General :: Windows - Use A Computers (would Be) Audio Output As A Stream?

Feb 28, 2010

I have two machines on a local area network (xp box and xubuntu box) and I want audio from both machines to be played from the same set of speakers. The problem is, the xubuntu machine doesn't have any sound output. There is no onboard sound card and all expansion slots are pci-x, so short of buying a pci-x sound card my only option for playing sound is to route audio through LAN to my xp computer.

I already have a program that will let me play music on one computer from another's speakers, but I am trying to set up a stream so that games and internet sound can be heard. Is it possible for me to do this?

General :: Windows - Send The Same Audio Output To Two Audio Devices?

Aug 23, 2010

Say I have 2 speakers connected to 2 different sound cards. Under Windows, is it possible to have some sort of virtual device that would forward an audio stream to both sound cards? If this can't be easily done under Windows, a solution for Linux is also fine. lternatively, if the 2 speakers are connected to different channels of a sound card, is there any vendor-independent way to duplicate audio to both channels?

Ubuntu :: Streaming Audio - Capture Outgoing Audio On Windows Computer - Stream It Across Wifi To Netbook

Sep 20, 2010

I am fed up of listening to my (Windows XP) gaming computer through headphones so I want to get it hooked to the stereo.

Rather than use a heck of a lot of wire, I can sit my Ubuntu 9.10 netbook on top of the stereo and stream the audio across WiFi.

So, ideally what I am after is something to capture the outgoing audio on the Windows computer, stream it across the wifi to the Ubuntu netbook and finally play it through the speakers.

Software :: Instantly Audio Streaming To Other Computers (including Windows)?

Dec 11, 2009

I am looking for some easy to use cross-platform audio software that can send live audio from my Windows XP PC to other computers (laptop/netbook/MID) in the network. Mine MID is Meamo Linux device. When I mean audio, I talking about whatever is coming out mine PC sound card at any point (music, video's audio, XP sounds clicks, etc). Also, the audio MUST BE live, aka no delay between between computer.Basically, the idea to is to "send/stream" audio to other PC over wifi/network so all the sounds are sync. Sort of like a whole house audio system, but one that uses computers so I don't need to buy any additional equipment. Also, it would be nice if the client software worked on other OS, like Linux.I have been looking some software solutions with no luck. I tried UPnp (shoutcast/Icecast) servers, however all of them have 1 Sec to 10 second of delay.Again, I am looking for something instant.I have also looked at pulse audio, however the setup seem too complicated for Windows especially.

General :: File Output Redirection - Redirect Stream To Multiple Files?

Dec 7, 2010

I'm working on some scheduled task script files to keep nightly backups of some of our database information in place, and it's a bit annoying when they blow up. I know how to redirect stdout and stderr to a flat file I can view when I come in, and I know that 2>&1 maps them both to the same file (whatever was named in 1). However, I'm running into some cron-time situations where it's easier to have the two streams together, and other cron-time situations where it's easier to have them separated. I can't really tell which is going to happen; is there some way I could create both kinds of output file for my scripts, so that I've got a std_err only file and an interleaved std_out/std_err file?

Note: I've looked at the 'tee' command, but I don't think it will work for what I'm after. 'tee' appears to only work with stdout; I'm trying to work with stderr.

General :: Mplayer Just Starts Playing The Audio Stream From The Beginning?

I have and avi file and an ac3 file that contains an alternate audio stream. I run mplayer like: mplayer -audiofile foo.ac3 bar.avi

mplayer takes the audio stream from the ac3 file as expected, but when I try to scroll the video using arrows or pgup/pgdown keys, the audio gets desynced: mplayer just starts playing the audio stream from the beginning. Do I have to pass any additional command line arguments in order to make it scroll properly without desyncing audio?

Software :: Stream Movies And Music From Home Server To Other Computers On Network

I have a debian home server right now, I'm using samba for my file server but I was wanting to stream my movies and music to my other computers. My family (the other users on the network) are NOT computer savvy, and to top it off they are using both Windows (xp) and Mac (Snow Leopard) machines. So I'm looking for software that is simple to use that will allow other operating systems to use it. I would think the easiest way would be to stream the music/movies through a home website. I have seen quite a few programs out there that stream music, but none for movies.

