To any user of kpdf or kghostview: I loaded a .pdf file (ruteUser_2up.pdf) but it seems to come edited in "two pages " format. I mean, every screen shows two consecutive pages of the book. When I choose View>Two Pages (kpdf) in the hope that it will toggle to one page, it does nothing. Is there any way of seeing the book one page per screen?
I'm trying to get the source code of a web page from linux command line and save it to a file. I googled for it but didn't get any info. I'm not sure if wget can do this.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LL and i want to create a html page, in terminal mode, but firefox does not display it correctly. i used this tutorial, http://linuxcommand.org/wss0030.php , but it seems that whatever i do, when i run the page with firefox (x@ubuntu:~/bin$ firefox page.html), the page displays the #!/bin/bash line, it doesn't interpret variables, reserved words, or any other special characters ( $, <<- ). I've tried to change the encoding in firefox from Unicode-8 to Unicode-32 but no luck

Why in expert mode does it look like Partitions 2 and 3 share the same sector / hd / Cylinders? Is this OK?

a2ps -4 1.ps 2.ps 3.ps 4.ps -o outfile.ps
Event through it divide the page into four section. But only give one output of my four input. other three section is blank. Is i am doing some wrong or Is their any other command to do so.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy linux workstation recently crashed. After rebooting, Linux (Red Hat 5.3) will not boot properly and automatically went into emergency mode or recovery mode i think. I can still see my /home/user/ and all the files inside.I boot from CD to rescue mode and tried mounting read-only the /dev/sd5 which contains the files in the crashed hard disk to try to copy out my files but mounting was unsuccessful (invalid argument). I checked the filesystem type using fsck -N /dev/sda5 and shows it to ext2. i tried to mount another known working hdd and was successful.
My question is why in emergency mode, the crashed hdd is able to be mounted automatically as read-only but cannot be done in rescue mode thru a bootable CD?Is there any special mount options used in emergency mode?I also cannot copy out in emergency mode booting from the crashed hard disk as everything is read only.
Im having this issue, when i install fedora 14 with the dvd image by usb it installs successfully, but its forcing the PAE kernel, if i remember correctly the PAE kernel is meant for systems with 4gb ram or better, i have an emachines w3115 with upgraded ram to 2gb ram (not sure if it matters or not but its ??dual channeled??) dual booting windows xp mce and fedora 14. is there a way to get around fedora forcing the PAE kernel at the install process?

