebCam VX 1000.
I want to use my camera with Skype under OpenSuse 11.1. The camera is listed in the yast2 hardware configuration.
I tried to test the camera with luvcview.
I only get an error message:
SDL information:
A way to get this very popular webcam working on his linux PC? If not, which camera is the perfect "LINUX" webcam?

I plugged my Microsoft VX5000 Lifecam into my Ubuntu 10.10 system and expected it to fire up and work like a charm. Well I had high hopes for the new year but I see it's not going to be easy. I tried to use Skype and Camorama. It just does not see the web cam. When I plug it in, I see the little blue light come on for a second then go off.

Mp3s are playing nicely, so does the test sound with Yast. I copied some outputs which you might need to help me figure out whats wrong with my settings.
The motherboard has an onboard sound chip (which I do not use), and I am actively using the PCI sound card (Aureon 5.1, CM8738).
The microphone is coming with the webcam Logitech E 3500 (which worked under 11.1, but updating to 11.2 keeps me without skype functionality).

Ive installed TS3 on SUSE 11.3, it recognizes microphone, but when I try to talk, it captures only noise with segments of words, not understandable at all.. When I try to capture sound by Sound Recorder, defaultly installed in gnome, it works and sound is clear. I tried to play with sound configuration in TS3(trying OSS, ALSA, PulseAudio), but no option helps, its just no input or that crippled not understandable input.

I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

Other than several other problems on my new Sony VAIO I solved with workarounds (it's a terrible machine for working with Linux especially for NVIDIA drivers) I cannot make my microphone working.
Code:
malvasia:~ # uname -a
Linux malvasia.yacme 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-10-25 08:40:12 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
malvasia:~ # aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC275 Analog [ALC275 Analog] .....
I've found a patch to make mic on ALC275 working but I don't know if it's applicable to 11.3 kernel nor if there is a easier solution to adopt.

I've been having problems setting up my microphone and webcam for internet use. I won a Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 on the internet and it doesn't work on ubuntu. I'm sure it works because I also have Windows Vista installed on my laptop and it works perfectly well when using Skype, Windows Live Messenger and even Gtalk.
This webcam model has an integrated microphone, which doesn't work either, even though it works just fine on Windows. I have tried to configure the mic, but when I test-record the sound all I can hear is just noise. I have test-recorded using a headset (which also works on Windows), but I didn't have any success, so I have to believe that I haven't configured something the way it was supposed to be or that a driver is missing.

I've got openSUSE 11.2 installed. Works quite well in general.Today I tried using my microphone for the first time but had no success. I tried to playing with volume settings but to no avail.I recording something with arecord -f cd test.wavand tried playing it back with aplay test.wavbut got nothing. Then I thought I'd look at my sound card configuration. I selected the "Configure your sound card" from the start menu. And to my astonishment no card has been configured (I was surprised because I am able to hear sounds, play music, etc.).Anyway, I tried configuring my card. I selected Creative Labs | XFi, clicked through the menus, and eventually I got an error:
"The kernel module for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters"Also, the command dmesg | grep soundgives me this[ 35.179567] ALSA /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kernel-desktop-2.6.31.12/linux-2.6.31/sound/pci/ctxfi/ctatc.c:1265: ctxfi: chip 20K1 model Unknown (1102:1003) is found

I own a "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Ultra Vision" web cam with a microphone. I have successfully installed it, I can get fedora to recognize it and even view video through all the web cam applications I've tried including vlc, cheese, and camstreem. It was automatically detected by Fedora and took no "tweaking" of my own. The problem I'm having is I don't know how to access the audio. When I go to the pulse audio applet or volume contol (mixer) I can see my quick cam as in input, and I can even watch the audio meter move and respond to sounds I am making. But I don't know how to tell any applications where to get sound from... my video source is /dev/video0, what is my audio source? Since my audio level meter moves when i say things or make sounds, I assume it is there and ready, I just don't know how to access it. I figure this should be pretty simple. I'd like to be able to record video/audio, or even just use the mic separately.

I just installed ubuntu lucid x64 on an HP dv7-3065dx and even though the installation went pretty smoothly, every time I open cheese or anything else that uses the webcam, the microphone all of a sudden cuts off. It doesn't receive input. However if I use the microphone without camera then the microphone works.... Is the webcam somehow crashing the microphone?? Is there something wrong with pulseaudio? The webcam works great and is recognized as "HP Webcam".

I'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.
I have gone through the SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as suggested by oldcpu on the Welcome to multimedia sub-area sticky.
I have tested audio recording with
Code:
arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav resulting in a silent recording. The vumeter showed 0% during the recording.
Here is my url produced by the alsa-info script:[URL]
rpm -qa '*alsa*'
Code:
alsa-plugins-1.0.21-3.3.i586
alsa-1.0.21-3.2.i586
alsa-oss-1.0.17-25.2.i586
alsa-devel-1.0.21-3.2.i586
