Fedora :: "no" Superuser Access In Nomachine
Nov 9, 2009
Fedora 11, new install from live cd newest nomachine free server and client for linux fedora server to fedora/windows clients connection. I cant use most superuser programs in gnome, when logging in with nomachine. I can start a program like "add/remove software" and search for the software and get results. It can search for dependencies, but when i push "install", the "files that will be installed" window just closes, and I get back to the main window. Nothing gets installed.
This is the behavior in most such programs. I kind of get the feeling that these programs are either ignoring su actions, or trying to display the "autorization request" or password window locally. Also, when selinux stops something, and i get a star up in the right corner, I can't "show" the message. It just closes the bubble and goes on with its business. I just installed fedora over ubuntu. Ubuntu behaved like i wanted it to in this regard, giving me the power to install and change stuff, and displaying the password request every time it felt the need to. I don't want to go back to ubuntu.
I can ofc ssh into the server, and use yum and such. But i don't want to if i can get away with it. I don't care about the security issue. I have a fairly good fw/router and only one idiot user (me), and he can blame himself when his surfing lets the bad guys inside. So, what i want is to do administrative tasks via nomachine.

I have never set up any other password, yet I'm asked for Root password and therefore locked out from superuser. This is my own personal computer at home and there is no other O/S installed. My password works for almost anything else I've needed it for so far but I can't install my printer driver, or access su, or any of its other related privileges

wrote a network emulator program in c programming. It can run for ubuntu terminal with good performance. But i have to make it for web-based user configuration. So i had setup apache web server and write this program in cgi script and try to execute this program from web page. This program must be run in root privilege($sudo -s) and add the iptables rules such as (#iptables -A OUTPUT -j QUEUE). So my question is how to add iptables rules in my cgi scripts? How to set the superuser(root privilege) permission to access my program through web server?

I use Fedora 12 and newest free NoMachine NXServer. I have installed all three packages (nxclient, nxnode and nxserver). I'm running sshd on port 22. When I try to connect to my machine, everything works fine, then
I see big red M and then is all black.

NX works great when only one connection is attempted at a time. Each server responds appropriately. However when attempting to use NoMachine from an XP client for multiple nx remote connections all subsequent connections receive the following error:Session failed - NX Server Error is 112 'Address already in use'.Research indicates numerous discussions (see below) with no solution for the current freenx versionEnvironment:VM Platform default Fedora 13 with KVMVM machines all default Fedora 14 with "yum install freenx"Full Text of Error Message:

It's been a while, I haven't used Linux since version 6 or 7, and at that time, Anaconda gave you a choice of which level of SELinux to install - as I remember, I chose the "relaxed" version... but this time, with Version 11, I was not given any choice of which level of SELinux to use. I was automatically forced into a USER (drone) account with no administrative or limited administrative capabilities. I have my administrative name and password I assigned during the Anaconda install...but I don't know how to get into the superuser or root account and execute it so that I have full, unvarnished permission to do as I please on MY machine.
First of all, let me explain - This is MY computer and I can do with it exactly as I want. I am the Aministrator and I am the one and only OWNER of this machine. Therefore, I should have automatic access to SuperUser, and if I corrupt something, that is my fault...and its my machine. Cutting through the bull, I would like someone on here to just plain tell me, without cryptic remarks, to give me a step-by-step - The is a HOW TO to access the superuser account, name and password. And - this is HOW TO create a ROOT account with superuser permissions. What I need is a one-two-three this-is-how-to-do-it.
If I mess things up, I merely reinstall Fedora again and start from scratch. I don't care if I screw things up accidentally. What does irritate me is being forced to have a "drone" account on my machine that I own, without even asking me, what I wanted..

I have nx nomachine installed on 64bit opensuse 11.2. All was fine until I ran updates this week and now it seems that it has a mind of its own. (dont remember which packages were updates)Every time I open the cli it just starts typing the equal symbol on its own. In fact every time I open anything that can accept text input it just starts adding equal symbols. It enters them about 2 every second.Code:jason@FileServer:~> =========================I uninstalled all the NX packages, killed the .nx folder in my user folder and then reinstalled the packages and still the same thing.

I'm logging into a remote Ubuntu box from my Mac via NX, and almost everything works great. However, I can't find any way to capture the alt-tab keyboard combination (or, command-tab) for app switching. All the individual keys register with ubuntu, but when pressed together, Mac OS captures it first. Is there any way to fix this?

Over the past few months Nomachine's NX Server has deteriorated to the point where it's unusable, as detailed in this thread for one machine. On my other machine it works, but I cannot do apt-get dist-upgrades as it spews forth messages like, "insserv: Starting nxsensor depends on stop-bootlogd and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!". So I give up on them.

