Fedora Installation :: 14 - Perl Not Installed?

Nov 15, 2010

I have a CD with the Fedora 14 ISO burned. It doesn't appear to have perl installed on it. (Open a terminal, type "perl" and press Enter, and get the "Command not found." response.)Further, once I install to the hard drive and boot from it, run the updates and let them complete, and reboot, I still don't seem to have perl and I can't find a package for fc14 that would install perl.I must be the only one having this problem because I don't see any references to this and somebody would have noticed by now, but is there anyone who can tell me what I might have done wrong?

Software :: Ubuntu - Apt Libxml-sax-perl - Unable To Execute Installed Post-installation Script

Jul 16, 2010

I had a problem on ubuntu when running "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and wanted to report how I solved it. Hopefully this helps anybody with similar problems.

I always got the error message:

Code:

The problem is in libxml-sax-perl.postinst which does not seem to be executable.

I did not install any perl packages manually by cpan and found the solution in http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1342009.html where it was only one part of a bigger problem.

I created a backup file (always a good idea) of my libxml-sax-perl.postinst:

Slackware :: Get The DBI Drivers Installed For Perl And MySQL?

Feb 6, 2011

I have spent over half of the day, literally, trying to get my server to parse perl and be able to use perl scripts to interact with my SQL server. Has anyone been able to get it to work? Only looking for answers to Slackware. There are a lot of resources for FC and Ubuntu, but that does me no good. I checked the Slackbuilds for their builds, and built the libdbi and libdbi-drivers package, but still cannot get it to communicate.

Fedora Installation :: How To Install Perl Libraries

Aug 11, 2010

I am a Fedora neophyte, upgrading a web server from Fedoras core 5 to Fedora 13. I finally got Apache and perl up and running, but my Perl scripts don't run because of the lack of Perl libraries.I have been able to use yum install thus far to get what I need which is a terrific tool when it works. I note there is a specific tool named 'cpan', and of course one can download libraries directly from the cpan.org website.Unfortunately, I have tried to download perl libaries from yum the cpan library from yum, and in each case I get:

And it has tried maybe 20 mirrors, alway with the same result. What is the best way you experienced Fedora types have found to download and install perl libraries (like LWP for starters)?

Fedora Installation :: 13 Installation After Fc14 Is Installed Partitioning

Dec 27, 2010

I am trying to install 2 or 3 versions of linux on my hardisk of 500GB capacity. The configuration of my machine is Intel Dual Core, 4 GB Ram, 3.0 Processor Windows XP is not installed on this. I tried to use a tool called GParted but was unable to use as it was not able to bring up the XServer So I booted the machine with fedora14 installation CD and chose "Custom Layout" After reading about the partitions needed by Fedora I created 3 partitions in /dev/sda /dev/sda1 the boot of 500MB formated as ext4 /dev/sda2 the swap of 6096MB formatted as swap /dev/sda3 / size 150GB formatted as ext4

The installation went well and fc14 runs well on this. However when I went to install the other linux version ....the installer was not able to recognize the unallocated space of nearly 350 GB on the hard disk.....So I am not able to create new partitions and then install the new linux on the newer partition. As a result I am unable to make use of the remaining space on the HDisk. I think I should have created /dev/sda4 /dev/sda5 etc when I installed fc14 itself....

Ubuntu :: Switch Back To /usr/bin/perl After Installing Second Perl?

Aug 14, 2010

I recently reinstalled the B module for perl. Now I found out it didn't just do that, it installed a whole new copy of perl into /usr/local/bin/perl. When I type 'which perl' at the terminal, it says '/usr/local/bin/perl' instead of '/usr/bin/perl'. Normally, this wouldn't bother me. But I installed the one in local/bin without threading support. The one that comes with the system already is build with threading support, which is why I want to switch back to the system perl, and possibly remove the one in /usr/local/bin.

So how do I change it so that the result of 'which perl' returns as '/usr/bin/perl'? And what do I have to do to remove /usr/local/bin/perl?

The reason I need threading support is because I'm designing a file copier that copies several chunks of a file simultaneously to speed up the copying process. Guaranteed a useful script if it works.

I see that GRUB is around package # 600 or so in the installation and it does get upto that point.I just need it to finish instead of barfing on packages (no skip option in linux installer how clever!)

No network no Xorg etc. I do have vi but that's about it as far as configuration tools go.

I have previously installed Fedora 6 without any difficulty. I tried installing 6 first but 12 didn't give me any 'upgrade' options, just overwrote with a bare installation.

Fedora Installation :: PAE Kernel Installed By Default Now?

Jun 10, 2009

I've just downloaded F11 i386 installation DVD. I installed it on my laptop and just now noticed that PAE kernel got installed. Isn't PAE for systems with RAM >3.2 GB? It's a pretty old laptop (P3, 256MB ram). So, is PAE kernel ok for me or should I reinstall from scratch and use some specific switches in the installer to get non-PAE kernel? I've also read that Yum doesn't recognize PAE packages dependencies and will install non-PAE kernel modules if I try to install let's say Nvidia driver or so.

After rebooting, I get thrown into grub command prompt, and have no idea what to do there.

No problems during installation (except DVD didn't automatically eject at end).

On booting, I got a bar across the foot of the screen (shades of blue, which then changed to white with Fedora 11 on RHS); then waited ... no change, no keyboard or mouse response.
Repeated the whole installation again - same result.

Then installed Fedora 9 and it booted OK; using Admin/Display showed a default CRT and XGI Volari Z7 video card.

Fedora Installation :: Sata 1 Was NOT Installed With Grub?

Feb 15, 2010

Prefactory note - I've also posted this question on the Ubuntu forum, but so far no solutions have been provided.

My system has several hard drives. The important ones are these:

Sata 1 - Fedora 12
Sata 3 - Windows 7
Slave 1 - Storage

Sata 1 was NOT installed with grub. When I switch OSs, I do it by rebooting and choosing the other drive as primary.

I downloaded an ISO of Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit) and burned the DVD of it. I backed up Slave 1 and then booted off the Ubuntu DVD. I clicked on "Install Ubuntu", selected Slave 1, and installed onto it.

Subsequently I rebooted the machine, going into the BIOS to boot off Sata 1, so I could get my Fedora Firefox settings to replicate them under Ubuntu.

Instead of Fedora 12 booting, Grub 1.97 came up. It had 5 choices, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Repair, Memtest, some other Memtest, and Windows 7.

Subsequently I tried cracking the box and physically disconnecting Slave 1. When I rebooted Sata 1, it crashed to a grub command line. Apparently when Ubuntu installed, it infected Sata 1 with grub, even though it installed the rest of Ubuntu on Slave 1.

I really, really, REALLY need to get access to the Fedora 12 drive. It's got my work on it.

how I can get grub out of Sata 1 and regain access, or maybe reconfigure it so it recognizes the existence of Sata 1? Personally, I don't want it there; that's why I never installed it in the first place.

Installation :: Fedora 13 Installed PAE Kernel But Not Needed / Fix It?

Aug 26, 2011

I'm taking a class this semester on Linux and a Fedora 13 DVD came with the book. Just now I've installed Fedora at home and started the updates. I saw a PAE entry in the updates so I went to the Terminal and typed uname -r and I see that the Fedora 13 DVD installed a PAE kernel on my machine that has only 1 GB of RAM.

Why did it do that?

Can I swap out the PAE kernel for a non-PAE kernel? (edit- I'm a Linux noob so I don't know)

Does it really matter?

After the updates I was going to try to install the proprietary Nvidia driver.
