Fedora Installation :: Fedora 14 Installation Black Screen
Apr 30, 2011
I am new to Fedora . I tried installing Fedora 14 on my Hp Pavilion dm4 Laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon Graphics Card and when I booted from the live CD I had burned a little while earlier. I got the Grub menu of the Live CD . But when I selected the option to boot Fedora from the live CD. all I get is a black screen , I waited for several minutes and got nothing on the screen.I have tried to boot from the live CD several times .. but I am just getting this black screen every time..
I installed F12 with the i686 KDE livecd. A black screen with a blink "-" appeared after the bios information on the first reboot. The computer does not respond to any key input except "ctrl+alt+del", which restarts the computer. The machine is a dell inspiron 6000 with inboard 915gm video card, and the bootloader was written to the harddrive mbr. Any help would be highly appreciated.I need to be more clear. Installation went fine, problem appeared on the first reboot.
When i boot the fedora image from a dvd i'm not being taken to the fedora live system screen, instead i see a bunch a words on a black screen (looks like DOS)...am i having compatibility issues or what? ive tried 32bit, 64bit versions as well as different desktops. does anyone have any ideas? my laptop is brand new: toshiba e205 running windows 7 ultimate..
After I upgraded F11 to F12 on an x86_64, the new system boots and the daemons come up, then the screen goes black and the computer restarts. But then it won't boot at all. It just keeps restarting. It could be a monitor driver problem. The one time I managed to press "I" fast enough to bring GRUB up, I tried adding "nomodeset". Nothing changed. The monitor is an HP 2009m, so it should not need "nomodeset" anyway. Xfree86.cf has not changed from F11 to F12.
I have a full DVD, so I can bring up Rescue Mode. I had hoped to find clues in (/mnt/sysimage)/var/log/messages, but nothing is being written to it. Once after I rebooted off the hard disk from Rescue Mode, I witnessed a long SElinux conversion. That disquiets me. But disabling SElinux does not solve the problem either. Can anyone suggest some kernel options that might overcome this problem? I shrink from reinstalling F11 from scratch and having to restore all my files from my backup system!P.S. I just found in my personal X11 log a message to the effect that /usr/lib64/dvi/nouveau_dri.so is missing. So it is; the directory has 12 drivers and not this one. If I remember right, "nouveau" often figures in trouble reports.P.P.S. As myself in Rescue Mode I can use xinit to bring X up! But it has only a vanilla text window and no mouse cursor, so I cannot use it or get out of it.
i am new to linux. I tried fedora 10 installation on my pc with xp installed already, during copying of packages screen becomes black and white cursor just stuck on it..I have downloaded Fedora 10 i386 DVD image from torrent and burnt it on DVD and right now using the same DVD for installation.i have ATI display driver on xp.Is this problem because of this driver or other ??
I am trying to install Fedora10 on a eeeBox, where I understand the graphic card is highly irregular. After the initial loading (the white/blue ASCII-art bar in the bottom) I get a black screen and that's all.If I Ctrl-Alt-F2 to a text screen and, as advised, do "init 3" and then "Xorg -configure" and restart the server with the new config - the same happens. Just a blank screen..
I cant boot fedora, i have installed windows XP and Fedora 12, i can boot XP, but when i try to boot Fedora, it show me boot screen to choose Fedora and Other, when i click enter on Fedora, nothing happens, just black screen :S I tried with "acpi=off", and it doesn't work :/
yesterday I updated the system, and that involved kernel 2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64. After rebooting, the progress bar goes fine, but when finished the screen flickers a little and goes black. I can't switch to other terminals via Ctrl + Alt + Fx, so I'm using remote access via ssh. I thought it could be nvidia issue, so I updated kmod modules with rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing, and when booting nothing complains, but I'm still getting black screen. Xorg log doesn't seems to complain (no errors (EE)).
downloaded Fedora 15 Live CD and made a booting live CD with it , everything went Okbut after the first screen " automaticlly boot after 10 s " everything just went creepy and the contrast of my screen has become very very low , I was able to see that unity booted but I barely could see the icons without being able to see anything esle , just dark*darkthe same happened with the usb live version .Im having a " Mageia RC " installed in dual-boot with windows 7 and I have the same problem with it . which means, the distro is there but cannot be used cuz the contrast is very very low
I upgraded my machine to F15. I was asked to reboot. From that point on, the system will not boot. I get to the blue screen with the 'egg', about 1/3 of the 'egg' turns white, then the screen goes black. No cursor, nothing.
I hit shift to get the Grub menu, tried booting my old kernel. Same result.
I tried burning a F15 live cd and booting that, but I get a desktop background with no mouse, no docks. It doesn't seem to respond to anything I do. I can boot it in the "basic graphics" mode, or whatever you call it, but I would rather not overwrite my entire hard drive with a fresh install.
I have seen references to some kind of recovery mode provided on the live cd that might repair my install without wiping my data, but I can't find it anywhere.
My hardware: Dual core Atom D525 Intel NM10 chipset
I found a bug, it's due to light the screen, if I start not choose nomodet the screen is very dark, I use the setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 the screen back to normal, but when I restarted, which continued to setpci. How to fix this,
My laptop infomation:
Acer 4937 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 RAM: 2GB Graphic: Mobile Intel 4 Seri 796MB
I have installed Fedora 15 from USB. If i start without nomodeset then screen startup is black!
I should have know, it's named after a windows "feature".On my laptop (Acer Aspire 5310) Fedora 10 offered me an automatic update to Fedora 11. Because I trust any automatic update Fedora brings to me (it's tested right) I automatically pressed yes. It started some downloads and everything seems to run pretty smooth. Then I had to reboot the computer, press that button as well.... and it reboots into Fedora 10 (untill the end of the bar). After that I have no clue what happens, because before X is started I get a black screen with nothing on it, even ESC doesn't do anything :O I don't even get the "_" to indicate the laptop is doing anything.
Ok, I booted with the live cd and used Fdisk to delete all partitions and wipe the drive. I used the "Replace existing Linux system" install option and let it roll. So I reboot to the screen Flashing a _ then just black...System Info:GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor MSI R4850-T2D512 Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video CardSeagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard DriveKingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2K2/2GRYes i did just copy my old newegg orders I'm brand new to fedora as well so I apologize if this a newb mistake.---------- Post added at 05:54 PM CST ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM CST ----------Update: I went and wiped the drive again and tried a different install method (use entire drive)After rebooting i spammed esc and got into grub and loaded fedora in nomodeset After going thro all the lisence and reg stuff it prompted me to log in, I did and once again im left with a black screen with a _
I am not sure what is wrong I am dual booting with windows 7 I have partitioned correctly when I boot from the CD The first screen comes up where it says automatically boots in 10 seconds. when it finishes counting down it pauses and then goes straight to a black screen I also tried to load Ubuntu and the same thing happened. Not sure what to do?
trying to install F13 onto an older HP a1610n, which uses an nvidia 6150LE chipset. While booting from the install media, the screen goes completely black. The machine isn't hung, as from the DVD activity LED, it's still dutifully doing its thing, just not letting me see any of it. I'm thinking/hoping some kernel parameters might help, but I can't seem to find out what they would be.
Tried the DVD install for 10. Install went fine other than it take for freakin ever, but after an 1 hour install, the update wanted to install 1675 or so updates. I let those updates install. 5 hours later the updates were done. Rebooted and now it freezes at a blank screen right after the 3 scrolling bars. System is older AMD 3000+, 1 GIG RAM with NVidia 5700 video card.
I did try and search some. But the only thing I could find was something about editing my grub file for a scan=sync setting (the information was basically gibberish to me. No clue what it was talking about or how I would edit a file on a system that won't boot). I tried to recover mode off the live CD. It had some options that said you could type Linux command line arguments, but whenever it got to the sysimage it says Linux isn't a command.
I made a thread asking if I can install fedora on a compThread:Everyone said yes ( P.S. Im using the LXDE thing that bob said), but when I put the disk in and boot from it.I got a black screen with a bunch of stuff on it and it just repeated every couple of minutes. So, am I stuck on XP? ( had the same problem with ubuntu 8.10, when trying to install).
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 on a Dell Latitude c810 (PIII 1ghz, 256mb ram, GeForce2 GO)
When trying to boot from the Live CD it goes to the first fedora boot screen where it counts down from 10 then tries to boot.