So I'm trying to install the icon package called Token-Dark. I figured out that I have to move the icons to usr/share/icons. When I try to copy the file I get the error "permission denied". I tried to change the permissions on the folder, but it says that I'm not the root, or the owner of the files, so I can't change anything.

I have a regular password and a masterpassword, but sometimes I am being asked for a superuserpassword? I have no scripting experience and a very basic idea of how linux works. I am trying to get enough of a handle on this OS, so I can use it comfortably.

So I don't know exactly if this is where to put this. Because I think this might be NoMachine's problem, but I'm not sure. I am trying to set up FreeNX, and I got it working to connect from my work laptop (windows 7) to my home computer (ubuntu 10.04).
I have it going on a different SSH port, and it claims I'm using custom Keys. But, NoMachine still requires me to put in a password to connect. But I can't do that because I have my ssh setup to key-authentication ONLY.So I can't connect to my home machine UNLESS I turn on password-authentication also. But I don't want password authentication on. So, how can I connect without using passwords? Do I need to use a different client other than NoMachine NX-client? Or is this a setup I have wrong in my ubuntu stuff.
I figure it must be NoMachine, because I can't even attempt to login if I don't first put in a password.

Im comming from ubuntu/mint and one of the things I got used too was doing something like "sudo nautilus" or "sudo gedit" and similar things. In Suse 11.3 I always get errors like the following
(gedit:6115): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
kate: cannot connect to X server
Could not parse arguments: Cannot open display:
or similar variations of these. What can I so to prevent this from happening? even if I do "su" and try from there it doesnt always work.I like Suse as it feels more professional then ubuntu, but I am trying to make it as user friendly.

I have an Ubuntu jaunty fileserver. I connect to the machine from time to time using the Nomachine client on windows.Everything is setup and working perfectly, except for one thing. When I acces the server remotely, I cannot access any external USB drives connected to it. The drive mounts fine, and is available when logged on locally to the machine, just not when logged in via Nomachine.

I have a remote Lucid machine running Neatx to which I can successfully connect using the NoMachine nxclient under Windows. Using the same connection credentials under Karmic and nxclient doesn't work.
I attach screen shots of the session logs under both Windows and Karmic. They appear identical except for the 'Using shared memory parameters' field. Is this important? No authentication errors appear, so I don't think that's the problem. The Karmic session displays 'Established the display connection' and then fails after exactly one minute.

On restarting the ssh daemon other users can't login by the terminal, but I can. However, NoMachine won't log me in. I get: NX> 502 ERROR: Public key authentication failed. As a server side check:

I have installed NoMachine NxClient deb, on Ubuntu 11.04, Nx installed and I connected to my uni server fine. The Nx program was originally in the applications drop down menu in "others". After a restart Nx was no longer in the menu, I dl'd again and found in Ubuntu software center that there was an option to reinstall NXClient, so I reinstalled and the icons appeared in applications/internet. After a restart they(the NX icons) disappeared again. No other programs have disappeared from the app menu like that.edit: after finding edit menu, I noticed nx client (show) was not "ticked" in internet selection. after a reboot the icon is now available in the app/internet menu.Previous to this I found what I thought was the application in shell $/usr/NX/bin/nxclientbut it would not run from shell command.I added to the panel, created an application launcher for /usr/NX/bin/nxclient and it works there, too.

I have installed nomachine on my windows 7 laptop and when I connect to the server I receive the error message:
"Authentication failed for user [username]"
Which user am I supposed to log in with? Is it the same user as I use on the server or is this a separate nx user? When I receive this message is it because of the user or the ssh key I use?

I want to use nomachine, instead of freenx, and well it isn't working. SSH server works and all, because freenx works., same for neatx. But I hear with nomachine you can see the main display of the computer? Is this true? Well one way to find out, but whenever I try to login I get: Authentication failed for user x. I don't know why, neatx and freenx worked, even x2go, but not this.

I've installed the latest no machine rpms from nomachine. Status shows that nx server is running:
Code:
However, connecting from a windows client, I get the following:
Code:
So I get past authentication, but it then times out during session download. And here's the output from /var/log/messages on the server:
Code:
The only strange thing I've noticed (other than the error messages) is that the log messages for NXServer/NXnode have a date of Jan 5, yet the correct system time should be Jan 4 as seen in the first message.
Note this is happening on both my RHEL 4 and RHEL 5 machines.

When I connect to my Ubuntu box from any Mac OSX 10.6 client (Snow Leopard) using Nomachine, the 'd' key minimizes all windows on my Ubuntu box. I found another post here that says the issue can be fixed by changing some settings on the Ubuntu box when connected. However, I cannot find the location of the settings indicated in that post [URL].
Does anyone know how to resolve this 'd' key problem?