I haven't installed crazy stuff on my machine as far i can recall (i used the repositories, except for gtk+3) and i didn't go to any weird website either, same traffic as usual. The only weird thing was that my internet connection was abnormally slow this morning.
Today though some "http://www.browsersearch.org/" imposes itself on my browser even though my homepage is set to www.google.com. I can't figure how this happens nor how i can get rid of it.
Can anyone help me trace this?
How do you set up a linux workstation to act as a gateway for all other PC's in the LAN giving them internal IP's using DHCP, but which also forces all access to the internet to go through a proxy running inside the same linux workstation at 127.0.0.1:9666?the proxy is provided by ultrasurf and run using wine and we do not want to set applications one by one to use a proxy - it must be an automatic effect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my linux machine, I've enforced a password expiry policy every 45 days. So, today when I tried to ssh to the host, I get the typical "WARNING: Your password has expired". Fine, no big deal. But when I enter my new password and confirm, instead of giving me a login prompt, it tells me passwd all auth tokens updated successfully, then next line, "Connection to <host> closed". I can re-ssh back into that host and all is well from here, but it's a nuisance having to go through the extra step. Is this something in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config somewhere or perhaps a PAM config issue?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA computer upgraded from 7.3 to 8.2 suffered a number of stability issues which were traced to systemd having replaced sysvinit in this version. Worst of these was that instead of shutting down it just cut the power instantly, causing disk corruption. Basically, from what I can find out, this systemd component seems like it works OK on a completely fresh install but causes multiple issues if it finds its way onto an updated system. I found some instructions on reinstating sysvinit, which cured the issues.
However, on attempting to install the Brasero CD/DVD app via synaptic, I notice that this will force reinstallation of systemd as a dependency, even though it's been locked-out of updates. Luckily I spotted this in time and cancelled. You really wonder why a CD writing app would need to do this. I certainly seems rather naughty for any desktop package to be changing system startup code in a manner which could break the OS.
At the moment I'm not sure if it's the only app which does this -although k3b seemingly does not. Any thoughts on this gotcha, and how to prevent a repeat, other than being extremely careful when installing anything?
For some reason under Ubuntu 9.10 (x86 and x64), MetaPost refuses to render any images that contain text. If you open the file for Image.1, it opens evince and it hangs indefinitely. I can create images perfectly fine and render this as long as there is no text. Am I missing any specific font packages or something that I should be using? I know that it works under Windows. I also know that on a different machine I had a while back (running Ubuntu 8.04, I believe), I had it working then.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.04 - recently, I have been getting a newsletter from a certain sender. If I select the mail even to delete it ( not opening it ) Evolution promptly shuts down.
So long as I don't even put the mouse cursor on the offending mails, there is no problem. Now, I am building up a nice collection of unread mails which I cannot delete.
Before I submit a bug, I wanted to see if anyone can tell me why this happens. When I first start using UO, it requested that I add my computer to my UO account. I entered the name of my machine, ie. "desktop-name". Once I did that, the music store worked properly, and I was able to use the Evolution Contacts sync and regular files in the ~/UbuntuOne folder. These all showed up in my web interface.
Now, when I set up Tomboy to sync with UO (Tomboy Web), it sends me to the Confirm Computer Access page again, asking me to put in my device name again. So I enter again "desktop-name" and it logs in and Tomboy syncs. The problem is that two devices now show up under Machines, and also under System > Preferences > UbuntuOne > Devices. I've tried deleting both devices, and starting from scratch as described here but it always does the same thing.
Is there a reason I must have two devices listed when I'm on the same system? Has anyone else noticed this? FWIW, each confirmation request lists a different token, it just seems that once I have authorized my system, that all the sync connections should auth under the same credentials.
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 x86_64 on system with Adaptec U160 and 2 Ultra160 HD. It is not part of a network and iSCSI is not wanted. But the installer keeps selecting iSCSI automatically and won't let me change it. I try to do a "replace linux system" with my own partition scheme-which preserves the partitions already on this drive. I eventually have to exit the installer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Linux, tried Ubuntu, had slow boot problems, tried openSUSE 11.1, still have slow boot problems. The issue seems to be that the ata.0 device is slow to respond (ERROR= -16), the boot system forces a hard reset, then a soft reset, configures for UDMA 133, says the drive is ready, then does it again, three times, and then configures the drive for UDMA 100. It's a brand new Western Digital Caviar drive, and windowsXP likes it just fine. Once SUSE boots, everything seems to work just fine. I thought the problem might be with the drive jumpers, so I reset them from cable detect to master/single. No change in the problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed Xubuntu 10.04 on a new desktop and I have immediately begun to have issues. Within 10 minutes of installation, I had begun to look around to change the window 'theme' settings. I was scrolling through the themes and BOOM the system blanks out and forces me back to the login. At first I was thinking it was no big deal, but as it turns out, it will not let me back it.Basically, I use my credentials, it appears to login, it goes to a black screen with the cursor at the top left and then sends me back to login like nothing happened.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.10 x64. Got a second monitor and enabled Xinerama. It asked me to restart, I did. I opened ATI Catalyst Control Center after the restart and saw the control panel window open for about half a second before suddenly finding myself at the login screen.
ATI Catalyst Control Center has always seemed to work fine up until I enabled Xinerama. I tried removing the ATI driver, restarting, re-enabling it, restarting, and ATI Catalyst Control Center worked fine again. But, as soon as I enabled Xinerama it went back to logging me out whenever I tried to open the control center. I've tried from the GUI menu as well as the terminal using 'gksudo amdcccle', same result every time.
The dual monitor functionality seems fine, but I need to get back into the control center to adjust the colors. I do a lot of photo editing, and the adjustments in the control center really is a great tool to let me get the colors how I'd like.
On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.

I have a problem printing to my HP printer.
What is my problem? I have a page (one page - text an graphic) to print. When I sent it to my printer it prints OK. When I sent it agian, the output is totally garbled. When I sent it again (a third time) it is OK. Sent it again (4th time) it is garbled. Sent it again ... you get the picture ;-). Alternating good and bad pages.
What is my setup? I run Fedora 14 with Cups 1.4.6. The printer is a HP Deskjet 940C. It is connected to a linksys wireless print server. It is configured in CUPS to use ipp printing. The driver I use in Cups is 'CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified (color, 2-sided printing)'.

But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation
