is there some wiki page on GNOME or Fedora that list which graphics cards work without problems on Fedora 15 with GNOME Shell? I have tried 3 older cards and they all failed, so I would like to share this info with others so people know which cards to avoid if they want to use full features of GNOME 3 via GNOME Shell.

Giving Gnome DO a try but haven't been able to get any of the plugin's I selected to work. Also, any opinions on Cairo Dock vs DO in Docky mode? Which is more MAC like? Cairo has lots of settings and options seem like too many?

I recently switched my desktop environment from KDE-4.3.4 to GNOME-2.28-2 and I did that by installing most of the gnome-packages and uninstalling pretty much all of the kde-ones. After reboot everything worked fine except the file browser that doesn't seem to care about my feelings. It launches and when I try to kill the process the status changes from sleeping to uninterruptible and then back to sleeping. The only way is to reboot but that isn't a solution.Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I basically can't get my mic to work in F12. After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

I cannot right click with my mouse on the gnome applications menu to get the properties/edit menu option. This is on F12 on 64bit.
Instead I get: "help, remove from panel, lock panel". I dont have this problem with anything else on the top bar.

Turns out I have to install package alacarte and then go to System > Preferences > Main Menu

I just installed Fedora 13 on a new computer and the timed login for gnome does not work unless you manually select it. This surprised me as I upgraded a separate computer to Fedora 13 and the timed login feature still correctly functions and does not require user interaction.
Code:
[daemon]
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=<username>
TimedLoginDelay=3
Adding the above to /etc/gdm/custom.conf only adds an Automatic Login option that you have to manually select and then the computer will login. I would deem this less than useful.
Code:
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=<username>
I know you can substitute the timed login with the automatic login and it will instantly login, but this provides no option to select another user. I have been unable to find any information why this feature no longer works and wanted to know if there is a new way or if anyone knows why the timed login feature was crippled.

Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?

I wanted to get a screensaver as my background so I installed xscreensaver didn't work out to the way I wanted to so I removed it apt-get remove xscreensaver then it asked for some other packages to be removed so I did apt-get autoremove xscreensaver was still there working instead of gnome-screensaver so I did a command search to find folders of xscreensaver and remove them whereis xscreensaver and it did remove them, but gnome-screensaver still doesn't start up.
I've tried this command gnome-Message: screensaver-command --activate but I get this error: Message: Screensaver is not running!
I've tried googling for a way to start gnome-screensaver in terminal but no joy, anyone know how to get this to start.

I downloaded and installed hundreds of KDE and GNOME programs yesterday evening. A password was called for and rejected because it was too short. A new password was provided but it was not written down or saved on anything. I am now locked out of linux for want of a working passwd.There is a way to recover a lost password. Would someone please tell me what it is? I do not want to have to re-install everything again.

i just got the new pardus 2011 i love it.i was testing the live dvd of it of a usb drive and i tried to get my wireless to work, but i couldn't. i mean,it detected the network, i actully put my password in, and it seemed that it was going to connect , but it stopped while acquiring ip address. the router is fine,also the wireless card,i'm writing this from windows 7,which works wireless, i can also use wireless from ubuntu, GNOME version, and from linuxmint (GNOME)
i saw on the release notes that they changed to the Gnome's NetowrkManager and i thought it was going to work.i kinda like KDE and am going to give you any infos you consider useful. i'll be booting and rebooting through pardus to give you logs.

After going Debian 8 (with Kali 2) I can no longer use my pre-defined tabs because apparently some genius decided that gnome-terminal no longer needs that kind of functionality (ie. tabs.)I really need my tabs back so I installed a pre 3.11 version that worked with tabs and profiles like this (see below) but that caused other problems.
Code: Select allgnome-terminal --tab-with-profile=Titleable -t "sami" -e "byobu" --tab-with-profile=Titleable -t "root" -e "sudo -i screen -dRRS sami" --tab-with-profile=Titleable -t "samimox1" -e "ssh root@samimox1 -t screen -dRRS main"
Can I install older gnome-terminal side-by-side the "new and improved" version? Or is there a way to get tab profiles to work with the new one?

I'm wondering where the Gnome Weather Applet gets its weather data from.In particular I would like to add my location to the weather applet. I found a technical solution in this thread [URL], but I don't understand where the weather data comes from. In the file Locations.xml coordinates (e.g. 34.739188 -112.009879), codes (e.g. KSEZ) and zones (e.g. AZZ03 are specified. What do the codes and zones mean? How can I locate a weather station near me and find out it's codes? Where does the applet get its data from?For the weather report in the Clock Applet I just entered the coordinates of my location and now I'm getting some weather data. Does that mean that the program automatically takes data from the nearest location in its database?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop with a fresh install of Lenny and KDE 3.5.10.On the computer there are these 7 Keys. I only care about the 3 related to sound. Now everything works perfect in Gnome, but when I switch to KDE, the 3 audio buttons don't work. I can't seem to figure out why and get them working. Does anyone have a solution for this? Again, they work in GNOME but not KDE.
