Hardware :: Canon MP210 + Jetdirect 175x?

Oct 26, 2010

I have been trying to use the above printer as a network printer by connecting it to the HP Jetdirect 175x gizmo. However, nothing I do works. I have been round and round the configuration roundabout both on the JD and the CUPS Server without joy. I recently had the chance to put an HP printer on the JD and there was no problem configuring CUPS to use the networked printer. The issue seems to be that the JD and the Canon are not talking.

Whereas I could print the JD's config page to the HP (there's a wee button on the JD that does this), I could not get it to print when the Canon was connected. The JD has 4 or 5 options as to which language it will use to "talk" to the Canon for this purpose but none of them works. The JD knows that the Canon is connected because, via its web interface, it shows me the make and model etc. The config page via the web interface shows that it is communicating with the Canon in "Bi-directional" mode whereas it was using "IEEE 1284.4" for the HP. Any attempt at printing results in the JD replying with "FF" and immediate shutdown of the connection. Is it a lost cause to try to get the Canon operational using the JD or does anyone have some voodoo?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon MP210 Via Jetdirect 175x?

May 20, 2010

I got hold of an HP Jetditect 175x and thought I'd try to use it to get network printing other than via a dedicated server box. Managed to get into it and reconfigured it to have an address on the network. Downloaded and RPM'd the canon drivers and have tried to get the printer configured via YaST using both the TCP/Jetdirect route and the LPD route but no joy. Port 9100 is configured on the JD and it comes up in YaST as well. LPD is also opened on the JD - as is Appletalk but that's for the kids . The JD reports that it has a "MP210 Series" printer attached. Is this just a case of the JD wont allow a non-HP printer to run?

Fedora :: Get A Canon MP210 Printer/scanner To Run?

I want to get my Canon MP210 printer / scanner working under Fedora 8 Linux. When I plug the USB cable in, I get a little popup with a setup wizard, but my printer isn't even in that list. I've tried the system-config-printer wizard as well as going in through the control panels and trying everything reasonable.

Hardware :: Trying To Print On HP JetDirect Network Printer

Dec 10, 2010

I'm getting mad trying to use a HP Business Inkjet 2200 over the network with my brand new Fedora 14 box.. The detection part is OK but I can print only 1 page, whatever it is: the test page or the first page of a document. After that, the printer is locked in "print" mode and no one can print any more until it was power down and powered up again. I say that it is locked in "print" mode because its LCD screen displays "print" instead of "ready".

I've tried all the different drivers available (foomatics and other gutenprints).I've tried with the JetDirect protocol or through a samba share.Always the same result: only one page printed then locked for every one..I'll try to find a way to attach the cups troubleshoot and a wireshark capture, they're to big for now..Could any body help me ? If not for me, do it for the community: my colleagues there all say that's normal since I'm using linux!!!

Ubuntu :: Can't Print With Canon MX860

Jun 6, 2010

I cannot print with my Canon MX860. I have downloaded the proper drivers from the Canon Europe website and forced the arch to x64 as described on many sites. When I try to print a test page I get the error that "Idle - /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed". I have checked in lib64 and pstocanonij was there as well. If I change the URI from USB to CNIJUSB then I get the error that "cnijusb has failed". It may be possible to get this working as in another forum someone claims to be successful. I am able to use the scanner with the sane-backends package, so that is not a problem.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: How To Install Canon MP190 (11.2 X64)

Mar 20, 2010

i am having trouble installing my multifunctional Canon MP190 under openSUSE 11.2 x64. I have downloaded the 32-bit drivers (there are no 64-bit drivers available) from Canon 's site (PIXMA MP190) in .rpm format but that 's about it This is what i have done so far:

1) I untarred the file i downloaded ("MP190_RPM_drivers.tar")

2) Inside there are 2 more tar files

- MP190_RPM_printer.tar
- MP190_RPM_scangear.tar

3) Trying at first to install the printer functionality, i untarred the "MP190_RPM_printer.tar" file and i got 3 more files

- cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386.rpm
- cnijfilter-mp190series-3.00-1.i386.rpm
- cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.tar.gz

4) I tried clicking the file "cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386.rpm" but it gives me an error saying:

Code:

Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: Failed dependecies:

libpopt.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386

OpenSUSE Hardware :: How To Install A Canon MX330

Apr 8, 2010

Im attempting to install a Canon MX330 as my default printer. I have made reference to several posts that deal with Canon printers and have followed them without success.

I first searched [URL] for the appropriate drivers and came up with -cnijfilter-common-3.10-1.i386.rpm and cnijfilter-mx330series-3.10-1.i386.rpm.I then issued rpm -ivh for both, but got the error message libpopt.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter.I then issued ls -l /usr/lib/libpng* and saw that libpng.so.3 wasn't found. I next issued zypper in libpng3 and then -- ln -l usr/lib64/cups /usr/lib/cups and ln -l usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanoni /usr/lib64/cups/filter Then I issued /etc/init.d/cups restart. Finally, I entered ln -s /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij /usr/lib64/cups/filter. ls -l /usr/lib/libpng* shows ---

and smoltGui shows that the driver for the printer is still unknown.If I try to use Cups to install the printer, I can't get past the screen that asks for the driver, since my driver is not listed and I don't know how to enter both drivers as new PDDs.

Ubuntu :: Transferring Pics From A Canon Camera?

May 12, 2010

I have a Canon Powershot A470 digital camera and can't get to transfer the pictures from it on Ubuntu 10.04. When I had Ubuntu 9.04 I imported pictures from the same camera without any problems. I considered that the problem could be the camera itself or the USB cable, but I have just accessed my pictures from that camera using Windows Vista.

Basically, what I have tried is 1) connecting the USB cable to the camera and the computer; 2) set the command button to the playback position; 3) turn on the camera. Using Windows Vista, this series of procedures opens the camera folder (as a flash drive) on Windows Explorer and this is what used to happen when I was using Ubuntu 9.04. I expected this to happen using the Lucid Lynx, but I didn't get even close. I even opened the Home Folder to see if something new showed up there when I hooked up the camera and turned it on.

Since I'm new with Ubuntu (especially the Lucid Lynx), I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have read that sometimes we have to mount devices in order to get them to communicate with the computer. Is this one of those cases? If so, how do I do it? Does anyone else have the same model of digital camera? How do you guys transfer the pictures to your Ubuntu-based system?

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - Printing From Canon Pixima IP1700?

I have recently lost the use of my schools printers (schools out of session), and found myself in need of printing a document. I've searched through the Software Center, and found an assortment of printer related software, but I don't know how to use any of it to allow my computer to print this single, lonely page.nDoes anyone have any advice as to how to connect a computer to a printer? Beyond putting the long cord into the USB thingy, that is, and preferably without using TurboPrint, or any other software that leaves a banner?

Ubuntu :: Canon MX340 Printer Not Printing?

Been using ubnutu gnome for a loooong time and my printer (Canon MX340) has been running just fine, configuration and usage.

I now switch to kde. configure my printer the same way i would under gnome and as soon as i send a job, it processes for about 3 seconds and just marks "stopped" under status. nothing goes through anymore!!

i've updated from 4.5 to 4.6 with backports and nothing is happening on there either.

im running maverick amd64 and using the i386 drivers (with dpkg -i --force-all) which are still recognized even under kde.

p.s.: the printer normally runs as wireless standalone (no samba/cups involvment whatsoever)
