I made a kernel module package for opensuse 11.2, kernel 2.6.31-12 (latest update at time of writing). It supports opengl (glxgears has 2000 frames in 5 s), 2D is faster than by using vesa only. But compiz/kwin effects dont work. Open Arena works but is not as fast as under windows xp. I think its a xorg.conf issue.

I followed the sticky about setting up wireless and I have come to an issue where the WLAN switch which is on this computer can be pressed, the light comes on, but no WLAN. When I looked in dmesg, this is what I get:

When running iwconfig wlan0 heres what I get:

Notice it says that the 'Radio is disabled by switch' in dmesg. I can press that switch until the end of the world comes and it does absolutely nothing but make the WLAN light put on a light show. And it shows the wlan to be unassociated with any clients. So, what are my options to get this Wireless up and working?

I guess that driver is not getting loaded since modprobe is giving an error which I mentioned earlier. What could be reason? Did driver crashed? Since this issue cropped up only after I rebooted the machine.
I'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

i'm a true newb with ubuntu. I've tried to find online how to get my graphics card up and running but all the places i check are way over my head. I've been a windows guy forever. Basically the graphics work on my laptop but won't do anything 3d right now. This makes me think i'm not using a correct driver. I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.
Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? I have a new netbook, a Lenovo Z360 and everything except one thing works "out-of-the-box". The one thing is the brightness control. I think it's the same bug like in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/538256 But I don't get anything in dmesg, it's just not working. setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=?? don't work, too. nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor don't work, too. I'm using Fedora 14 with KDE, 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686 and the intel drivers. Maybe somebody knows a workaround, usually brightness control works very well in the newer distributions. I had like 4 notebooks all with Fedora installed and brightness works, especially with the open source intel drivers I didn't expect any difficulties.

I guess thats where Windows comes in but I really like the stability of Linux and the fact it is Open Source and free. Wish I was a cool programmer or someone who has worked with the OS for a while, that would make things a lot easier. Where can I study up and get a little more educated about what I am doing? I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.

I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.
How is OpenGL support (specifically OpenGL 3.x) in the different video card drivers available for Linux?Assuming that the hardware supported it well, would the drivers be an issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I decided that I would swap over to Slackware on my HP dv2000 notebook as Linux mint wasn't encouraging me to use the command line too much and I decided to get thrown in the deep end with the scripting side of things.
Basically I can't work out how to install WCID off the Slackware DVD, I have gotten as far as extracting it (extracted to /home/ but I am unsure how to execute it, I have read the install docs and can't make much sense of it, could someone possibly help out and pass on the code to install.
for some reason the drivers for my laptop graphics are not showing up.
The laptop I have is Acer 1810T. It has intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
I also have a desktop which has Nvidia 9800GT graphics card and the drivers for that showed up automatically when i went to additional drivers in ubuntu.
Having trouble with video and windows/links/applications etc on 10.10, just came from windows 7 with everything fine. had 10.04 on my desktop with nvidia card, was easy to get that driver installed, but intel i cant find the correct information. on a laptop, compaq presario cq56. can anyone help out?
