I have a problem with the ubuntu software center. I can't get authentication to work to install anything. The error I get is:Previous Installation hasn't been completedThe installation could have failed because of an error in the corresponding software package or it was cancelled in an unfriendly way. You have to repair this before you can install or remove any further software.I have no idea how to "repair this". I was trying to install XML copy editor and something happened during installation. Since then I rebooted but nothing seems to fix the error. I looked through the installed software and couldn't find program.I looked for some script solutions but they were for specific programs, not for the software center itself
find /opt/postfix/mail/email.com/~spam/~quarantine/ ( -iname * -o -iname .* ) ! -type p -exec grep -i -c admin@email.com {}; -xdev -print When I do this command I receive this error message: -bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('
I'm trying to install the Sun Java plugin to use in Chrome. The installation seems to have gone well, but I have hit an error trying to create a symbolic link of the libnpjp2.so library in the plugins directory of Chrome.
When typing in "in -s /opt/java/jre1.6.0_26/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so" I get "Syntax error near unexpected token `in' ". I'm not sure what could be wrong, I'm in the right directory.
I am trying to install NS-2.1b9a in Fedora 8.0. I have already installed gcc-3.3 and made new link to the newly installed gcc. I used patch made for NS-2.1b9a (found in [URL]...-8-ubuntu.html) to install in Fedora 8.0. Now, when I run ./install I get follwoing error.
Can I change the Caps Lock key to Control and still keep the on/off nature of Caps Lock? I've checked into using xmodmap and seem to have hit a dead end. Many people want to swap them, but they also want to swap the way they work. I'd rather keep my new Control key as an on/off switch for Control.
Recently I was trying out a boot disk I had made, and basically, I switched it off several times due to it booting the completely wrong kernel. Now, I'm getting to the stage "Checking File systems" and then comes up [Failed]. I then get a message saying Reboot required, and that it will reboot in 15 seconds, just a few seconds before it reboots I get "/dev/shm not mounted, /dev busy" or something similar.
I've booted up my sysresccd, ran "fsck.ext4 -fcv /dev/sda2" to force a check and scan for any bad blocks, it came up clean, then I rebooted and got the same error, so I copied the kernel and system.map over to /boot to make sure there's no corruption and reinstalled initscripts and util-linux-ng, rebooted, same error.Tried different kernels, I've checked fstab and menu.lst, no problems there, so I still don't get why I still get the same problem.
I have a log file which is continously being accessed. Now I want to delete the first line without disturbing the file.Is it possible? The Issue is the log file is being provisioned with ^@^@^@ characters in the first line occupying huge space. So I need to get rid of that. I dont have time to work with root cause but just a script to reduce this space.
I need to tune the mysql and apache server for the comparatively busy webserver. My scenario is like this.
1. The Web request is around 2000 request at a time or more. 2. Each web request will generate one mysql query. 3. The query to database is all read. 4. This server load will be at peak for around 3-4 hours after that the load will subside. As the task will be published, around 300,000 will be viewing the page.
5 quad servers are deployed, load is balanced via DNS but performance is not as expected. Centos 5.5 is used as OS. Top command shows The mysql process is around 185%!
Named has been working fine for months on Fedora core 14 with updates current.a few days ago it stopped working. I tried a service named restart and received the error message: stopping named: umount:/var/named/ chroot/var/named: device is busy.I tried using kill process, which did not work. However if I use kill 9 <named process>, followed by service named stop, I can then restart the service and it works for a number of hours (less than a day), then stops again and produces the error message above when I try to restart it.I can get it working again using the procedure above, but only temporarily.
I just downloaded OpenOffice 3.2.1 from the openoffice.org weebsite. I followed the instructions precisely and everytime ended up in the same error message - 'error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (Permission denied)'. I am using Fedora 13.
When i connect windows server 2003 from ubuntu these error displayed .When i installing the tsclient, by executing these following command from a Terminal window:
sudo apt-get install tsclient
When i run these command the following error displayed.
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
I have a HP Pavilion dv4 that is 4 months old. Yesterday it suddenly seemed to restart then once I logged in it turned off. When I tried to turn it on some of the lights came on and the caps lock and num lock started flashing. Since then I have not been able to get it to work correctly. It once seemed to turn on but died again after the login window.I tried to use my live cd but the same thing happened. It started loading once, but then shut down again. Every other time it stayed dead minus the lights
I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an old Sony Vaio laptop. I was following some of the steps here..[url]
The step "Enable Full DVD Playback(Dual Layer DVD Support)" did not finish correctly doh and now I can't use 'sudo apt-get' for anything or the software center or using the 'Update Manager' does not work.
The update manger says it may be caused by an update not finishing correctly which sounds correct as explained above. The apt-get command gives me back the following....'Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock resource temporarily unavailable' 'unable to lock administration directory /var/lib/dpkg is another process using it?'
I tried the obvious restart but that hasn't worked.
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/) , are you root?
I have pidgin2.5.2. I want to install pidgin2.6.6.How can I do that?E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
There is a very strange problem I've been having. When I enable either Caps Lock or Num Lock the media controls on my keyboard cease to work. I have Googled this one to death but found nothing. This problem existed in Xubuntu 9.10 and now still exists in Xubuntu 10.04. The keyboard I use is a Logitech Elite Keyboard. I would love to be able to use the Caps Lock and Num Lock without the worry that I am disabling the media controls
I have just burned the latest CD using infraRecorder, as per the instructions on this site, however when I boot from this CD, it spends about 5 minutes moving the red balls across my screen, then all of the sudden it just freezes, and my caps and scroll lock lights start to blink. I've had a look in the forums already but there's nothing about this happening on Boot of the live CD.
I'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.
I am having a very annoying problem with my laptop.I am experiencing many freezes. When my laptop freezes, it shows the caps lock and scroll lock lights blinking. At first I thought it was a problem with flash (here is original thread: URL... )In the original thread, I thought the freeze's were being caused by the flashplayer, but it apparently isn't the case. The last time I experienced the freeze, I was playing around with the compiz desktop effects.
