Fedora :: Update Or Upgrade - Yum Failure F12 - Warning: RPMDB Has Been Altered Since The Last Yum Transaction
Jan 19, 2010
When trying to do an update or upgrade, I get the following:
Running Transaction Warning: RPMDB has been altered since the last yum transaction. Traceback (most recent call last):
[Code]....
I have tried yum clean all, yum clean metadata, rpm --rebuilddb, and even removing /var/cache/yum. yum info and yum list both work fine. Naturally, this yum problem is preventing me from updating my system.

For the last week or so, I've been getting the following warning whenever I do an update. Is it expected, or should it be bugged?
Code:
Finished Transaction Test
Transaction Test Succeeded
Running Transaction
Warning: RPMDB has been altered since the last yum transaction.
Updating : pulseaudio-libs-0.9.21-1.fc12.x86_64 1/53

Every time I use YUM from the CLI the following message shows up: Code: Warning: RPMDB altered outside of yum. ** Found 1 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows: wine-common-1.2.0-1.fc13.noarch has missing requires of wine-core = ('0', '1.2.0', '1.fc13') What is this? How to deal with it?

For the past few days, the automatic GUI update has been crashing, complaining of a "Transaction error."
Here is the output that pops up in a separate window:
Code:
I tried the following:
Code:
And got the following (similar) output:
Code:
I very rarely use xfce and I don't quite know what exo is, but I'd like to fix this problem if it's not too involved.

Every time I go to install software via yum (on a new F15 install), I get a warning that there are unfinished transactions and that I should run yum-complete-transaction to finish them. Well, I don't want to do that. I had to install F15 a second time today for just this reason...Today I went to install gnome-tweak-tool via yum and itn't work because packagekit was holding the yum lock. Apparently packagekit runs as a daemon in the background? Is that correct? If so, how do I disable it? It's really quite obnoxious that an application that I didn't even start manually would sit around holding the yum lock, preventing me from doing what I want.
Either way, packagekit wasn't giving up the yum lock any time soon, apparently, so I just killed the process. Now every time I try to install something with yum, I get a warning about unfinished transactions, and a recommendation that I should complete them. I tried to do this earlier today, but after doing so and rebooting, I was greeted with a kernel panic error. Not knowledgeable enough to fix such a thing, I re-installed, and here I am.So, other than running yum-complete-transaction, how can I get rid of this error message? I really don't want to have to run it and then get another kernel panic and start from scratch again.

I had occasion to add a few lines to rc.sysinit. Turns out the lines syntax was wrong. Instead of the booting ignoring those lines and proceeding on, then giving me an error warning or perhaps dumping into the interactive mode it just hung up! After several tries at moving on I discovered ESC dropped me into some sort of unannounced shell I got the installation disk out and with the repair system option using VI I got the lines deleted and all went back to normal. Now my suggestion is that if something does not make sense in terms of syntax while booting then cover it by doing the above and ignoring it with a warning later.

The error message is: "est Transaction Errors:
installing package kernel-debug-2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystem
installing package kernel-doc-2.6.31.6-166.fc12.noarch needs 27MB on the /boot filesystem
installing package setroubleshoot-2.2.50-1.fc12.i686 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystem

installing package gettext-0.17-16.fc12.i686 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystem"
I have boot as a separate partition, this time around I have set it to ext4 for the first time. That partition is only 250 Mb, but that has always been sufficient in the past, perhaps I am holding too many kernels or kernel versions?

Ok. Using Release 12 Constantine Gnome 2.28. Whenever I try to update my computer via de Software Update Manager that pops up every now and then I get an error and the Software Update fails.
The error says its a repository not found, but I am very new at this and have no clue as to where to fix this. Alongside of this, is the fact that since one of the updates is failing, the rest don't install either. So the updates keep on piling.
This is the error shown in the More Details window:

I've been trying to update Fedora 15 for weeks. I always end up with a transaction error and the update stalls. The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository.
This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.

I installed fedora 12 today...installation went fine. Tried to run the software update ( which includes 415 fixes) and got the following
Transaction error:- an unspecified transaction error has occurred. More information is available in the following report.
More details show:- could not add package update for abrt-plugin-runpp-1.0.4-1fc12(i686)updates:abrt-plugin-runapp-1.0.4-1.fc12.i686
I have unchecked the box in the update list to be installed, but the software update insists that this update is needed. I cannot progress any further than this error message..

In my yum history listing, I've noticed the "EE" in the Altered column next to some of the entries. It looks like this (example from Section 5.16.1 History [URL]):
Code:
617 | System <unset> | 2010-12-23 13:16 | E, I, U | 30 EE
Does anyone know what the "EE" means?

I just completed the latest updates to Fedora 14 - I have mono and wine on the system as well - so they were also updated. Now the only screen I can get is the failsafe (bash).
How do I recover my KDE desktop? (I noticed there were some updates for the KDE as well). I suspect something has failed during the update (selinux was also updated).

I was testing out Ubuntu 10.04 on both the a desktop and a laptop (both HP...I don't remember the particular models but if asked I will find out). It worked fine on the desktop. When I booted the laptop with Ubuntu it worked fine. When I tried to connect it to the internet it seemed to go okay. I mean it asked for the network password and everything. But as soon as the signal was recognized I got a warning that said "Hard drive failure is imminent."
Now this laptop has gone through problems before. I don't know the extents because it's a family laptop and I rarely use it (it's super slow. It used to run Vista but now it runs XP and it's slow regardless). I think the hard drive may have been replaced at one point of another and it has had to be re installed numerous times before. And the way it is used leads me to believe that there is not a lot of space left in that hard drive. So that may have been the issue.
But I want to make sure it is a hardware problem and not something that will happen on the device I eventually decide to install Ubuntu on. How to understand why the hard drive would fail when the live CD doesn't actively use the hard drive, at least not the way it would if it had been installed in the hard drive.
