blank cds are not mounted
tried a fedora live cd, its mounted
because of this i am unable to burn cds.
My fedora system crashed but i can log into rescue mode
I'm trying to mount a usb drive but can't
i can see my usb by running fdisk -l
but when i run 'mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1'
it never mounts the usb drive
I just bought an WD external hard drive to back up all the data I have on my computer. After about 30 GB of the data was copied, it suddenly stopped and the following error message popped up code...

I recently got a new external hdd and formatted it to clear off the preloaded software seagate loaded on it for windows users. Anyway it worked fine but I realized I didn't name the drive what I wanted and since the format didn't take long at all I figured I'd do it again and name it what i meant to.
This time a message popped up and said error formatting drive
I removed it and now when I connect it, it doesn't appear to mount at all.
I Am Having Problem With My JFS Partition On Which Ubuntu Is Installed. It Is Not Mounting. The Bootscreen Says There Is Serious Problem With Mounting The Partition And It Does Not Load Linux. I Tried jfs_fsck -p and -a But With No Success. I Also Tried Checking For Errors Using GParted.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe switched from unix to linux and we have an old report that extracted data from a database, output to an ascii file and then sorted the results in the file based on different arguments. The report now blows up when it runs,and I can only guess it is because the options for sort on linux differ slightly from unix.For example, here is one of the commands issued from within the report app that ran on the old unix box:
if sort-sequence = "descending" then
'sort -t~" -f +3.0f -4.0 +5.0r -6.0 -f '
else
'sort -t~" +3.0f -4.0 +1.0f -2.0 -f'
I will eventually rewrite the report to store the data in a local table, but I can simply adjust the options to suit the requirments of linux. Basically, I need to know if this can be a quick fix for the short term.
Its annoying to unmount my flash drive twice.. its not a major problem actually but its kinda annoying , its whenever i plug-in my flash drive.. everything works well except when i need to un-mount it.. I usually unmount it twice using right-click of the mouse, then it mounts itself back, so i have to unmount it again.. Is there any way to control this? How do i setup the auto-mount option for USB flash drives?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried a number of times to install dual boot with Win2k. I keep getting errors at the stage of setting up the partition for the install. When I try to choose ext4 it says Fedora cannot be installed on a bootable drive, fix the problem. I don't see how to fix it...it does not say what to do or change.
I have had other linux installed in the same partition without a problem. What gives?

At first it showed not enough memory space , but on rescanning the partition,it is showing the /boot folder.So how do i delete some data in fedora ?

Do you have any idea what might be wrong with my system?
My fedora 12 laptop will no longer boot properly. i get my bios screen, then the fedora intro screen (with the f / infinity symbol on a blue background) after a brief blank screen, then i get a blank screen with a blinking cursor. i can type things but nothing happens when i do, and the computer never exits out of that screen.
is there anything i can do to correct this problem short of a reinstall? i really hate to lose some of the drivers i went to a lot of trouble to find and install as well as some software and some user files.
p.s.: the last thing i did before the problem was to use yum to install quite a few fonts (xorg-...) but it ran after that and i think even went through one reboot with no problems.
I'm using fedora 13 on my acer 532 when i installed pidgin it installed i saw its icon on the top of the page by the clock, then when i shut down and restart it does not appear in the Internet folder nor is there a icon what should i do to install pidgin to the Internet folder? show it appears and it is installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so i just got fedora 12 all set up in Virtual Box and got the guest additions and stuff so i can have max screen res. I went to set up compiz following this site (google Using Compiz on Fedora 12 as Linux Guest in VirtualBox) installed dkms, rebooted and now after it loads the bar at the bottom that says fedora 12, it gives a blank black screen with a solid white line at the top like a c prompt curser. Whats the deal here? did dkms break my install or something? Its on a vm so no big loss but id still like to know.

I have had about 0% success getting everything to work correctly doing a fresh install of F9. Everything works correctly in F7( sound, firefox/flash, networking, samba, etc ), so I figure that starting with something know to work and upgrading to F9 might be a better approach that starting with F9 and having it guess.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed netatalk for Linux in Fedora 10. I managed to get the service starting correctly at every boot and from Linux side everything looks good. I even manged to tweak avahi-daemon to advertise my server on the network so would show in Finder sidebar (with a snazy tux icon). But when I try to connect to the server it asks me for username and password (as it should), but my password doesn't work. I changed my password, I even gave it a simple one to rule out possibility of "fat-finger"-ing. No success.
I tried many options in my afpd.conf file. Here is the latest code...
I setup my computer to share printers on home network. So I set my F11 PC for manual ip & it works fine for print sharing but now I can't get to the Internet. I noticed under manual settings that every time I set the gateway & try to apply it, it jumps back to all 0's. If I set it to DHCP, I get to the Internet no problem. I just have 2 wireless configs right now 1 for printing & 1 for Internet but it would be a lot easier if I could just use the one manual setting & get it to keep the gateway setting. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. And I do select a manual IP outside the range the router uses for DHCP.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter being puzzled why every guide saying to install the 'libdvdcss' package wasn't working, the package simply not being found; it turns out that in the shift to RPM Fusion, that libdvdcss was the only package that Livna was still going to carry due to RPM Fusion's refusal - in case you didn't know.
I've installed all of the gstreamer plugins, xine-extra-libs and libdvdcss, all of the ones that are suggested. Yet I still cannot play a DVD with VLC. I was wandering if you could help me diagnose why?