It then says "IO Apic resources could not be allocated" then moves onto a fedora loading bar which completes... but the next screen is completely black, I've tried letting it stay there for 10 or so minutes but nothing happens.
i did a preupgrade from fedora 10, i have a new line in grub with the "preupgrade to fedora 11" ... when i choose this.. anaconda run with the normal blue screen running anaconda... but a blacks screen apper with the mouse... the installation not follow and only the black screen with the mouse i can see...some line add to the kernel line of preupgrade fedora 11 to run with another graphical configuration
Issue: Black screen displays after nVidia splashscreen.
History: I performed a clean install of Fedora 12. I performed NVidia driver "GEForce 4 and below" install for a PAE kernel as found here:[URL]..I kept a log of each command in the order performed:
[Code]...
Well, I just got back from the Pepsi Center after watching the Denver Nuggets NBA basketball team look silly against the Dallas Mavericks. 4.5 hours later and I still have a black screen. Was it Einstein who said, "it is insanity to do the same thing, the same way, over and over and expect a different result"? I feel I will been testing that hypothesis soon.
I currently have a successful dual boot of XP and Fedora 10. I need to re-format my windows partition and re-install XP. When I use the windows CD, it asks to boot from cd. I hit any key and the screen goes black and stays there. XP is the primary OS (C, fedora is the secondary (D. Any thoughts? I still need Windows, because I am just learning Fedora.
I've some problems upgrading to version 10 from version 8. My workstation is certified by RedHat. It's a HP xw6600 with double processor Intel Xeon 5405 2.00 12M/133 QC and graphic card for dual screen Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 PCle. In my OS library I found version 8 to install. It has been installed successfully! However; I've read about advantages for workstation on version 10. Thus, I've downloaded Fedora ISO ver.10 and I've tried to install it in my WS. Here I found a problem: Just in the moment it try to start anaconda, the screen remain black. After three failed intents, I have tried to upgrade my version through the 'yum':
It ran perfectly till anaconda try to run again. Then, I've tried to upgrade to ver.9 from ver.8 and I getting the same problem. I've downloaded the Live CD and that is blocked as well. Of course, I've installed all drivers of my WS before upgrade but I get the same problem. So... How I can fix this problem?... I really need move to version 10. Ah!... I've tried to install beta version 11 but after one hour I get a error messages due at a bug
I have just installed Fedora11 on my machine - the installation failed to start the x server so I had to install with the textbased installer. When the installation completes, I boot up and first I update Fedora with "yum update". Then I install a nvidia driver with "yum install kmod-nvidia". Then I run nvidia-xconfig to make a config file. But when I try to run "X", I just get a blank screen. I can run system-config-display fine, and setup my resolution etc. The log doesnt seem to give me any errors.I have two Geforce Fx3500 card in the machine.
I have installed F12 on the remaining space on my disk and now Windows does not boot anymore. I get to Grub and choose windows and then just get black screen with flashing cursor.
I get past the count down. The bars run across the top. Then my lcd monitor announces it has no signal and goes to sleep. Had this problem with earlier versions of Ubuntu, particularly 8.04. Was fixed in 8.10.
I just installed firefox's flash plugin successfully and I can see it in the About:Plugins and it is enabled. But if I go to ..... to stream a video, I just get a black screen instead of the chosen video.
After installing Fedora 15 from LiveUSB and rebooting it just hangs on a black screen with a blinking cursor (underscore) in the top left of the screen. If it's reached grub, it isn't responding to any commands, and mashing several key combinations (such as ctrl-alt-f1) will produce a beep usually emitted only by the BIOS (hinting that it may never be making its way to grub).
The only particularly interesting thing about the install is that by default it wanted to boot itself from the MBR on my primary-master (Windows) disk. Instead I selected the option to boot from "the first partition in sdb1", which is my primary-slave (Linux) disk, (the first partition being /boot). This way I can change which OS boots by changing the boot order in my BIOS, and so avoiding bootloader wars.
I cannot install FC11 or FC10 on my Dell XPS One/A2420 machine. Every time I tried to install the Linux operating system, the screen goes black and the computer goes no response. It seems to have something to do with the video card--Intel GMA X4500HD Graphics.
