Fedora :: LaTeX - Unable To Load Any Usable Font Set
Nov 29, 2010
I have F14 x86_64 installation on my laptop. I once used latex vary well. After recent update of the system, there seems to be a latex font problem. When I ran xdvi, the dvi window flashed once and disappeared immediately.
The error in the terminal is:
Code:
$ xdvi ms
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
Error: Aborting: no fontset found
I have xorg-x11-font-utils, xorg-x11-fonts-misc, xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi, and xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-100dpi installed. I then ran:
Code:
# yum install xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859*
to install some extra fonts. But the problem remained. What shall I do?
I've installed Fontmatrix. It deactivates fonts correctly, but when I try to reactivate them, it does not do so, and gives this error message: "Fontmatrix has been unable to load the font in file /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-liberation/LiberationMono-Bold.ttf. Please check missing files." It is still possible to reinstall them using Gnome Font Viewer. Does anyone know what to do about this?
I'm on slackware64-current. When I start xfig, it issues a warning "Unable to load any usable fontset". Then, it exits/aborts as soon as I try to browse the library (Shift-l, select a library, bang).Couldn't find much via google about the message. Does it work on your slack current?
$ xfig Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion Warning: Cannot convert string "-URW-Nimbus Roman No9 L-medium-r-normal--34-*-*-*-*-*-*-
I am running the 32 bit version of Fedora 14. I have a provided program (not part of the Linux system) that notes "Cannot open font 9x15" and then crashes when it tries to do graphics. I have checked by using -fn in xterm and there is no 9x15 font. This agrees with xlsfonts. How do I get the 9x15 font installed on this system.
I'm just texing a little report and I get the following error message: LaTeX Warning: Citation 'tzvp' on page 4 undefined on input line 74 I have made a bibliography in the classic way, i.e.
My system is a Lenovo B500 All-In-One, with an Nvidia GTS 250M video card. nv seems to work okay, but I cannot get the desktop to load with the nvidia driver (nvidia-current, from the repository). I've been hacking away at this for a week and a half with no results. Every time I try to boot with the nvidia driver, the splash screen comes up for a second, the screen flashes a couple times between a "static" screen and tty2, then the screen seems to go to a test mode, where it flashes a series of solid colors indefinitely. Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I see the following:
Code:
(II) May 08 19:06:53 NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is (II) May 08 19:06:53 NVIDIA(0): enabled. (WW) May 08 19:06:54 NVIDIA(0): Failed to enable display hotplug notification
I downloaded some application for Linux (program microcontroller LPCXpresso). When I trying to install it some error appears
Code: Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories: /installkitvfs/lib/tcl /installkitvfs/lib/tcl8.6 /home/damon/src/installkit-1.3.0/out/lib/tcl8.6 /media/lib/tcl8.6 /lib/tcl8.6 /media/library /library /tcl8.6b1.2/library /tcl8.6b1.2/library
This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.I think Tcl is installed, maybe I need to reinstall it if so, how? What I need to do?
I am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.
I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

I have been running Gnome 3 for a few days now and really like it, but need to tweak it to my liking, basically to an overall darker theme. Something similar to this is what I am shooting for: I have figured out how to do the shell themes (top bar, dock, etc) but I am having problems with the window manager themes (window title bars, window backgrounds, etc). Using the Gnome-Tweak_Tool, I can apply the pre-installed ones, but I am at a loss as to how I add new ones. I have tried adding themes to ~/.themes, and /usr/share/gnome-shell/themes, but I am unable to get them to show up to be usable in the tweak tool. I am comfortable using the command line and/or editing configuration files if that is the only way.
I recently did a clean install of Fedora 11 (from Fedora 10). In Fedora 9 and 10 I used a remote font server so that I could launch HP OpenView over a VPN tunnel. The procedure would go something like this:
OpenView requires the fonts that are installed on the HP-UX server, hence the need for the xset command. Now since the installation of Fedora 11, I cannot get the xset command to work.
xset fp+ tcp/<hp_ux_server>:7000 xset: bad font path element (#23), possible causes are: Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions Directory missing fonts.dir Incorrect font server address or syntax
I have turned off the firewall to make sure it wasn't blocking the request. But to no avail. I have also had two other people with Fedora 11 machines try this, they get the same error. Were there major changes in the X server from Fedora 10 to 11+?
When I install the texlive packages (LaTeX installation) in Mint 9 (= Ubuntu 10.04), the pdflatex module is not installed. Yet it's required for producing pdf files from LaTeX editors, for example jEdit with the LaTeX Tools plug-in. pdflatex is not in the Mint/Ubuntu repos.
I am running a PHP script using the GD library on a Linux server. When I try to load a font using PHP's imageloadfont(), GD replies with:
Code: gd warning: product of memory allocation multiplication would exceed INT_MAX, failing operation gracefully Linux kernel is 2.6, PHP version is 5.2.9 and GD is 2.0.34.
I have tried several different font but all have the same issue. Does anyone know what the error means?
I've installed in Lenny with the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel, the xorg-xserver-input-evouch package, I've edited the xorg.conf, as described in this howto [URL]. It works to the where I am trying to start the calibrate.sh script. When I start it, the X screen pops up, but in the console I get a message, that failed loading font '*-helvetica-*-12-*'. After that the calibration tool dies.
I've just carried out an update and when I rebooted it won't let me passed the choose screen with Windows 7 or Ubuntu on it, I choose the Ubuntu and Error: unknown command - load font flashes for a second and then the machine reboots!I can't get any further into Ubuntu than that, any one have any ideas of how I can get back in????
I am using fedora 13 .My kernel version is 2.6.33.6-147.fc13.i686.PAE . I installed vlc media player from the rpm fusion repository.I do have the problem with that.I am unable to load the menu bar in it . i find the following error.

