Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.
I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??
There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.
I have a dwa-125 dlink wireless card which will not work. This is my first time using OpenSuse 11.2 (Well OpenSuse period). I had the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 as well. If it will help the solution I used with Ubuntu is here: [ubuntu] Dlink DWA-125 Wireless Card Issue - Page 4 - Ubuntu Forums. I'd rather use OpenSuse than Ubuntu.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying openSUSE after a long break from Linux, but I am running into the original issue I ran into several years ago which made me decide not to use this distro. My LAN card is working fine, and I can get internet hardwired into my router, but I am not having any luck getting my wireless card recognized or working. Also, my notification area on my taskbar (sorry for the Windows terms) is not showing any sort of network status icon.
I have gone Computer>Install Software> and installed the b43 fwcutter thing from the repos, and have also run the following command in terminal:
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
In Network Settings in YaST, my NIC is showing, but I am still not seeing my Wireless card.
I have a AR928X wireless card and everything I have tried has failed. The default driver ath9k scans and connects to my router but cant connect to any site or ping anything , same with the madwifi driver
lspci prints
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
I read through the sticky of wireless card not working, and I followed through with the steps, with the exception of looking for firmware, because I'm certain it has it, being that the card works when I'm running Windows, and overall the system recognizes the device.
The only difference is, I notice that the activity light on the card itself does not turn on when running openSUSE. It recognizes the card, it even detects the network, but when I enter the WEP key and finish, it does nothing afterwards. Still no internet.
Card: Linksys WMP54G v4.1
Well this my first time working with linux and openSUSE, and I love it. But one problem I can't overcome is my network card is not working. I went to bestbuy and bought the dynex enchanced wireless G card.
Model # dx-ebnbc
ver. 1011
I installed wine to run the .exe but that did nothing and gave me that the dll is not registered. openSUSE detects that the card is plugged in but the card does not light up or activate in anyway. The only way I can connect to the net is through an Ethernet cable.
To become familiar with unix I decided to install a partition of openSUSE. I'm currently running 11.4 and how to get my wireless card working. I know that I have an RTL8188CE. I downloaded the realtek drivers from Realtek However, when I try to execute the make command I get the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.5-default/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2
I've made sure that I've installed the packages in both the base development and the C, C++ packages. I looked under the base development package and know for sure that i have make installed. I'm not really what i'm missing
I'd like to buy an USB 2.0 external sound card It's not a multichannel-sorround, It would be just a 2-channel-stereo sound card that converts the USB signal in others digital audio signals (electric and/or optical) so that someone can connect their Hi-Fi or DVDplayer to their computers.
So... In particular, it would be a digital USB-to-SPDIF 24bit/96KHz and USB-to-AESEBU interface. I can tell you that similar USB 1.1 (16bit/48KHz) devices work all with Linux also. I'm not that sure about USB 2.0 interfaces. I know that ALSA drivers go up to 24bit/96KHz and that for sure some of these devices work with Linux also, but I can't tell anything about many others. These interfaces work with MacOSX, no-driver-required. QUESTION: is it true that every audio interface that works on MacOSX without requiring any additional driver, will work also on Linux for sure? I was told so once, by a friend of mine.
I have a hp zd 7000, i really like this laptop, the onboard ethernet will not work at all. i purchased a dynex wired ethernet pcmcia card to get on the internet with. i have had no luck getting on the internet with it it will light up so i am getting power but no transmitting light works at all i have three net work cards listed in the system. one is the wireless. and the other two are the wired eth0 is the onboard and eth2 is the dynex what can i do next to determine the problem i do not use the wireless at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA wifi card with the ath5k driver used to work properly until a couple of weeks ago. Now, if I ping the router the response times sometimes are okay but often fluctuate into the range of many hundreds or thousands of milliseconds. Occasionally the connection breaks down entirely. My laptop, which uses a different card, works fine (typical ping response times of 2 ms), so its probably not the router which is faulty.I use opensuse 11.3 x86_64, currently with the 2.6.34.7-0.7 desktop kernel and knetworkmanager

