General :: Add Repositories To Yum?
May 25, 2011
I've googled, search Fedora yum and every where in between and I can't get a clear understanding on how to add repositories. I need a step by step instruction on how to do.....
I want to add rpmfusion.org, rpmrepo.org, dag.wieers.com/packages and atrpms.net.
I'm following the Bible step by step but it doesn't work.

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

What is the correct method of moving to the 11.4 repositories?

Red Hat Desktop 5.5 I think I was successful in screwing up my yum configuration, I might have removed a few repo files too many. I wanted to add rpmforge to my repositories and wanted to install yum-priorities and it is telling me "No package yum-priorities available".
As I am sure it exists and my machine is not finding it it only leaves operator error/screw-up. What are the default repo files for Red Hat desktop and where can I get them?

When trying to update, there comes a problem with a missing key. I'm figuring you need to update that key to download from the repositories. I'm a little stumped on how to get the key or renew it.

Inspired by Knoppix Adriene, I am trying to install it on my netbook. However, I don't want the knoppix repositories since most of them are outdated.
How do I add ubuntu or linux mint's repositories to Knoppix? I guess I need to install the gpg-key also for each repository, correct?

1. I'm trying out ratpoison (a windows manager). It's cool, but a few commands weren't working - I now think that it's because Debian delivered ratpoison 1.4.3 (Feb 2008), while development has issued two more releases (the latest being 1.4.5). Should I (or should I not) install the later release?
2. IF I do, I need to figure out how to convert the tar.gz to a debian package

I am using Fedora 14 right now and i can't figure out how to put in adobe flash player into the plugin repositories of the browser.
Does anyone know how to get it working so I can view ..... videos and or any other media file? Maybe step by step from the start? I downloaded adobe flash player version 10.2.159.1 all ready. I don't know if I should uninstall it then reinstall... Well enough of my rambling I'll let the veteran users have the final say.

I have a trusty old opensuse10.2 and an opensuse11.0 humming around. They have old commercial software on them we still use and will not pay for upgrade. But Now I need to install some additional packages on them, and it is a real pain to find rpms. I was wondering if there are some of the old repositories around. We still have centos3 and centos4 running which are much older, and those repositories are around.

I normally add RPMFORGE / DAG to my RHEL 5 machines however I have a server and I can't remember if I added the repository to the machine so I was wondering how someone can check on the server if I have added this in the past. I know that in Debian / Ubuntu, I am able to cat /etc/apt/source.list and see the repository listed.

I decided to try Debian 5.0.4. I download from debian site CD1 iso image wich is enough to install Debian. After installing Debian my /etc/apt/source.list looks: # deb cdrom: Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main
deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main
deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main deb-src http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny/volatile main deb-src http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny/volatile main
Then I try to install Synaptic. I enter apt-get install synaptic and get error because this package is in some other debian cd. There are 30 CDs with packages. I can not download all 30 CDs. Is there a way to change /etc/apt/source.list file so it can be posible to download some package cointed in some of 30CDs from some offical debian web repository and not from cd-rom media.

Repository configuration for Fedora 13, and a few earlier releases. I don't see these repositories mentioned together on one page or web site, so I thought I'd throw this together.
[URL]
You'll need the RPMFusion repos, so hit the link and follow the instructions there.
[URL]
If you want to be able to play DVD video you'll need a file called libdvdcss so you'll need the Livna repository. To set up the Livna repository, open a terminal and type
Code:
su -c 'rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release.rpm'
su -c 'rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna'
Then install libdvdcss with the command
Code:
su -c 'yum install libdvdcss'
Adobe
The Adobe repositories provide the Adobe Reader and the flash plugin. To install this repository issue the following commands:
Code:
su -c 'rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm'
su -c 'rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux'
To install Adobe Reader issue the following command:
Code:
su -c 'yum install AdobeReader_enu'
This reader is available in several languages. The one above is the English version. To list all available issue the following command:
Code:
yum list AdobeReader*
You'll see several listed. To get more information on a particular package use something like:
Code:
yum info AdobeReader.chs
Available Packages
Name : AdobeReader_chs
Arch : i486
[code]....
I prefer to leave these additional repositories disabled (with the exception of RPMFusion of course) after I've gotten what I need from them. At that point they don't need to be enabled, but there's no harm done if they are. To disable any of the repositories you've installed open the corresponding file with a text editor. Using Livna as an example:
Code:
su -c 'nano /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo'
Find the first instance of the line that reads enabled=1 and change it to read enabled=0. Save and exit the editor. The Livna repository is now disabled.

I am curious as to why Firefox 3.6 isn't in the Fedora 12 repositories. I've read the existing threads on this issue, but these threads were started in January/February of this year. It's been what, 8 or 9 months since those threads were created? I installed Fedora 13 at home over the weekend and realized that it uses Firefox 3.6.
I'm not trying beat a dead horse. I understand that people have priorities.

Essentially, I have an openSUSE system which is isolated from the internet (for business security reasons) and I wish to provided it with the latest update repository. Since the system is not permitted to access the net, my proposed plan is to download the updates repository using my Windows XP system, burn it to DVD and then transfer the repository to the openSUSE system this way.Scanning the internet, I can find plenty of guides which describe how to download repositories using YaST and zypper, but nothing that describes how to resolve my (admittedly unusual) problem
