We had purchased a new DELL R310 & T310 server for our office use. We had purchased this server mainly for our new online software use. When we tried to install Centos as well Debian we are facing problem in the hardware driver compatibility mainly in Raid Card. How to install this, is there any other version of Linux available which supports this hardware.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
I have tried both the i386 (worked) and x86 64 dvd iso installations. Both sha1sum results don't match. I got a torrent copy and it's sha1sum doesn't match either.
The problem is with the x86 64 iso dvd. It boots but takes a long time(2-3 minutes)to load ata_piix driver when the title bar says Loading SCSI driver. After it finishes loading that driver, when prompted for the installation method, if I select CD/DVD, I'm prompted to select a driver or install disk for driver. I've tried several different generic ata drivers from the list and end up with a strange memory map interwoven with a multi color(red, white and blue)
copied output as best I can.

I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron N5010 Laptop....and I am facing a lot of problems as most of the hardware seems to have no driver installed.... I am a not an expert, so the problems seem overwhelming to me. I have looked around for solutions on the Internet...but there seems to be no collective solution to my problem. i can use internet in my Laptop. My laptop is only connected with wireless. No cable connection avilable here. Wireless is functioning well in windows 7 but in openSuSe 11.2 it is not functioning. I've searched on this issue in net and found that i've to install Packman repository or install driver from broadcom website. Please help me by giving easy way to do so. Currently have just Linux on my main computer (brother built it for me, knew I wanted to try Linux, so just put Ubuntu on).
Old computer (very old, 256MB Ram etc) runs Windows 2000 very slowly, currently will only start up in safe mode (not sure whether this is because it's not currently attached to the router or printer, or whether more serious).
I'd like to put linux (qimo, DSL or puppy probably) on the old computer so my 3-year-old can use it instead of demanding the penguin game (tuxpaint) whenever I want to use my computer!
So, wondering whether to try and shrink the windows partition or whether to just go for linux only. That computer was second-hand as well, so I don't have the windows disks.
The two things I'm worried about:
1) sometimes do some web design, and how would I check whether IE will display my pages without strange problems 'cos it doesn't follow the standards...
2) printing out photos at short notice: husband picked the printer so we're lumbered with a canon pixma MX700. It can do basic printing but won't communicate with linux to do photo quality (no linux drivers...) If I have plenty of time I use a photo printing service such as photobox.
Any thoughts how I can get round these problems so I can just jettison windows without worry? I don't have the spare cash to buy windows 7 or whatever to run in a virtual box...

The latest driver I can find is: Intel(R) Graphics Driver - Linux*[IntelGraphics_060704.tar.gz] dated 12/17/2004 Version 20041217 When I started to install this driver I got a message that said that it was compatible with kernel version 2.4.(+ numbers I don't remember) So I stopped the installation. My question is what will / could happen if I go ahead and try to complete the driver install? Will I hose the entire system? I am fiddling with the kernel if I continue to install the driver.
IF it does break, would it be possible to undo the driver install using the text based root console with networking via the recovery option or will that too be inoperable if I hose the system. Should it break and I can get to the recovery option and open a terminal. How would i uninstall it? I am just getting reacquainted with Linux again after 20 years. I am not using the advanced package management tool to install the driver. The driver has it's own installation script. (have not looked to see if it has an uninstall script in the file list) I won't be able apt-get remove or dpkg purge anything.
Fedora is having trouble identifying a raid partition, it sees them as separate drives. I got drivers from dell, but during a Fedora dvd install, it mentions nothing about a place to install extra drivers.
When it says it must "initialize" the drives, Fedora then breaks the dell bios raid. How to either install the dell drivers or make Fedora see the raid partition as one?

I use it on a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook (that boots Mac OS X from its SSD). An ubuntu persistent liveusb works just great for occasional linux development and testing, but ubuntu 9.10 will be EOL next year, and I want to stay current.

