How can i convert docx files to pdf format . give applications in both linux and windows platform
I am making a text search engine. I need to first convert binary documents to text. I want to go with cross-platform (we develop both on windows and linux) command line (so that I can get the output via python subprocess). What are the choices for this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was given a 41-page pdf document (+ .docx) with some text/tables/pictures. Upon some audit, just 2 sentences must be changed in the document.
1. When I open it with openoffice (.docx) - the structure of the document really goes wrong. The document is too long to edit it manually to make it look as it's supposed to look.
2. When I open it with softmaker office 2010 (beta!) it crashes every time.
3. Could I edit just the relevant pages of .docx, export them to pdf and REPLACE just the two pages in the pdf file? Or is there any other solution without involving Windows?
I scanned a document in color to PDF, and I don't want to re-scan it.
How can I convert this PDF document to grayscale (preferably without loss of other information)?
My usual toolset of doPDF, pdfsam and the Neevia online converter don't work here. I was thinking I could simply print to PDF and select the Grayscale color option, but doPDF doesn't have that option.
I'm using Windows, but I can probably handle a solution for any OS.
I need to port a framework, the framework is currently in windows msi and exe format. How can I convert the above formats in linux rpm packages.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a Windows XP Home box setup with MySQL, Apache, bind9, phpBB. Then one evening while preparing a Linux replacement my Windows XP Home tower died. It completely croaked. It won't boot up past POST at all. No beep codes or anything! It just sits there with the power on like a brick. I cannot boot it to grab the database through the webserver with any web based MySQL script system. I also do not have another Windows box that I can install MySQL on.
There is no possible way I have to retrieve any MySQL databases that I had on it except by mounting the hard drive where MySQL stored the databases for Windows on it. I've Googled for hours on end trying to find a solution but to no avail. I tried simply copying the contents of the database as-is from where it was on Windows to where it would be on Linux but when I try to browse the phpBB forums I get this error:
[Code]....
What is a good way to do it? I have been trying to do it using sed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have some checksums.md5 verification files from an ntfs external drive, but using windows notation: instead of /, spaces between file names (not escaped), reserved shell characters (like (, &, ', to name a few). The checksums.md5 has a bunch of checksums and filenames:
[code]...
I want to use this checksums.md5 to verify the files that I've copied to my machine: but I'm on a Linux, so I need to convert the names inside checksums.md5 from Windows to Linux to use the md5sum utility from the shell. The first line in my example would become: f12f75c1f2d1a658dc32ca6ef9ef3ffc My Windows & Files (2010)/[bak]/testing.wmv Is there some application for this (converting a file listing, from windows cmd notation, to linux shell notation) or will I need to create a bash script using sed that just "replaces" what is "wrong" with the filenames
I want to convert many text files(copied from windows workstation) into utf-8 encoding file. Yes, iconv is available for it. However, I have to give source file encoding at the command line parameters! The problem is, at most case, I am not sure the source encoding of it. And, I also want to use a script to convert many files recursively.

I'm trying to use convert, I have installed the imagemagick. I use this line:convert *.jpg test.pdf but I'm only able to convert to pdf 1 single jpg file, not multiple files at once. When there's more than one file, I get the following error: Segmentation fault
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have backup outlook.pst files on the non-bootable windows os partition. I can access these backups from the Ubuntu partition, but of course they aren't readable. I understand that one can use Mozilla's Thuderbird on Windows os to establish outlook exportable files for the Ubuntu client,but I don't have that option as my Windows os is not booting. I've found Ubuntu so dependable that I have no interest in attempting another expensive and lengthy recovery process of windows.

Columbus State is tough on that, I need to be able to send documents in 2007 .docx in openoffice 3.3. The only computer that uses windows, is my grandparents and I don't want to buy Office if at all possible. I have like no money after all the text books. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy MailScanner running on CentOs is blocking docx files, saying "The original e-mail attachment "****.docx" is on the list of unacceptable attachments for this site and has been replaced by this warning message.
I've tried adding it the list of allowed files:
/etc/MailScanner/filename.rules.conf:
allow .docx$ - -
but it still blocks them.
I've also tried manually coping the message file from the /var/spool/MailScanner quarantine/ directory into /var/spool/postfix/incoming
but this did not result in the mail being delivered.
I desperately need these mails released, and docx files to be allowed unconditionally. Anyone know why the above isn't working? Failing that, can all file blocking be turned off? I'd rather have virus relayed than legitimate mails blocked.
does anyone know how to open .doc .ppt .xls .docx.... files using java ? i found just Apache POI but it can open just .xls files.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any program in Ubuntu that can open .docx files natively? I know that open office can open .doc files, but I need a program that can open .docx files. It also has to be able to read the embedded data, such as text themes and bibliography data. Conversion is no good. I have been using Office 2007 through Crossover, but for some reason it can only have one window open at a time, which severely limits what I can do.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using 10.10 dual booted with xp and I'm trying to get images that are part of a docx file to open with OO 3.2 in ubuntu
They view fine on xp using OO 3.2 but windows being windows, it won't talk to my printer so I can't print. When I load up ubuntu and OO, the images just aren't there. The rest of the document looks the same however. Am I missing a file in ubuntu or is there a workaround for this?
I have to use and update many documents on a network share in my organization. I am using OpenOffice 3.2 (latest and Greatest). When I go to the document that I need via the network share, I can open up the document no problem at all but the minute I attempt to save it, it will freeze and I have to:
PHP Code:
pgrep soffice| xargs -i kill -9 {}
Kill it. To get it to work I have to save the document from a .docx format to a .doc format then all works well. Unfortunately, all of my coworkers use the latest and greatest of MS Office.
The OpenOffice word processor can open and read Microsoft Word files containing XML (.docx) perfectly well, but it--or KDE--does not seem to recognize a .docx by default. To open one with OpenOffice, I have to manually tell OpenOffice to open it, by going through the "open with" option on the right-click menu and specifying soffice. That's obviously not a problem, but it's a minor curiosity. Haven't Word XML files been around long enough that KDE and OpenOffice should recognize them immediately?
I'm not quite sure which to blame this on--KDE or OpenOffice--but KDE seems more logical. And is this a small limitation of KDE 3.5? because I'm still using 3.5. (I'm trying to switch over to Trinity, but have not made the switch yet.)
I would like to convert my windows PC to Mythbuntu.
I would like assistance with this and would be willing to hire someone to do it for me. How do I find someone to do this?

I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAn easy way to convert wav files into mp3 (or ogg).
$ sudo-apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert mpg321 vorbis-tools lame nautilus-script-manager.
after that run
$ nautilus-script-manager enable ConvertAudioFile
Now, when you right click on audio file, under 'scripts', you will see ConvertAudioFile option.
I have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.