I get the following error, after installing and configuring httpd - it will not start any longer:
Code:
Starting httpd (via systemctl): Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details.Where can I find the system log for this so I can post what is actually causing this?

this is my fisrt time in this forum. I got the following message when I an using arm-linux-insight: [root@localhost insight]# arm-linux-insight Tk_Init failed: Can't find a usable tk.tcl in the following directories: /usr/local/share/tk8.4 /usr/local/lib/tk8.4 /usr/lib/tk8.4 /usr/local/library /usr/library /usr/tk8.4.1/library /tk8.4.1/library
I'm in the process of trying to install FC14 64 bit to my Window 7 64 bit system. This new system has a 6.0 Gb/s internal hard drive. When I reboot with the F14 install disk I have made it past the disk verification (is Verified) and then picking a language but then I get the message "No usable disks have been found". In Win 7, the Disk Management window shows that 184 GB of space are free. Is there some disk preparation that I should do to make this space available?
I installed few fonts in fedora. but after rebooting, fedora boots up but returns to run level 3. Showing an error: "Can't load 'fixed' font". error. I checked the /etc/inittab, the runlevel is defined as default 5. I think its the font problem, But i don't know how to reset & get back the 'fixed' font.
Today I had to debug something going on with yum, if you run it normally with rpmfusion using the mirrorlist's, it hangs at "collecting package sack". If you edit the rpmfusions repo files to point at the baseurl for each, it works fine or you can disable the rpmfusion repos entirely. I saw this was a problem a couple of weeks back but thought this was fixed.
UPDATE Nevermind, this is a known problem [URL]
I'm having trouble doing a delete on this message, doesn't the forum have the "delete message" check box in the Edit mode anymore? I don't see it now.
im trying to install the driver for my nvidia GeForce 7300 GS.i have Fedora 12 installed in an Intel duo core 2 processor 64 bits.kernel installed is 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.x86_64...i followed leigh's guide i did the 4 steps but after reboot screen goes blanck and X dont work.the log says:

In all previous versions of KDE I had Console8x16 set as KDE font for all cases (Settings->Appearance->Fonts). After tonight upgrade, this (only!) font is not working. I can see it in font manager, I can set it in ...Appearance->Fonts, but actually remains default font. Two of about 30 attempts somehow (can not reproduce) succeeded to set "console 12" font, but it disappeared after restart.
1. What can be the problem in 4.4? 2. In /usr/share/fonts tere are 3 files named console8x16.pcf, console8x8.pcf and console9x15.pcf, but in the font list in Appearance->Fonts I can see only 2 - one named "Console" (seems to be 8x16 and "console" (8x8). File 9x15 does not appear at all. Why?
Last results of attempts: cannot use console font in part of areas, while part works OK. For example: kdevelop editor, kmail message body text works OK. But kmail other parts - does not. The most interesting is that although setting the kmail body message text to console displays the message body text correctly (with console font), but the example message in "Configure kmail" dialogue "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog" is displayed in the default font, as if there is no console font!
On a number of sites I use PHP's snmpget() function, but now on all these I just get this error: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/etc/php.d/snmp.so' - libnetsnmp.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function snmpget()
fedora 12 with php 5.3.1 + apache is installed on the server
I needed a FFMPEG + MENCODER + FFMPEG-PHP setup , so I have installed all of the necessary libraries/codecs along with ffmpeg , mencoder and ffmpeg-php
I've added ffmpeg-php (ffmpeg.so) module to php.ini and restarted httpd
But ffmpeg was not showing up in phpinfo() so I grepped : php -i | grep ffmpeg for some clues and got this warning PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/ffmpeg.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/ffmpeg.so: undefined symbol: php_gd_gdImageSetPixel in Unknown on line 0
That error explains why ffmpeg is not loading
Obviously something to do with GD library , so I've researched on the net , and found that some users suggest loading the GD module before FFMPEG module.
I gave it a try and added this at the end of php.ini: Code: [gd] ;loading gd extension=gd.so [ffmpeg] ;loading ffmpeg extension=ffmpeg.so ...but still same error when greping phpinfo()
A few days ago there was a huge TexLive update. Since I've installed the updates I get following error, when running pdfLatex: Code: kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt So I guess it can't find pdflatex.fmt, but I don't know what to do against it.
Today I discovered a strange issue regarding LaTeX. I am currently working on my thesis and sometimes edit it on my laptop with F13 x86_64, and others with my office's Mac (Leopard). Fedora has TexLive installed (default Latex distribution) and I believe the Mac has its default distribution as well.
The problem is that the Mac seems to compile the document better (Latex + Bibtex + Latex + dvips + ps2pdf): page distribution looks better for one thing, space is better used. I notice that images (EPS) are rendered with an extra blank space on the bottom when compiling in Linux (which might be responsible for the page's arrangement).
Is there something I can do to fix this? Some option that perhaps the Mac has as a default but must be specified in Linux?