After I've booted the liveusb, under the network menu I see this:

A menu appears that looks like a PCI card with a lock on it. I select the only item under that menu, "Install Drivers". This gives a dialog that says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system. Proprietary drivers do not have public source code..." etc. Under Ubuntu 9.10, I could at this point select "Broadcom STA wireless driver" and click the "Activate" button, and it would work. So I did that in 10.04.1.
It says, "Downloading and installing driver..."
While it's doing this, the "kerneloops" menu item appears. Then a dialog that says,
Sorry, the package "bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 +bdcom-0ubuntu3" failed to install or upgrade.
Then another dialog that says
SystemError: installArchives() failed.
What the heck is happening here?
Well, it turns out that the error messages are wrong. I restarted and the DM9/ubuntu 10.04.1 was able to connect to the wireless network.
tl;dr: Proprietary wireless driver installation works, but it claims that it doesn't.
I am new to ubuntu server. Currently I am running Ubuntu 9.10 server edition. I installed tomcat6 downloaded from apache site and started. But can't run the war file and cant even shut it down. I am running tomcat with default port 8080 and 8005 for shutdown port. I have reinstalled tomcat over and over again. Ubuntu desktop version is running on my pc, everything fine there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell PowerEdge 300 SC that won't boot to the Fedora ISO image burned to the CD. I unpacked the .iso and the CD has the boot, isolinux and LiveOS folders visible. In the BIOS, I put the CD driver ahead of the hard drive in the boot sequence. It just doesn't see it. Is my hardware simply obsolete?

I have installed ubuntu 7.10 and after a huge amount of google work got all my hardware in line. Then I realised that I should have installed 10.10 So I downloaded and burnt the new ISO and tried to install it. The install does not recognize my Xircom RealPort Ethernet card but that is okay, 7.10 didn't either and I got it working post install. But 10.10 can't detect the pci hard drive. I have tried various things but since I am not that familiar with linux I am just stabbing in the dark.
What bios settings should I be aiming for? What boot options should I set and how? Why are the russians being such kill joys over the discovery of fossilized meteorites?
Does anyone know if I need to build the proprietary ATI drivers specifically for 32-bit, or do the 64-bit packages take care of 32-bit compatibility? If so, how would I do that?

I've been a Xubuntu/Ubuntu/Lubuntu hobby user for about 18 months now. I started using Linux as a way to revive older computers provide a backup and expand my knowledge of computing. The command line was something new to me but as long as I can find detailed directions on how to do what I want I can usually manage. I set up a Samba server for my home shared network and now I'd like to make the shared drives of that server accessible from outside my network. Via ssh or ftp or some program of the like. I'd like to have it user name and password protected. Configurable user rights would be nice. (read/write/delete/etc) As well as novice user friendly.
My end goal is a server with read/write capability that I will be able to access from work or a friends house or anywhere with an Internet connection and my laptop. I understand about port forwarding and have done so with my home network behind an AT&T U-verse router/modem. I've researched openssh and some ftp setups but they seem like they can be difficult. Now for the questions. Is this task something that can be accomplished without a degree in computer networking? Is there a program(s) that would make this a simpler task? Is this more complex than its worth? How would I go about setting up such a thing?

I've been configuring a kickstart installation of Fedora 14, and everything was working fine on a slightly older Dell Precision 490. The machines we're actually going to use, are Dell Precision T7400, and when I tried on thoseit had some issues with the SAS controller, and is unable to see the hard drive in the machine. we have a laptop (dell latitude xt) on our company, and we would like to install ubuntu on it. windows 7 works fine out of the box, so the hardware is fine.since this laptop has a touchscreen we just installed ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition 32x.But, we do not manage to enable the touchscreen, neither the vga graphic drivers.

Windows Device Manager tells me that my card is "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Minicard" made by Broadcom. I don't know if my problem is with a driver or incompatible hardware, the ISO is perfect because I already installed linux on every computer in my house.