If i run lspci it shows lan card model, but lan card is not working. How do i check my lan card driver is installed or not?
Is there any way to list all installed drivers with hardware information like we have device manager in windows.
I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"
lspci output:
Quote:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8151 v1.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
How can I check which module is being loaded in the 32bits installation to try to load it manually in the 64 bits installation?
i have a little experience with ubuntu but i have had bugs that are not resolvable at this time in ubuntu. so instead of giving wild bill back my pc i am looking for a new distro. my concerns with ubuntu revolve around acpi. no fan control and high temp. the 2nd problem that is almost overlookable is the ata1 softreset error. it usually is no problem but occasionally have to do manual fsck to fix. so heres my laptop specs. toshiba a305d-s6848. amd turion x2 ati x1250 integrated. 3gb ram. 500gb hd vista and ubuntu 9.04 dual boot grub with 100gb ubuntu and the rest vista. so q1= what suse version would be best?
q2= is suse's acpi better? ubuntu runs all features but fan control
q3= is suse as easy to install? or harder
q4= ati graphics i know for my card went to legacy what version still has the ati drivers for my card
q5= is suse easier or harder to work with and get everything working.
i know no linux is or opsys is perfect. im just looking for one that is stable and works the pc correctly. i know its a big thing to ask. i know no one can tell me that. but just looking for suggestions. im thinking of downloading suse and does all the downloads support live sessions.
I got a vaio vgn-ar21s laptop that under yast reports to have a tv card: saa7131/saa7133/saa7135 Video Broadcast Decoder
However if I try to choose a tuner (bottom on the right bottom of the yast window for Manual TV card selection, I get "No tuner is available for the selected card".Can this be set up somehow under opensuse 11.2 ? I am running kernel 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop x86_64
The card works under windows (I can see most digital tv channels [I am in the UK]), but I would prefer to use it under opensuse, of course.
I have a dual-boot PC (Windows 7 and Ubuntu w/current updates) with a USB hub PCI card. The card works fine in Windows, but is completely dead in Ubuntu, there is not even any power at the card's ports. How do I get Ubuntu to activate the card?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop pc which is running Ubuntu 9.10, and for some apparent reason I am not getting sound from my sound card. No error message is coming from o/s, I have checked the sound card with head phones, still no sound. Now, I have checked my sound card, because on the same desktop pc, I have another hard drive, which runs Windows XP Professional, and my sound card works perfectly! Please note that I have two hard drives on my pc, one for Ubuntu and the other for XP. So, there is no conflict on operating systems.Does anyone know how I can resolve my sound problem - my sound card is a Creative Audigy 2 Sound Blaster.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had problems with my TV card working in 9.10 and 10.04. A fix was suggested to go back to a working kernel. In my case it was in 9.04. Could you give us working kernels in synaptic that we could use or test in 9.10 or 10.04? My attempts at installing kernels, or any program for that matter, from any place but synaptic or add/remove programs has usually ended in disaster.

How do I go about getting this working? --I'm trying to make sure the card works before I mess with myth-setup anymore.
Note: in MythTV I don't get the "Scan Channels" option, so I'm not sure what to do there.Note: Cable source is my college campus cable.
A friend gave me a version if Ubuntu called "Lubuntu" to run on an older laptop of mine. The laptop does not have wifi or an ehternet connection. However, While using windows I was still able to access the internet by using a PCI card which created a wired ethernet connection for the laptop. I was able to install Lubuntu on the laptop, but for some reason it is not recognizing, or even noticing, the PCI card. What should I do to get internet working on this laptop again?

I have some problems with my WiFi card I'm configuring for Debian Wheezy. I've used it in other computers successfully (It's a USB device), but this box doesn't seem to be able to recognize it or use it properly.
I've identified the card using Code: Select alllsusb with the output Code: Select allBus 001 Device 002: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]
I've used the Wheezy docs to download the firmware necessary and it apparently is supposed to run fine with this firmware, but nothing is working. There was mention to a GitHub repository of a fixed version of the driver in question, which didn't work either.
i have a problem with my 8gb mirco SD card. I have to make an ext3 partition on it, but the system do not even recognize it. I have tried with a 2gb card and everything is working right, so the problem isn't my netbook's card reader (it's a samsung n220).
