I want to install veetle in my ubuntu. I have tried everything I could, but no success.Whenever I typed in sudo sh veetle-xxxxx-linux-install.sh (xxxxx:version), and then my password, in the terminal, it always said "can't open the file". Of course, I saved the file in the download first, and made sure allow excutable file box checked. I am new with linux. I am currently reading a book "ubuntu for beginner to professional".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI went to the veetle website, downloaded the file, and then opened a terminal and entered "sh veetle-0.9.17-linux-install.sh"

I am used to using ubuntu but i feel that fedora is alot easier to use out of the box. I was able to install veetle on ubuntu by opening terminal and typing su -c 'sh /home/kevinnicola/Downloads/veetle-0.9.17-linux-install.sh'. But it doesnt work on fedora. It says its intalled sucessfully. But every time i try to watch a veetle stream it says i havnt got the latest version of veetle. Has anyone else got this to work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 64Bit version of SUSE 11.2, KDE 4.4.3, ATI Radeon HD4350 and 4GB of RAM. I downloaded and installed the LINUX version of the veetle player from Veetle using the provided shell script. The installation went smoothly but when I tried to launch it afterwards, I got the image here: Veetle meaning that the installation was probably not successful. Has anyone out there successfully installed the player?

I can't get any features of compiz desktop effects working on a fresh install of Karmic Koala. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with sudo apt-get remove compiz and uninstalled advanced desktop settings through the software center. I am completely up to date.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Xforwarding working in Ubuntu... On the server I have uncommented the following lines of /etc/ssh/sshd_config:
X11Forwarding yes
AllowTcpForwarding yes
Now I try to ssh in, but I get the following error messages (and Xforwarding isn't working).
$ssh -Y example.com
/usr/bin/xauth: /home/dan/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored
$ssh -X example.com
/usr/bin/xauth: error in locking authority file /home/dan/.Xauthority
Ive set a password for root after rebooting tried to su in console and authentication error. however sudo works fine but if your like me using sudo all the time starts getting annoying and at times i find myself apt-getting alot of packages so su is best for me my other 9.10 works fine which i installed from a canoical cd i went through my normal routine of changing my default user permissions.
e.g(add default to everygroup, and set a root password) so after the first time it wouldn't work i remembered that on my other 9.10 i changed the groups that root was in so i did the same thing i did with my default user. well it still doesn't work but i read somewhere that its possible to change it in the console.
I want to work on robotics and added this softwares but its executable file is not working even on wine. This is with every executable file that is not downloaded through internet but added by usb .

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm new at working with Linux based systems.Currently I'm working with a Dell notebook that I installed Ubuntu10.10 on and am having real trouble grasping the method needed to install software and media codecs on it off line.I'm sure it can't be as diffucult as I'm making it and I'm going back to the Ubuntu support center to seek help there.I Love the fact of Linux being open and available for everyone and really want to learn it inside and out.I'm good with MS and like how the system takes over installations of apps, dosen't Linux work in a simular fashion?Or do I need to use a command line interface to acomplish installing the software that I need to build the system I want.I feel really stupid asking,I know I'm missing something obvious that's right in front of me,I'm also going to look into a DOS tutorial.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am using Komodo edit, and it thinks that my current directory is /home/username1/ Yet my files are in /home/username1/workspaces/ruby/project1
Why won't Komodo recognize that my working directy is that of the current file? Same with situation when I use Komodo Edit to launch a command ("ruby [complete path+file name]"), ruby can't find its require dependencies unless I give a complete path because it too seems to think it is working out of /home/username1/
I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome).
Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more
This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding:
Used the regular option pane from System->Preference->Appearance->Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options
My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. I used the ubuntu start script to make a few tweaks.
I am a total computer newbie. I am trying to connect to the internet. I have my internet connection button on my laptop on. But it want let me connect. The Linux software is new to me.I have looked on the forum but everything doesn't seem to be in complete English for me to understand.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and found the following problem: power management doesn't appear to be working. If I'm away from my computer for only a few moments, the screen is on dim when I return and I have to log on again. I've set the following states in Power Management: NEVER SWITCH OFF SCREEN and haven't ticked the DIM WHEN IDLE BOX. Can anyone help with this problem - it's infuriating. Meanwhile, I've gone back to Ubuntu 9.10 ...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using linux for about a year but I'm not a programmer or anything. I recently got a Toshiba Satellite L550 that has a Realtek 802.11b/g wireless LAN. I am using ubuntu 8.10 and everything I've read on this forum and others states that this version of ubuntu can use this device. However, it seems that my system doesn't even know the device is there. When I run "sudo lshw -C network", I get this:
[sudo] password for house:
*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller
vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
[Code]....
None of the descriptions show a wireless device? I'm not sure what this means or what the next step is. My wired connection works fine.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS version in to Asus eeeTopET1610 PT PC. It has the following sound card configuration:
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.23 emulation code)
Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation
Card config:
HDA Intel at 0xfbbf8000 irq 29
Audio devices:
0: ALC887 Analog (DUPLEX)
Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Timers:
7: system timer
Mixers:
0: Realtek ALC887.
There is no audio output coming from the inbuilt speakers. when headphone is connected, audio is available with headphone. But not with the internal speaker when headphone is not connected.