General :: Audio Output - How To Configure MPD For ALSA

Jan 30, 2010

I just got rid of pulseaudio because it breaks in so many different situations. I've switched to Alsa, and all of my sound is working except in mpd. It seems like I have to set audio_output in /etc/mpd.conf. Here is my config file:

audio_output {
type "alsa"
driver "pcm"
name "whatever"
}

When I start mpd, this is what happens:
$ sudo mpd --no-daemon --stdout --verbose
playlist: play 1:"Party Playlist/01 Block Rockin' Beats.mp3"
decoder: audio_format=44100:24:2, seekable=true
alsa: default period_time = buffer_time/4 = 371519/4 = 92879
alsa: buffer_size=16384 period_size=4096
output: opened plugin=alsa name="My MPD Alsa Output" audio_format=44100:24:2
playlist: queue song 2:"Party Playlist/01 Umbrella [Feat. Jay-Z].mp3"
output: closed plugin=alsa name="My MPD Alsa Output"
^Clisten: listen_global_finish called
db_finish took 0.000000 seconds

And I hear the song play for less than a second before the audio_output driver is closed. There really aren't any error messages printed explaining why it's not working. I've also tried "oss", "esd" and "ao" for the audio_output type, and none of them work.

Software :: How To Stream All Audio Through VLC?

Feb 7, 2011

We have remote offices and we'd like all announcements in one office to stream to the other offices, to play on the speakers connected to VLC machines there. We can stream audio with VLC when working with a file, but how would we stream all audio produced by a single machine?

Ideally this would stream anything coming in from AUX/Line-In jack, as well as any other sound that the computer would make. I'd prefer to use cvlc (CLI version) rather than the GUI VLC, but whatever I can get would be good.We can run either Debian 5.0.x Lenny with 0.8.6.h-4+lenny2, or Debian 6.0.x Squeeze with 1.1.3-1squeeze2

General :: Windows 7 - Properly Stream Media From Torrent Box *without* Transcoding?

Jan 29, 2011

I have a torrentbox. The special thing about this torrent box is that it's custom built, it has Windows 7 installed and I have full control over it using TightVNC. At the moment I'm using uTorrent WebUI and FTP do download the files. But I'm thinking - When I download a 1,5 hour long video in 30 minutes, wouldn't it be theoretically possible to just WATCH the movie directly from the torrentbox? Obviously this can't be dont using FTP since it makes you download the entire file, BUT:

Is there some other way to fool your OS into thinking that this is a local folder, and get media players like VLC or GOM player to play video files directly? This would be a monumental time- and space saver for me.(I have both Windows and Linux Mint on my PCs)

General :: Set Default System Audio Output Port (for All Accounts)?

May 5, 2010

The default output audio port Ubuntu doesn't work on my system. It should be "Analog Mono Output/Amplifier", instead of "Analog Output/Amplifier". I can easily change that in sound preferences, just by choosing the right port in the "Output" tab. The problem is this would only apply to a single account, and I would like to change it system-wide, so it applies to all accounts on the system (I have more than 100 users...).

Update: I can achieve the same effect as I would by changing it in sound preferences using the following command: pacmd 'set-sink-port' 'alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.5.analog-stereo analog-output-mono;output-amplifier-on' Unfortunately that's still not system-wide,

Ubuntu Multimedia :: FFmpeg Unsupported Codec For Output Stream

Feb 26, 2010

So I've been trying to convert .avi files to .mov using FFmpeg. I input something like this:
Code:
ffmpeg -i in.avi -b 1000 out.mov

And it says:
Code:
Unsupported codec for output stream #0.1
So I tried adding -acodec mp3 OR -acodec libmp3lame and it says unknown codec.

I went to install libmp3lame-dev using
Code:
sudo apt-get install libmp3lame-dev

And it comes up with this:
Code:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libmp3lame-dev

The following packages will be REMOVED:
libdc1394-22{u} libfaac0{u} libxvidcore4{u} linux-headers-2.6.28-11{u}
linux-headers-2.6.28-11-generic{u}
I'm fairly sure I don't want those packages removed? Should mention I'm on Ubuntu 9.04 64-Bit.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Stream Audio From One Machine To The Other

Sep 16, 2010

I have two networked Ubuntu 10.40 machines and I am trying to stream audio from one machine to the other. I find on the surface everything works - I simply installed padevchooser and set the pulseaudio sink to the other machine. Now here comes the problem - whenever I do anything else involving network activity the sound crackles and hangs and it becomes hopeless. I've seen people elsewhere online complaining about crackling in relation to CPU usage but I can't find anyone talking about network usage.

In particular I often work on my office computers over VNC. I try to fire up VNC and it starts to load the remote desktop and the sound completely fails. I assume this is some kind of latency issue? Another good example is trying to watch a video on ..... - the sound plays at first but then as the video is being downloading in the background the stream starts to mess up. Listening to an mp3 in totem with no other network activity works fine.
