My laptop has an integrated DVD+/-RW drive. I have lots of trouble burning CDs and DVDs making distro and archive data media.
I download an ISO of some distro image. Open the download folder and double-click to lauch my favorite burn tool -- usually Brasero but I'm starting to like K3B. When the software first touches the media, I get errors that the media is not blank or has out-of-box errors.
I've tried waiting for software to ask for media and having media in place when I launch the tool. Yes, the media is blank, unwritten, brand new from the box. (Okay, it is not a box but a tube of media so I know there will be a few which are zorch OoB. However, I'm seeing 20% trouble rate.)
I am using Sandisk 2GB micro SD card on ARM processor EP9307A. The card is detected, mounted. I can read data from the SD card. But cannot write to it. There is no error when I attempt to write to the Card. It appears as if its working fine. But after umount and re-mount, the data written is gone.
Here is the log when the SD card is detected: # insmod drv card size = 1977614336, sector size = 31, wp_grp_size = 127, wp_grp_enable = y S:00001000 M:fffff000
What is the significance of Write Group Protect Enable (wp_grp_enable=y). Is it the case that the SD card is write protected.
Using CMD9 : SEND_CSD , I can read the Card Specific Data (CSD). I have tried CMD27 : PROGRAM_CSD , to CLEAR wr_grp_enable : No effect seen. I have tried CMD29 : CLEAR_WRITE_PROT ,: No effect seen.
Where is the issue, 1. I could not send commands properly. 2. Card cannot be set free from WRITE_PROTECT. 3. Something else.
I want to write a shell script which will simultaneously collect OS user information and write in an individual text files. Can anyone tell me the syntax of the script.N.B. The user name will be mentioned in an array within the shell script.
I have a 14TB raid, file system is read-only and I am trying to run e2fsck -B -p -C -v -y /dev/sdb1, it goes through, but fails and says bad block/inode or fails to transfer, something like that.Is there a way I can get this to run successful, this is a production storage server, its critical.
df -h [URL] I did the following command to find everything is in /usr or /var, then tracked it down to /usr/lib and /usr/share as the main offenders, but out of all the directories none are more than 1mb or so.
du -sh /* | sort -gr | head -n 5
I tried to uninstall firefox, which is what got me in this mess in the first place, the log claims it will remove ~240 mb but failes on a "E: Write error - write (28 No space left on device)" [URL] If I could juggle something onto an external hard drive so I can uninstall firefox I would be out of the wood. Failing that I believe a new install is in order.
I am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....
My problem lies within K3b, and burning audio CD's. When I do a system check, no problems are found, however when I attempt to burn a CD I'm stuck at this screen. No matter how long I wait, it seems k3b won't write to the cd. I've been trying for hours to get this program to work, but nothing seems to help. [URL]
I have downloaded Fedora 14 32 bit from Fedora project site. Here it is

The file I have downloaded to my Windows 7 Ultimate drive is named Fedora-14-i386-DVD.torrent on the above page. It is 3.4 Gb DVD iso. I am trying to write it to a DVD (brand new and not damaged at all) but for some reason it does not get written. I am using the in-built DVD burning facility in Windows 7 ultimated OS. I assume that once the iso is written to a DVD it extracts many files to DVD, right?
I have just installed 10.04 onto a brand new HD and cannot access my old drives for lack of permission. I've tried various "sudo chmod 777" combinations to no avail.
I'm trying to help my family burn an image to dvd and I can't see the inserted dvd when running brasero with X forwarding over ssh. Any advice? I also can't see the dvd when running nautilus or really anything else.
I just did a fresh install of Fedora 11 and added Raid 1 following this tutorial:[URL].. Now I see the filesystem when I open 'Computer' in the GUI, and I open it and see 'lost+found', but i can't write to the drive. The option is simply greyed out. And when I view Properties on the drive and go to Permissions, it says 'The permissions of {driveid} could not be determined.'
I am trying to install grub in MBR. I have working configuration on my root partion. I tried "grub-install" on MBR but gives me some warning.
Code: /usr/sbin/grub-install /dev/sda
WARNING! You are trying to invoke the unsupported grub-install script with a parameter. To really do this, call grub-install.unsupported. You should rather call "yast2 bootloader" or create configuration files appropriate for the intended target. Also I tried it from Yast but still MBR has Chamelon boot loader.(I have chamelon boot loader, I want to overwrite my MBR with current grub configuration on my root partition.)
I tried using grub-install.unsupported but it did not work either. it says: /dev/sda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.
I tried grub-editor (kde module) to do the work, but it gives me error: grub-install returned and unknown error exit code 1.
I have made an update to 11.3 which brought along a lot of trouble, which I may have caused by mixing the use of YAST and CLI zypper, but most bugs are sorted out except that my OpenOffice does not save to my server, other applications do without hesitation. Have defined the target with NFS shares, no NFSv4, all defaults.
I've installed a new harddisk in my computer. I've created a new primary partition on it and formated it with ext3. If i mount it now, i always get "permission denied" if i want to write something to it..
ive tried my hand and failed. My friend was using my computer nad he didnt safely remove his USB MP3 and now it is write protected. Ive tried windows diskpart (nothing), ive tried fsck ("disk maybe in use?"), i tried to format(write protected)ive tried otehr USB slots and other computers. This has happened to me sooo many times and i can never find a damn thing about it, can some one tell me how to fix this??? There has to be a simple fix as it is such a simple issue, an issue any one who has used windows for 90% of their computing history could make
I have installed Jaunty on my laptop. I have a dual boot with Windows 7 and I've set up access to my windows partition. I can read and write to the music and photos directories but I can't write anything to My Documents in the windows file system. I have tried in Gnome and from a terminal and checked that I have write permissions set correctly.
For example in the My Documents directory:
Code: $ mkdir test mkdir: cannot create directory `test': Operation not supported
I get the same message if I try to rename My Documents using either mv in the terminal or the Rename option in gnome.
I have tried almost everything and still can't write to the SMB share on my ubuntu machine from my mac. The [media] section is the folder that I'm trying to enable write access for.
I only have an ubuntu machine here, but I wish to transfer some files to her mac via my external hard drive. I only have an ubuntu machine here. I managed to make an hfs+ partition on my external hard drive using gparted after installing hfsprogs. I tried changing the permissions with chmod. The ls -l command yields:ls -l /dev/sdc1 brwxrwxrwx 1 root disk 8, 33 2010-05-24 10:53 /dev/sdc1
i do 10.4. as recently as two weeks ago, i could use my mp3 player as a usb drive. now the player is still auto mounted, but i can't copy/paste to it or cut files from it. i do see it in rhythmbox, but when i right click and choose "eject", the drive unmounts and the mount process starts over. when i check permissions, i see that i am "read only".
I have tried for some time to write an .img file to a USB and a SD Card to boot from to my Netbook. The .img file is from Moblin and they suggest that I use Win32 Disk Imager to write the file to my USB. Though it haven't worked for me even if i use the SD Card and other computers.
The easiest for me would be if i could write the .img file on my SD Card and i have search for some tutorials but haven't found a way to write the file.
I've read something about "dd" but don't get the "command", "code" - thingy. If any one know an easy tutorial for it would be great! Or even better would be a tip to another program/utility like the Win32 Disk Imager that works.
I Use a Windows 7. HP Pavilion Elite and a Windows XP. Compaq Mini 110
