Fedora :: /var/cache/yum/x86_64/15/updates/metalink.xml Is Not XML?
Jun 1, 2011
i've installed Fedora 15, 64 bit system and I tried to install libXtst.i686 in order to get SQLDeveloper working, but I get every time the message "File /var/cache/yum/x86_64/15/updates/metalink.xml is not XML" and nothing happens:
Code:
[emrah@emrah-rechner ~]$ uname -a
Linux emrah-rechner 2.6.38.6-27.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun May 15 17:23:28 UTC 2011 x86_64
I don't understand this error nor do I know how to solve the issue that is causing the error. Anyone care to comment?

I know JohnVV. "Install a supported version of Fedora, like Fedora 11". This is on a box that has all 11 releases of Fedora installed. It's a toy and I like to play around with it.
I installed Fedora 10 x86_64 from DVD this weekend. Once the install was completed and I booted into the new install, I ran the Software Update expecting to find and download security updates. However, to my surprise no updates were found! The install DVD was downloaded and burnt to DVD about two weeks ago. Did the installer fetch and install the F10 updates? Or did I mess up my install and/or configuration of F10? I remember when I installed F9 there were a lot of updates found right after the install.
Yum cannot seem to reach any repository. Firefox was fixed by going to about:config and changing network. dns. disableIPv6 = TRUE .Can anyone who has this same problem with a FRESH install of Fedora 11 please confirm that static assignments in the hosts file fixes the issue.
I upgraded an Intel Core 2 Duo system to the 64-bit version of Fedora 15, and now yum will not work properly. What can be done to resolve these issues so that yum can update the system?
I was laughing about klackenfus's post with the ancient RH install, and then work has me dig up an old server that has been out of use for some time. It has some proprietary binaries installed that intentionally tries to hide files to prevent copying (and we are no longer paying for support or have install binaries), so a clean install is not preferable.
Basically it has been out of commission for so long, that the apt-get upgrade DL is larger than the /var partition (apt caches to /var/cache/apt/archives).
I can upgrade the bigger packages manually until I get under the threshold, but then I learn nothing new. So I'm curious if I can redirect the cache of apt to a specified folder either on the command line or via a config setting?
I installed squid cache on my ubuntu server 10.10 and it is work fine but i want to know how to make it cache all files like .exe .mp3 .avi ....etc. and the other thing i want to know is how to make my client take the files from the cache in the full speed. since am using mikrotik system to use pppoe for clients and i match it with my ubuntu squid
Attempting to compile an application that is not located in any of the repos yet for 11.3 64 bit. I have downloaded the appropriate src and untarred it. However, when I attempt to run the ./configure command here is the error I receive. checking build system type... Invalid configuration `x86_64-unknown-linux-': machine `x86_64-unknown-linux' not recognized configure: error: /bin/sh ./config.sub x86_64-unknown-linux- failed
I have made sure that I have all kernel-headers packages installed and am unsure as how to proceed. I tried using the command "./configure --build=x86_64" and then receive an error stating that the "SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED" and continued errors stating that gcc is not installed, eve though it is.
i was looking for a way to stop my menus taking a few seconds to load my icons when i first open them and found a few guides suggesting using the gtk-upate-icon-cache command, but with the any colour you like icon theme i'm using (stored in my home folder .icons directory) i kept getting a "gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid." fault i used the inbuilt facility in the acyl script to copy the icons to the usr/share/icons directory and tried the command again, this time using sudo gtk-update-icon-cache --force --ignore-theme-index /usr/share/icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.1/ but i still get the same error. i tried with several of the custom icon themes i've installed and only 1 of the first 7 or 8 i tried successfully created the cache.
i recently dual booted my laptop with linux mint, i used the mint4win installer and works great, but when i did it on a friends computer it gets almost all the way through the installation then a message comes up can not download the metalink and therefore the iso.
WUBI says that when i try to install ubuntu and kubuntu netbook remixs with windows 7.I have an ubuntu netbook .iso but i dont know where the directory is.
I am using Fedora 11 64-bit. The problem is, when I start to install any updates or new packages, the system return the following error:No package cache is available. The package list needs to be rebuilt. This should have been done by the backend automatically.
Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again.I am completely new to linux, meaning I have never, ever, used a linux based system. I have recently accustomed to myself with only the basic commands (ls, yum, help, g++ etc.)
Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:
Code:
Entering non-interactive startup Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored
[code]....
I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?
When the install button is pressed an error sign says "metalink is missing".Is there a way around this or better still a way of removing windows altogether and start from scratch?
I have enabled the option to keep the yum cache when updating Fedora 12 and I was wondering if there was a way in which I could remove old versions of the same package from the cache?
I have Fedora installed on more than one machine and I make them share a common update location for their updates to avoid downloading the same packages twice (bandwidth quota expensive in Australia).
how I could accomplish that? yum clean doesn't seem to have any options to only remove old packages!!!
I can't find how to clear ABRT cache (other than to forcibly 'rm -rf /var/cache/abrt/'). How does one clear out the pile (which has grown to 1.2 GB here)?
Is there a way to get Smart pkg Manager to keep pkgs in cache ,as I like to keep the pkgs I download for later use if I need them etc.Something I could add to file somewhere maybe like "urpmi --noclean"
Keep trying update the packages (36 in total) and every time I keep getting this error ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel-x86_64 is needed by kmod-nvidia-2.6.26.6-49.fc8-173.14.12-5.fc8.2.x86_64 kernel-x86_64 is needed by kmod-nvidia-2.6.26.8-57.fc8-173.14.12-5.fc8.3.x86_64 Please report this error at [URL]
why my fedora 11 computer shows an application that launches every couple of minutes called launching HTTPcache cleaner? i searched installed programs and i cant find that in annything ive installed
i has setup a persistent DNS cache to improve my web-browsing. it works wonders and with my ICC built firefox my web-browsing is laser-fast, pretty much like using internet explorer in windows! however, everytime i reboot, my modifications to /etc/resolv.conf have been replaced... 1st. the file must contain:
# Generated by NetworkManager (obviously modified by this) nameserver 127.0.0.1 <----this is lost on reboot, and is needed to make it all work nameserver 209.226.175.223 nameserver 198.235.216.134
i have tried to add this to - System/administration/network, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. 2nd. my next problem is that when fedora 12 starts up,i need it to start "dnsmasq".i have tried to add it as a startup application, but it doesn't start automatically.so i end up having to start it manually everytime:
sudo /etc/init.d/dnsmasq start
it is annoying, but so far i just deal with it, because my browsing is that much faster! i am planning to post a tutorial for those interested in faster web-browsing in linux, but until i can make the changes perminent there isn't much point.
PS: i have tried to write a shell script to do this and every which way i try it fails
i want to know the location of firefox cache folder..when we watch any video on ..... or any sites firefox buffers the whole video in its cache memory..so i want to copy that whole video from that cache folder directly so that we dont need any third party add-ons to download videos..for that i want to know the exact location of that cache memory folder of firefox browser in linux
Thereś trouble with my keyboard and since no body is able to help iḿ thinking of reinstalling.I like to know if fedora keeps a cache of downloaded packages so that it can save me the bandwidth after i reinstall??
